i remember goin to berlin with my cadets and my sergent said to everyone "put ur hands up if your here" (note: this was right outside the reichstag) and when thay noticed the german soldiers just giggling to themselves they quickly put their hands down realising what it looked like <- proof than germans have a sense of humor
what the fuck is the point in germany? it's just a shit country. you guys were the fuckin nazis, so how bout you shut the fuck up and maybe if pete goes on a rampage and kills 6 million jews then get angry. fuckin no sense of humor having boring as fuck waste of fuckin space country.
im german and think its stupid to say that he sang nazi anthem or so, because its NOT a nazi anthem !
and thats a thing too, today nobody sings the first verse....it has NOTHING to do with nazis, so its really dumb to "blame" yourself to be nazis because long time before there where some (and really, not all germans where a nazi, damn) if you let away some verses..!!
No need to be sorry, Pete. Stupid Germans don't know what the first verse means.
Dear old Fallersleben wrote the line in British Exile, yes my fellow German people, Heligoland was part of England by that time.
"Germany above all" does mean to conquer the Globe, it means a united Germany is the goal "above all" goals. Germany was divided into countless princedoms by that time.
I, as a German, don't know why my fellow countrymen are so stupid.
I can't understand why Germans are still, after 70 years, so sensitive about their past. They should have taken this as a joke.
I have talked to many German people and although some of them are open to talk about Hitler and WW2, all of them seem to be reluctant when talking openly about their real line of thinking.
Not to mention that the old hymn was composed 100 years before the nazis seized power!
If Pete would have had an educatet audience, the would not have been angry. Cause the educated germans know, that the verse he sung was written in 1841 and was not a naziverse.
But sadly he had some uneducatet punks, or bums in his audience so they did not get his message of piece and harmony. If a Brit sings the 1st Verse of the Deutschlandlied, that is a hell of a happening =)
cheer up Pete, nothing to appoligize to some stupid fags who can't count to 100...
get over the war we have , dont fuck with pete docherty or we will start another, bring it on on the footie pitch and get fucked if you cant forget. im sure my grandfathers life was riddled with memorys of that war but he never discriminated, wrong place wrong time situation, pete is the sweetest gentlist person alive and is not the type to discriminate, and he didnt sing the nazi anthem it was the proper national anthem , fucking retards, hows pete supposed to know you miss the first bit now

It was written 100 years or so before the nazi party even existed. Peter most likely knew what he was doing, just look at the smile of his face. haha.
they did make it sound worse than it is though, i thought he was going to do a nazi salute or something. peter probably had no idea this had nazi connotations, and was trying to sing the national anthem to inspire national pride... i wouldn't have known either, not too hot on history

Yeah the thing is i think every country wants to be better then other BUT Germany has bean brain F@cked by the EU. Hitler made Germany great, powerful clean. and all dose Wermacht young men died for the Fatherland. And for what? so there children and granchildren can "booo" them. that is sick!!
He knew like... just look at his cheeky grin. You have to remeber people like Pete Doherty are wind up merchants intent on having fun even if he's only entertaining himself and those who can step back and laugh at the uproar as society gets it's knickers in a twist.
Germany didn't JUST use this song for their anthem during the Nazi era.
The Uber Alles Deustchland song was made for German unity in the 19th century, I believe. "Germany above all" doesn't mean conquering the world, it means uniting Germany as a single country. Or something like that.
"no country see this (was genau: DAS?) as a problem"?
I am sorry for this long posting, but i couldn´t be silent in view of this brown belittlementshit.
And, by the way, it would be a much more fantastic world, if an anthem make "great powers" like the war of minnesingers (Sängerkrieg) at the Wartburg.
Empire was (in the 1900´s) much more prosperous. The nazi management was funded by brutal loans, if Hitler didn´t start his war 1939 (it was planed for 1941), the germans would had an national insolvency.
Next: Attila didn´t arrange an burocratic organised industrial mass homicide of more than 10 . 000 . 000 mostly unarmed people.
Napoleon didn´t close hugenotian or royalists stores, sterilize them, ban their weddings, allow just 1 name for newborns andandand
First of all the US-Americans were the "greatest power" in the 1940´s, they beated three nations who invested their whole energy in military potential and kept two "world empires" alive.
If you define "great" by military power, Friedrich the Great was more and enduring sucessful, i.e. the prussians survive a four-front war. If you mean geopolitical compass, the kingdom of Karl V. was much bigger, as well much more enduring. If you accent economic power, the BRD is and the German
I think he did know very well. When you watch his mien by singing the first syllables he´s looking nosy, interested in the feedback of audience.
Sometimes people prefer to evoke a heavy reaction than being sympathic or doing what you expect them to do. So nothing with unintended-failed international understanding.
you are right! i am german and i think the german shouldn't have booed and shout fuck you or something else.. that's our history; and no country sees this as a problem.. just the germans.. i am sad about that fact... all in all i think pete didnt know this and just wanted to be kind ;)
Nice version of "hit the road jack"!! ;-) It was just a joke you know, this was not serious, forget that. i post videos of myself singing and playing guitar, watch it when you've got the time.

All dose Germans are booing, an anthem that made them the greatest power in the 1940's. The french dont boo napoleon and the Hungarians Dont boo Atila the hun. So baisicaly all the german soldiers died for nothing. Im NOT a nazi but come on, germans should be proud.
the moderator said it wrong. the german national hymne is just the 3 vers from an song which has several verses. 60 Years ago the nazis sing all verses and now as respect the hymne is just started with the 3 vers,. Doherty signs the 1 one. I think he doesnt know and just want to entertain the german audience. And "Germany above everything" isnt the correct translate, ok word by word its right but the german words have a little annother meaning in some way :P.

I'm german and I know that it's not.
This song was written 1841, that's before the Nazi's.
Pete, you don't have to apologies!

@MyNegativeCreep
but the nazis declared it as the german national hymn and abolished the second and the third strophe, so it is a nazi anthem!
