Wow, Nice job! My SP is arriving. but I don´t know if I buy a MPK 25 or a Novation Remote SL25 Mkii. Th mpk looks beauty in your set up, but works fine with SP? I like the Remotes Display, I think with the template editor I could write the SP parameters on it, so it will be visible... ow doubt. Can you help me? Thank you!
@seanturcofr That should work. Generally line level voltage is 0-5V (+) and integrates with most CV devices. The exceptions are many, but the moog is pretty normal in the CV requirements. Always proceed wih caution...but there is nto too much risk IMHO. Also - you may need to play around with the connection (invert the voltage, or something like that).
Remember - this video SPECIFICALLY fires out volume modulation - that is the CORE! Use of a filter ONLY add complexity to the volume envelope.

Get familiar with the Expert Sleepers plug called Silent Way. It offers way more control, in pretty much the same way as MOTU Volta, but isn't confined to MOTU sound cards alone. Updates are frequent and super stable Buy this and fund these guys. My fav plug hands down.
@rrrahrrrah I know Expert Sleepers. I don't use CV in anyway that a plugin or sound card will add. I merely documented (here) that many units CV expectations are the same as the voltage in line level signal. I learned this trick a while ago and wanted to pass it along as I am an advocate of post-laptop processing and synthesis. Thx for the comment.
mmm.. so in order to get really random results you could just through out random volume sounds into any cv input, right? dunno, maybe connect the tv or something similar...
@mynmyself More or less...BUT - not all CV behaves the same. Moog uses the common protocol from my experience. Then again, I am not a serous authority on the topic, I got lucky.
TV, S&H, etc are all waiting for exploit as CV sources in this situiation.
@djnotsomuch yea yea, i know moog goes 5Volt, my Korg, for example doesnt go the same, which is a shame cause i cant use it with any of my other analog gear...
@tagirov Wanted to rephrase that a little nicer. I stopped using MOTU after a unit I sent back for repair in original box and packaging was returned to me in a different box, poorly packaged, with more damage requiring more repair. Scary bad in every way. Many more stories too!
This is but the tip of the iceberg for me and MOTU. I don't think I can be any nicer, and the feedback I have received on Volta from my trusted sources is very poor.
Question. The triangle wave you are using, is that just a volume envelope in ableton with no actual audio associated with it? Is the audio output of your sound card ever being converted to CV? I am not familiar with ableton at all.
@strawberrybombs All your questions are indeed answered inthe video. I will clarify further...
The triangle is an amp modulation or volume envelope or simple autiomation onthe track volume. What ever makes the most sense. The triange is adjusting the final output volume of a sine wave. A sine wave was used because it was consistent. And allowed the envs to be the mod source in those examples. You could have plugged in an iPod to the CV input and got a similar result.
@strawberrybombs Part 2: Ableton allowed me to launch automation and sync.
The core idea is simple, line level output is pretty much the same output voltage (5v I think) as CV. The change in voltage is tied to the volume. Louder output is more voltage, that is then applied to the filter, pitch, etc.
Ther is NO conversion to "CV" . That was a direct line level output plugged into the Phatty. Simple huh?
Ableton in this example is just generating line output (analog) like an iPod, etc.

@Zemael MPK is best. I would have sold you my SF, I hate the unit. The MPK supports NPRN, that is why I had MPKs.

@djnotsomuch Thank you again, but why do you hate the SP?

Hello.
Can you explain how you create all your clips you launch in this video ?
thank you very much...

Hello ! Nice video.
If I use filtatron ( for iphone and other iOS devices). And if I generate a LFO with the VCO from filtatron.
Can I put it on " Cv Filter In " ?

RTFM = Read The Fucking Manual! Something Most Youtubers refuse to do.

@hustletv I thought YouTube WAS the manual? You mean I gotta read?

And yes, you might know about MOTU Volta plugin, it uses the same idea.

I tried to show how easy CV can be saving big $!

Great stuff :D

Thanx! very nice trick.
I tried in with my TC Electronic Konnetk 24D output and Moog Little Phatty
even unbalanced cable works.
The one thing is to find the proper audio signal to route to "CV" audio jack.
tagirov 1 year ago
@tagirov I had mixed results with non-balanced. You def need to experiment to get good results. Like i said...I was lucky.
I have the 24D also, not to bad, just heavy and hot running.
