I almost had a heart attack when you pulled out that 30 round mag. I'm from CA too and I worked for the DA's office breafly in a very anti-gun area. I know it's legal...you know it's legal...but who's to say that some overzealous or uninformed public servant won't try to prove otherwise. I like your videos and wouldn't want for you to get disappeared.
Pisses me off that gun manufacturers have to waste resources producing guns just to satisfy California bureaucrats. We are all paying higher prices because of it, whether we live in CA or not.
Keltec has a problem with screws coming loose. A screw came loose on my PF9 with less that 200rds through it and the entire gun came apart while I was shooting it.
Most users would be MUCH better of going with the M&P 15 Sport.
@HappyBruiser I'm sorry that the stupidity here in CA is causing you trouble, but we're on the same team here. This is the front line of battleground to keep our 2nd amendment rights. It's the proving ground for gun laws. We've basically been abandoned by the gun community and it's going to bite all gun owners in the end. Please support the people in CA who are staying and fighting the good fight.
How do you like the KelTec vs your M&P sport? Are 30 round mags legal in CA with the Kel Tec? I am in CA as well and am looking in the price range of these two rifles... Thanks for the video
@fordfanatic325 There is no doubt that the M&P is a better rifle, but the KelTec has been 100% solid for me. If you own 30-rounders LEGALLY, they can be used in the SU16CA without issue.
The recess in the stock will also hold a standard 30rd AR magazine instead of the two Kel-tec 10 rounders. That's what I keep in mine when it's in my B.O.B..
I have no idea why anyone would stay in the Soviet State of Kalifornia. Why do you stay? MOVE to Nevada and you can be free of this kind of stupidity.
@zehnsechz Makes it easy to stowe behind a car seat or, as I use mine, in a Bug Out Bag. The Su-16C (as opposed to the CA reviewed here) has a different folding stock that both folds for minimum overall length like the A, B &CA versions as well as folds behind the pistol grip in such a way as to allow the rifle to still be fired. The CA is my preferred version.
could you take that to another state where you are taking a course and while in that state reinstall the california evil features? the schools need to have locker space for things like hicap magazines for the classes perhaps?
great vid- thanks alot- i had the same FTF/Ejection probs on mine. after a while i just got frustrated and put it away.
thinking it was the ejector or mags, I contatcted the AWESOME ppl at Ke-Tec, told them about the prob and they sent me replacement parts at NO charge.
I don't know these rifles too well, they look awesome though. I remember thinking that most of these models have a built in bipod feature, is that true?
@MonsterHorrorBoy Yes, the rifle forend swings down to form a bipod. Using it may alter your point of impact though because it shifts the weight of the rifle out towards the end of the barrel. The POI on mine shifts up almost 2" at 100yds when using the forend bipod.
@fastacker2 technically any law is a violation. "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" . 2nd was created so the people can keep government in check but now they have bigger and badder weapons than we can have . Even a militia cant have what they have and I hate when people think a well regulated militia is what the military is.
Wow, I'd love it if I was allowed ten round mags for my Remington 7600. It's clips of four or five years in the slammer here in the Great White North.
With other SU-16 models a 30 round mag can be stored in place of the two 10 rounders. Mabey you already know that, but if not that would be an option. I have my eye in the new KSG. Looks pretty sweet!! Keep the vids coming.
@e1ghtys1x You cannot buy anything new magazine with over 10 round capacity ... PERIOD. If you had +10 mags legally prior to the ban, you can use them, repair them, etc. ... assuming your rifle does not have "evil features". The flowchart is your friend in this regard.
great review...i have been thinking of getting one for a while now. wish the pistol grip stock was available as a model instead of an after market option. etiher way i am impressed and loved your overview.
@ZombieTactics Wow! I love that, and the fact that you can keep it as a trunk gun is pretty nice as well. I really like my AR's accuracy, but that sucker is 11 lbs. and there are many situations when I'd like to have a lighter rig. It may just be time to look more seriously at one of these.. They come up at Calguns all the time.. I've seen them for $350 several time recently. As far as the long term durability of the polymer.. I wouldn't sweat that too much personally.
@noBuzzkillin I'm sure there are cases of the buttstocks cracking if exposed to extreme temps, but I would doubt its a common issue.. Great info about the 'tactical' class you took too. I'd be interested in knowing more about the details of that.. I've been looking for some 2 gun tactics training in this area, but no love.
Fantastic overview ZT. It seems that as more time passes, the rumors of "plastic unreliability" are being replaced with the truth of "lightweight, fun and reliable." Folks still say "we shall see over time", but as more time passes, trust is being built-up. I have the 'A', 'B', and 'C' models, and just loved your story of consistantly putting rounds downrange as more expensive and venerable platforms malfunctioned. Ah, to have caught that on vid...
@FrikinTastik Actually I do have some fairly "epic" footage of one such incident. It happened in the middle of a bounding drill, and resulted in the owner having to bow out completely after attempting every possible "beat it to death" method for bringing it back into service. Again, I don't claim this is typical, but these events happened, and probably would not have done so if we weren't pushing man and machine pretty hard.
@ZombieTactics That would be really cool if you could get yourself a survival kit to fill that space. Just imagine- A bag, some ammo, that gun, a canteen, a shelter, and some food- you could be rockin it in the woods for days!
Pink or yellow grade teflon tape will have the heat rating to be able to be used on those for threads. It would leave no residue or melt under those condition, not white teflon tape though.
A bullet button is a deal breaker for me. I also found my pre-ban AR mags I bought in the 90's. I saw an SU-16 w rail forestock and cheapo red dot for $599 at a gun show last year. Now they're going for over $600. I'm kicking myself now...
strongly considering this rifle... ZT would you recommend i get it or should i just save up a little more and buy an ar platform im not on a super tight budget but im not looking to buy the most expensive tacticool thing out there just want something that works.
@angelsfan26 If you live in a "free state", I think an inexpensive AR15 (the S&W M&P models come to mind) would be the better choice. If you live in CA or someplace similarly disposed regarding rifles ... then it comes down to how much BS you are willing to put up with in terms of modifying your AR. The KelTec is a really good option at a good price, but ultimately will not have the long-term reliability or felxibility of an AR.
@ZombieTactics I live in CA and own one of these fine rifles aswell. I have a video of us shooting one check it. What kinda charging handle do you have and where did you get that? I have the stock on and I dont like it. Thanks and keep up the great videos

@Donatellangelo No, you can pretty much "blaze away" as fast as you can pull the trigger. My understanding is that the thinner-barreled models might have an issue, but not the CA.
I've almost bought the "Charlie" or C model twice before, but have opted for other carbines instead...I see myself getting on in the future. I like the lightweight and fold-able option. Thanks for the video!
I've have this itch for a big bro for my .22 AR that I wish I could afford to scratch haha. Been ignoring the idea because of the "bullet button" because it's so freakin' ridiculous.
