That was a mistake made in Walking with Monsters, where Megarachne (renamed Mesothelae in the show) was mistakenly classified as a spider. It was found out that it was a species of eurypterid (sea scorpion). No, there are no fossil records of spiders that big.

Although according to current Paleontological theories, this shows assumptions that modern reptile physiology applies to dinosaurs is a bit far fetched. For one thing, it's been proven that dinosaurs are more closely related to birds and were most likely warm blooded like their modern day decedents.

For animals in the wild an injury could be lethal in the long run, so that mentality should also be taken into account.
