  • Didn't this sweetheart Delta Queen boat come to Pittsburgh PA for the Regatta? I am sure she did. Are you kidding me they are shutting this down? I may be a Northern Yankee but I will be damned if such a fine Southern Bell goes down this wrong path of not being needed. May the South rise up and help the Delta Queen take her rightful place again!

  • It is sad how much of this song came to pass. Soon she will have an owner who cares about her and will be able to present at congress why she is and has been safe for 84 continuous years and sail again.

  • keep hopin' boys, the queen goin rise again one day

  • 0:24 what boat was that in the foreground?

  • The M/V Twilight, built by Capt. Dennis Trone as the "sister" boat to the Str. Julia Belle Swain. She is prop driven but has the looks and lines of a small Mississippi River packet steamer.

  • We'd get so excited when the Delta Queen was going by (Lawrenceburg, IN). Mom would take us down to the river to watch. One time it docked in Aurora, IN and my little brother and I got to meet Grandpa Walton and get his autograph. He just say down on the grass and relaxed and he became surrounded by kids.

    I'll miss the Delta Queen.

  • At least I know she will be in good hands in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She's gonna be a floating hotel, but she will be safer there than in New Orleans. Return here to operation, and shut Oberstar Up.

  • I'll be happy when Oberstar is in a nursing home and the Queen returns to the rivers.

  • @baritonebynight Heh heh heh..Oberstar is out of office now...the Queen will run again!

  • As the ol' girl headed home for the last time, a big important part of my life sailed away with her. I will miss her :(

  • I was on her last voyage, It was a sad day for all to get off the Legendary Delta Queen--Caperspice

  • @caperspice4213 I decked for John Dugger in 2008 in Memphis just before the decision was made to lay up the boats.Wish I could have made that last run with the boat. She was the first fuel job I did after becoming a licensed tankerman in 1995 in Memphis and the first fuel job I did when I started working for a boat store in Paducah Ky in 1998.

  • Election Day (4th) I will be saying my final goodbye to the the majestic Queen. It's really sad she couldn't be saved, but maybe it's time to let the old girl rest.

The American Queen will also be making her last trip up the river this week.

  • She will be back and we will save her....Oberstar is the one who needs to rest...in a rest home that is!

  • Great song for a great boat! Save the Delta Queen!

  • Can our congressmen and women ever do anything the people want??? The Coast Guard says the Delta Queen is safe........it's safer than your own home. Don't put the crew out of work. Don't hurt the businesses along the river. Don't take the thrill away from the folks on and along the river.

    Save the Delta Queen!!!!

  • Get out there and write your congressman/ woman Tell them to keep her floating and entertaining the people of the river families who love her.

  • I agree, she's a piece of history and she should seen by us AND the future generations for as long as she can float. They scrapped the Olympic, they scrapped the Aquatania, they scrapped just about every piece of glorious maritime history that we had. DON'T LET THEM TAKE THE DELTA QUEEN TOO! >:O

  • I agree. I love the White Star and Cunard steam ships and the famous Boblo Island boats. I know and have faith something will be done. If people are so concerned about overnight travel because of a fire why don't the company who owns the Delta Queen keep the workers and change non union to union, and travel to day time travel only.

  • Yeah, I HATE seeing historic ships like being retired because of stuff like that. I'm glad that we ('we' as in Michigan) have kept a historic river boat. The Detroit Princess is our paddle steamer and she's gorgous. But yeah, the Delta Queen should do day sails, the Detroit Princess does that. :l

  • Thanks Jon for a great song but it is very hard to listen to because it just may come true. Too sad to think that the Delta Queen will no longer run.

  • It was even harder to write. In the end, I couldn't perform it because I just couldn't do justice to her on piano. Fortunately, Lee was kind enough to record it for me. In his able hands the song comes alive. He has a knack for capturing the essence of what she really means to all of us river folks.

  • Then how could you do it on the DQ's calliope?
