Mabou Louise is Haitian for any one who assumed she was from Africa. I love my Haitian we as a group of Blacks are extremely intelligent but we are recognized as that because media has portrayed only the negative side of Haiti.
it is not uncommon throughout the world for children to speak multiple languages... but out of necessity. in south africa, most of the black children end up speaking between 5 and 8 languages, just because those are the languages of the friends and families. i think it's interesting that it's brought up that she spends 7 hours a day in instruction, since that's what school is. 7 hours of instruction. and yet, why aren't all kids in school that smart?

This would be impressive if it weren't for the fact that she only knows these things because she's been trained from a very young age... Anyone can do just as well if they start that young, are pushed by their parents, and have private tutors helping them many times a week. What would REALLY be impressive is if she did something that she motivated herself to do or learned something after the "easy" learning stage (when she's 20 or older,) or did it without private tutors.

Modern official assesments of reasoning skills are based on pure ability to locate patterns in figures. These are designed not to require real knowledge of any sort. The tests that you are criticising can therefore not be real IQ tests - maybe some of the many fake tests scattered around the internet?

The test that I used to qualify for Mensa (The California Test of Mental Maturity) included vocabulary. Any test that includes vocabulary has a bias toward a particular education. You can't know a word that you haven't seen. Even if you figure it out from the root you are disadvantaged on a timed test when compared to those who know the word.

Not everyone who is bright, however, will be able to show it on the test. That is the definition of a culturally biased test.

However, when logical reasoning skills (which are all that really matters for Mensa applicants), are measured, no use of lingual, cultural or taught references need to be used at all. These tests are certainly based on acquired knowledge, including that of language, and are therefore culturally biased.

@MoreDanePlease I dare you to find an accepted IQ test that is in no way dependent on previously acquired knowledge. Even tests that omit vocabulary and focus on logic have an advantage for those who already have pertinent knowledge or previous understanding. For example, you will have a much easier time recognizing a pattern with prime numbers if you have familiarity with that concept. On a timed test, that familiarity makes a major difference. When egos are dropped, this will be obvious.

If you had done research on these before "daring" me you would have found them to be purposefully devoid of such potential issues as numbers, words, colors and the like. Even if those tests were completely independent of prior experience they wouldn't be very relevant to our discussion because they do not account for the bulk of IQ assessment. Also, despite your assertion that these test are unbiased, it's simply not true. I was an engineering major. While in school I took a test similar to Raven's Progressive Matrices (it may have been). I scored higher on it than on the CTMM.

A test like this could be "more fair" for groups who have a cultural experience that differs from the expected. Still, I realize that my adeptness with matrices was, in part, due to my interest in and experience with engineering. (These are certainly a part of IQ but they don't represent a well-rounded definition of IQ.) However, I do not think I would subject a 5 year old to this kind of intense instruction. A few hours a day is fine, but 7 hours seems to be excessive to me.
I don't believe this girl is fluent in all of these languages, and the reality is that if you don't regularly speak a language you won't remember it. Learning a foreign language as an English speaker in a country like America, where English is very dominant, is very difficult as you really don't have an opportunity to use the languages.

This girl is a genius and a smart one. In the other clip "Mabou Loiseau on Russian TV," her mother said that at about 1 1/2 years old, she heard this little girl using french words that she never taught her! She told her mother that she had picked them up by herself from watching french cartoons. This girl's vocabulary was not one of a normal 1 1/2 year old. She knew right away that she had a genius, a possible polyglot and had to start her education immediately. Let's not be racist!

This would be impressive if it weren't for the fact that she only knows these things because she's been trained from a very young age... Anyone can do just as well if they start that young, are pushed by their parents, and have private tutors helping them many times a week. What would REALLY be impressive is if she did something that she motivated herself to do or learned something after the "easy" learning stage (when she's 20 or older,) or did it without private tutors.

Modern official assesments of reasoning skills are based on pure ability to locate patterns in figures. These are designed not to require real knowledge of any sort. The tests that you are criticising can therefore not be real IQ tests - maybe some of the many fake tests scattered around the internet?

The test that I used to qualify for Mensa (The California Test of Mental Maturity) included vocabulary. Any test that includes vocabulary has a bias toward a particular education. You can't know a word that you haven't seen. Even if you figure it out from the root you are disadvantaged on a timed test when compared to those who know the word.

Anyone who has not received an adequate level of that education will be at a disadvantage on this popular IQ test. If you score well, you are certainly bright. Not everyone who is bright, however, will be able to show it on the test. That is the definition of a culturally biased test.

@TruthTuber I must repeat my point: The CTMM is not an actual IQ test (their website even states this). I fully agree that it is biased towards certain groups. However, when logical reasoning skills (which are all that really matters for Mensa applicants), are measured, no use of lingual, cultural or taught references need to be used at all. Such is the definition of logically based deductive skills; they are not based on aquired knowledge. I would recommend anyone to take logical tests instead.

Fact is, however, that one can take real IQ tests, not aptitude/academic tests such as CTMM/SAT et cetera, in order to get an unbiased result. @MoreDanePlease I dare you to find an accepted IQ test that is in no way dependent on previously acquired knowledge. Even tests that omit vocabulary and focus on logic have an advantage for those who already have pertinent knowledge or previous understanding. For example, you will have a much easier time recognizing a pattern with prime numbers if you have familiarity with that concept. On a timed test, that familiarity makes a major difference. When egos are dropped, this will be obvious.

Even if those tests were completely independent of prior experience they wouldn't be very relevant to our discussion because they do not account for the bulk of IQ assessment. Also, despite your assertion that these test are unbiased, it's simply not true. I was an engineering major. While in school I took a test similar to Raven's Progressive Matrices (it may have been). I scored higher on it than on the CTMM.

A test like this could be "more fair" for groups who have a cultural experience that differs from the expected. Still, I realize that my adeptness with matrices was, in part, due to my interest in and experience with engineering. Again, the test was timed and I didn't have to spend any time understanding what was expected. I'd been dealing with some form of matrices since I was in high school.

@MoreDanePlease We are in agreement that RPM is preferable to the more common tests used if the goal is to test areas such as visual information processing, perceptual processing and whole-to-part relationships. (These are certainly a part of IQ but they don't represent a well-rounded definition of IQ.) Do you concede that these test are not the most common test used in westernized countries (and rarely in the US)? BTW - my dare was not meant to offend, and I feel that it's still unsatisfied.

However, I do not think I would subject a 5 year old to this kind of intense instruction. A few hours a day is fine, but 7 hours seems to be excessive to me.

I don't believe this girl is fluent in all of these languages, and the reality is that if you don't regularly speak a language you won't remember it. Learning a foreign language as an English speaker in a country like America, where English is very dominant, is very difficult as you really don't have an opportunity to use the languages.

It bothers me that people are calling her a genius. She's not a genius. She has had training from a very young age and has a family that can afford to give her private tutors unlike most families. Intelligence should be based on what an individual achieves on his own, not based on how much education his family can afford or the age at which he starts. I personally find the idea of blacks being less bright on avg appalling, but reasonable, and testable. Also correctable to some degree.

@orewojamasuruna I never thought ignorance and jalousy could bring an adult down so low. How can anyone in her/his right mind be cursing a child, a genius princess, an innocent child? Calling her a "Chimp" or a "monkey" only shows your unwillingness to learn and to make peace with yourself. Whatever had taken place in your life, this angel is not responsible for it. I don't know how much more English a 5-year-old should speak but I think she is wonderful. She speaks 7 languages and plays different instruments and does Ballet. Hands up to these smart parents, don't mind the jalous ones, keep up the good work. She is a real genius!

Are you guys retarded? She's not speaking any language except English (and poorly at that). Just because I can say 'hello' and tell someone how I am in Russian doesn't mean I can speak the language.
How about we get video of this "linguist" having conversations in her languages before we start calling her a genius?

@kcor4 Don't be jalous, negative thinking hurts. Don't hate her for being smart, just go to school, get your high school diploma and find yourself a good college. Take 30 credits a semester and soon, you'll be doing the things this princess is doing but most of all, they will clean your filthy mouth for you.

This is retarded. Simply because you can say say 'hello' and tell me how you are in Russian does not mean that you speak Russian.
Show me some videos of this girl having unscripted conversations in these languages and then I'll become a believer.
"I know so MUCH things about my languages." How about you try and learn to speak English first? If you can't tell the difference between 'much' and 'many' then I seriously doubt she has a grasp on the complexities of the Russian case system.
