  • Sting!!!!!!! what a Awesome Counter... that is why he was The Champ back then..

  • And then he lost it BACK to DDP at the end of the show in a Fatal 4-Way. Man I miss WCW. ONLY kid growing u that liked it more than WWF and ECW. I liked it more even during the second half of 98 all the way till it died in 01.Now I'm watching it every. Thursday Night.

Thumbs up if you watch Thursday Night Nitro too;)

  • I remember seeing this match in Fargo. It was great but what sucked was that the title was given back to DDP just about two hours later.

  • face vs face! What a concept.

  • This was my first birthday wCw FTW !

  • One of my favourite matches

  • Awesome finish

  • i still remember this from the old days!!! god these were the days man, wrestling nowaway is fucking terrible!

  • @luuwat no doubt!

  • I wish matches these days were this intense. That would definitely keep my attention throughout the match.

  • @johndoh4 true!

  • What a match !!!!!!

  • sting should just wear a mask in that color

  • DDP died?

  • @myb7ls nope hes getting stronger :)

  • i love fight club

  • sting looks really creepy at these moments!!!

  • Yet another WCW match that should have been on PPV.

  • There was some top quality talent in WCW back in them days.

  • I remember this one from my childhood. A classic...

  • just listen to that crowd 2:00

  • Sting winning was THE MAIN reason why WCW doesn't exist anymore. Smh They never wanted to take risks pushing new stars. Making new stars. Smh

  • @DemonKnightOhara no doubt, they were headlining all the ppvs with all of the old WWF talen, i mean @ that point did you really enjoy seeing Piper vs Hogan lol they played that card out didnt they, haha

  • That and talk about a match that both guys worked their ass off to please the fans. I remember watching this and seeing that because DDP and Sting put on one hell of a show for them that night!!!

  • This was the greatest match for not just Nitro but in WCW history. Talk about a match everyone got behind!

  • Great match! The crowd was going berserk!

  • I remember this match. A great one it was with Page and Sting. Surprised it was not PPV!

Good ending with no interference but the part was left out where Sting saluted DDP with the Diamond Cutter sign.

  • This was a PPV quality match. One of my favorites of all time.

  • finally a perfect match without an interuption.

  • @smashhitter2 I totally agree. I was just thinking when I clicked to watch this that "WCW almost always had good buildup, even for tv matches, and almost always made the right decisions (pre-Russo), but they know how to mess it all up too." Pleasantly surprised by this clip.

  • Great finish too bad they had to cheapen it by doing an identical finish with these two guys a year later in april...ha wow wcw come on...u think people would forget?

  • one of the best finishes in a match, scorpion death drop a nice finisher.

  • @alvarado669 watch the april 1999 match u will see the same ending

  • 2/21/11 STING!

  • I remember watching this match on WCW back in the 90z and my favorite part of it(that wasn't in this video) was DDP and sting shaking hands in the ring after the match!

    Timothy

    :o)

  • in my opinion, sting's finisher is the worst finisher I've ever seen.

  • @easterndragon9x Well, everyone has opinions.

  • when sting faced ddp for the world title after stampede 99' sting beat ddp with the exact same manuvre from this exact same position. If I'm not making much sense then search on youtube for it and watch for yourself. You'll see what I mean...

  • i remembered my brother and watching this match i had goosebumps then and even its been years pass i had goosebumps while i watched this! When was this broadcast?

  • huuuge pop when Sting got that Scorpion Deathdrop

  • This match was epic.

  • Sting looked so cool as the crow... Pity his long hair didnt stand the test of time...

  • @JollaP1 HIs long hair, yes. His hairline, no. :)

  • I vividly remember watching that match in Palo Alto cali and I so wish they would have showed DDP and sting shaking hands after the match!

    Timothy

    :o)

  • MAN LOOK AT THIS. This is when wrestling was great. Just another reason why the 90's and early 2000's were the BEST. Back when we didn't have shitty music artist and shitty TV shows and we didn't have people on a computer talking shit thinking they're tough. Those great times in wrestling back in the days also bring back great memories from back in the days.

  • Look at that pop when Sting performs the deathdrop. Awesome!

  • Sting will always be the best!

  • I still can't beleive YouTube got nitros on here. I'm likely to watch all the nitros on here! !! I was a big fan back in da day.

  • @topdawgzman

If you REALLY wanna see all the Nitros in high quality all you have to do is go to iOffer and type in "HEATERMANIA" and these people have EVERYTHING. FULL ORIGINAL EPISODES OF NITRO AND RAW FROM ANY YEAR. And they come in professional box art cases.

  • At 8:37 Mike Tenay says Sting doesn't normally go for high-risk moves. Really? Isn't one of his signature moves the "Stinger splash"?

  • @artddp unless ur talking about the stinger splash from the top rope (frog splash) then the normal stinger splash is not a high risk move...

  • @artddp LOL@Mike Tenay's break from reality!

    Timothy

    :o)

  • My favorite WCW match ever. this was at the peak of Pro Wrestling int he 90's.

  • I wish they release full nitros on dvd. Like the best Nitro's. I know it probably will never happen, but Nitro was the best, I used to look forward to Monday Nights.

  • @santanapmutt You can find them on Ebay

  • yes sting is the best am glad he won

he wrestle nice.......jaja for dpp he sucks

  • when wrestling was still sweet

  • good ass match

  • at 8:24 is that a lighter? Why would Sting have a lighter?

  • @iguanabob47 It does appear to be a lighter but I don't think that Sting had it on his person.Back in the day fans were allowed to throw things at the wrestlers and in the ring so it was probably a fan who threw it in the ring.

  • That ending was BOMB

  • mike tenay is only good as the third wheel.

    the fucking plug

  • Great match. One of my favorites. Too bad, typical WCW ruined it by having Sting lose the Title that same very night!

  • @kagesoultaker

He did not lose it on this night. The night you are talking about happened over a year later.

  • @housemusic79 My bad. Got confused because it had the exact same ending! lol

  • were there 3 commentators there? god i miss wcw

  • stinng was scary back then now not at all

  • i remember watching this when i was younger live..dang wrestling was so good back then

  • Dude, Sting came back on the March 8th episode. (I'm talking to you dxcrymtyme2006.) GOD!

  • I must say, the scorpion death drop at the end killed it. I loved the way Sting connected the drop and the crowd went insane. I remember watching this and damn I got goosebumps then and still get the goosebumps now.

Sting is by far the greatest.

  • u hear how loud the wcw fans were? and compare them to wwe fans in the arena...they are not as loud as the wcw fans were cause the wwe has shit matches

  • what a match !

  • That was very strange Nitro. This match was in 1st hour. World Title match by the way. Hogan's match was in 2nd hour. And I don't know why Piper and Savage mainevented the show. Anyway DDP and Sting made it great.

  • @MrGlasspider

One of the many faults that was a contributing factor to WCW's demise.

  • @MrGlasspider it was the first match to counter the final Raw before Wrestlemania 1998

  • Compare Stings face and body then to it now. Age has definately caught up to him

  • u hav to remember hes 50 now, and he doesnt look as good now but damn he is in good condition for a 50 year old, wen im that age i wud be happy to look like sting

  • One of the best Television matches ever!

  • Sting & DDP are awesome!! (WWF for life) my ass it's WWE entertainment now not wrestling, WWE is garbage

  • Perfect Match For A Perfect Crowd, Must Say WCW Played It Right This Night!

  • Yeah, the late 80s and early 90s NWA kicked a lot of ass too. I'm 28 from Myrtle Beach,SC,one of Ric Flair's favorite places to go. I dug the Andersons,Magnum TA, Steamboat, Stinger,PS hayes,Stunning Steve Austin from the old era.

  • damn, ya brought a tear to me eye with those names. Add the Road Warriors and that's heaven.

  • sting is awesome wiv the long hair and the paint!!

  • Sting VS. Undertaker

    DDP VS. HHH

    Rock VS. Booker

    Austin VS. Goldberg

Eric VS. Vince (Hogan is reff)

that should have been the invasion

  • I assume you're going for hard-line WCW vs WWF with this list, and I like it, but I don't know about DDP vs. HHH or Rock vs. Booker. We did get DDP vs. Undertaker, though it was a complete squash, so I would make it DDP vs. Undertaker in a legit match. Maybe Sting vs. HHH? If HBK would've been active, it would've had to have been Sting vs. HBK. I would buy the PPV to see it, and the only PPV I've ever bought was the $13.95 to see ECW Hardcore Heaven in 1998...

  • yeah i have no ida why wwe would ruin what could have been one of undertakers greatest matches, or one of ddps. but u know

  • My DREAM WCW/WWE Invasion PPV

Chris Benoit Vs Chris Jericho (I Quit Match - US Title)

Harlem Heat Vs Dudley Boyz Vs Edge & Christian Vs Hardy Boys (TLC Match - Unified Tag Team Titles)

Buff Bagwell Vs Randy Orton (Unified Television/Intercontinental Title)

Raven Vs Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack) (Falls Count Anywhere - Hardcore Title)

Billy Kidman Vs X Pac (Unified Cruiserweight/Lightweight Title)

  • Main Events:

Sting Vs Taker (WWE Heavyweight Title)

Goldberg Vs Austin (World Heavyweight Title) DDP Vs The Rock (Who's The REAL Peoples Champ?)

(Team NWO) Nash/Hall (Outsiders) Vs (Team DX) Shawn Michaels/HHH

Eric Bishoff Vs Vince MacMahon (w/ Special Guest Ref Hollywood Hogan - Winner Owns WWE)

  • @justfarr1030 Now thats a PPV card that i would have loved to have seen, good picks.

  • only thing i'd change of that would make the tag match a fatal fourway. gotta have the Road Warriors and the Horsmen in it.

  • Your so wrong, I have a better soultion to a WWF VS WCW STARS;

    Goldberg vs Stone (ur right)

Undertaker vs Kevin Nash (the fyt for the powerbombers)

The Rock vs Booker T( the fyt for the rock bottom/Bookend)

Vince MacMahon vs Ted Turner( winner owens it all

  • @justfarr1030 Outsiders>DX

  • hell yeah

  • Funny thing is they had a match again the following year and it was almost exactly like this one. The ending was IDENTICAL.

  • Better than anything Vince can shit out on TV. God i miss wrestling when it was like this. WcW sucked with their money but they made WWE work harder to better their product. Now it's all just horseshit. I hate Vince and i Hate the WWE. WcW for life! 1996-99 best wrestling ever!

  • i agree but i say from 89 to 99 im 27 how old are you..??? texas ,,..south

  • and not to forget, WWF for life too!!

  • DDP represent the people, but The Rock represent what the people wants!!

  • WCW Legends, no doubt!

  • without a doubt one of the best matches of all time,

    Long live Sting & DDP!!!

    The ending was awesome!!!!!

  • ddp was the stone cold of wcw

  • Fuck me that match was amazing, my two favourite WCW wrestlers of all time. I've never seen two guys go as all out as they did in WCW, especially on Nitro. I must now go play WCW/NWO Revenge this match has reinspired me.

  • no doubt a great match. they hafd an even better one when ddp was a heel. i'm thinking in 99. they wrestled once and sting won he title from him, then they had another match tht smae night and ddp won it back. 2 great matches.

  • the ref dropped his lighter (8:25) pot head

  • o christ i remeber larry zbysko going on about the game of chess all the time!lol!

  • Zbyszko was a total twat,he used to get up every Nitro stroll over to the crowd and do that stupid wave.

Eventually hardly anyone acknowledged him and Mike Tenay would sit there laughing at the idiot.

''The game of chess'' remark was another of his stupid Nitro traditions.

  • clearly the crowd wanted sting to win!

  • I wonder why there was a lighter in the ring at the 8:25 mark.

  • People were always gonna talk shit, and i'm sure this was no exception...

But this was a hell of a match, hate em or love them, this was well worth the watch.

  • Note how DDP is always dragged up after getting beaten. First by Goldberg and now by Sting.

  • It doesn't matter, he's still one of the GREATEST wrestlers/gimmicks of all time. And he's beaten both Goldberg & Sting. So in the end it doesn't matter.

  • Yes, that's right. In fact, I believe, dragging him up can be considered as a token of respect towards DDP.

  • Yeah it isn't shown here, but Sting also made the Diamond Cutter sign several times and then he and DDP hugged at the end.

  • DAMN YO! i actually remember watching this in real time...sting had won the title earlier in the show

  • No that was in 99'. I know what match your talking about though. This is right after Sting beat Hogan for the title.

  • I remember this match... it was like the second or 3rd match on Nitro... they were put against each other cause it was also the final Raw before Wrestle Mania and yet Nitro STILLL Beat it!

  • Is anyone honestly mad that after like 10 years Vince Mcmahon hasn't done anything with the WCW brand I mean if they make one more WWE 2006,2007, or anyother crappy game and not a WCW remake for the Next Gen I will be really ticked off Is it that hard to just give these Wrestlers and Great Company a little Respect I mean 1 little game so I can relive my glory days of coming home after school and watching this those Monday Nights made me really belive this was real pls give feed back good or bad

  • that was deep

  • One of the greatest matches I ever saw on Nitro.

  • Great ending

  • good match

  • Fun match... DDP gets overshadowed as a worker... I heard that he had to painstakingly organisation his matches before hand to get them just right, but frankly they paid off as they were entertaining. I still believe he gave Goldberg his greatest match of all time.

  • great finishing !

  • is that mike tenay at the announce table??

  • Yh he was in WCW before TNA :)

  • yes; ]

  • You dont see crowd get behind wrestlers like this no more!...John Cena wish he could get a reaction out of the fans like this!

  • WCW better than WWF

  • great ending!

  • Ummm The Rock was the peoples champ way after DDP was being called that in WCW. Its because Page represented the people. The way he came up in the business without knowing anyone and busted his ass to get everything. He was the new Dusty Rhodes in that way. And the rock would brag about his expensive shirts....and he was the peoples champ?

By the way DDP was the peoples champ even before The Rock came into WWF. Check ur history.

  • Spot on mate.

  • Awesome Match, one of the great ones!

  • lol, I like the way, this ref counts

  • i think sting is going 2 be the only man in history 2 be inducted into the wwe hall of fame who never competed for the wwe

  • doubt it why would sting want to be in sumthin created by vince mcmahon he dont wanna work for vince why would he want hall of fame i think they should make the pro wrestling hall of fame a big deal and put it 2 hours once a year on tv pay per view big names of wrestling

  • Man I miss good WCW. It's sad to think things will have unraveled for them by this time the following year. Fun match though.

  • terrific match for wcw back then! wwf was catching on fast and this was a great moment for them... too bad it didn't last.

    mr kennedy rules!

  • yeah why the fuck would they release kennedy? blame it on orton and vince.

  • yeah two of the best ever

  • Two of my favorites at the time going at it. Just watching this explains how professional these guys were. The challenger losing to the champ straight up, but also understanding the entertainment value of it. When Sting when for that death drop the crowd went nuts. Great Match.

  • did u watch the interview when ddp was talking about how him and sting were trying to make the match last longer? lol priceless

  • I didn't see that? Can it be found on Youtube?

  • i found it on youtube but i cant find it anymore :(

  • Great Match!

  • Sting Is An Legend. He Won The NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Twice. He Won The WCW World Heavyweight Championship, 6 Times & He Won The TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Twice. Sting Never Won The WWE Championship, The World Heavyweight Championship & The ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Sting Never Been In The WWE. Everybody Wants An Dream Match, They Want to See Sting Against The Undertaker. That Will Be Great. -Vercilla Burton's Brother, Kedrick

  • well when you consider it, he has won the World Heavyweight Championship since it's the WCW world title belt.

  • Sting said in an interview that he has no interest in going to WWE.

  • Oh i know. I was just making the comment about the WWE's world hvwt championship belt. It's the WCW title belt so he's held it lol.

  • That WCW/world heavyweight title is so shiney! lol

Well it does look real nice

  • World Heavyweight Championship is NOT the WCW championship... different lineage. Only relationship is the belt.. inwhich now the world heavyweight has the WWE logo on it.

  • They brought Bischoff back but they were not going to give him tv time, so hes like fuck this! so thats when Vince bought wcw

  • have to play the game

  • so rare to see a full top card match on nitro... let alone in all of wcw. these guys always put on a good show together. 5 stars.

  • Very enjoyable, this may have been the only good match from Sting's title run during this period

  • what the hell is Duane "Dog" Chapman doin' there ;-)

  • 2 of the best wrestlers in an amazing match

  • DDP looks a lot like Randy "the ram" Johnsson =P

  • uhh, the only Randy Johnson i know throws 105 MPH, and has about 8 inches on DDP. and Randy Robinson, no, looks nothing like DDP. dumbass

  • Have you ever heard of a movie called "The Wrestler" ?? you know, the one that got Mickey Rourke an oscar nomination you fucking asshole.

You should get out of your mothers basement more often

  • Comment removed

  • you know what I meant jackass stop being an ass and stop spamming this video

  • you woulda though he had known to reference actual wrestling b4 hopping to baseball lmao

  • SOMETIMES nitro had that smoke flled barroom look.I miss Nitro,if only WCW could have gotten its act together

  • Vince Russo came in and brought the ratings back up from what they were in under Bischoff. Russo NO DOUBT would have saved WCW but for 2 things. Standards and practices forcing Russo to not be able to do anything he wanted so he had to book only comedy and lame shit. And the stupid merge between AOl and Time Warner. Other wise I'm sure WCW would be around to this day.

  • Things got worse under Russo, storylines et all, so I have no idea what you're talking about. They actually had to bring Bischoff back to try and right the ship.

  • WOWW!! WCW BEST EVER!!!

  • STING is clearly the greatest!!!!!!!!

  • The announcers always annoyed the crap out of me.. especially Tony Schivonne
