Keep in mind that the V-Piano has no polyphony limit(you can have a maximum of 264 virtual strings playing at the same time) simply because it recreates the piano sound using modeling as opposed to the Kronos that uses piano samples.
@mr4y But in saying that with 8 samples per key equaling to over 4gb of sample data not to mention all the different ways to tweak the sound of the kronos. Mix it right and it'll sound like the real deal.
@prototypep4 It won't. If you want a more close version of what Korg were supposed to do to make a realistic piano sound, check out Modartt's Pianoteq. Like the V-Piano, it doesn't use any samples, only physical modeling. Sampled pianos, won't sound like the real thing, no matter how big the samples are.
I don't really think this is a good comparison; they are keyboards for different purposes. The V-piano is a digital piano, while the Kronos is a workstation. I must say though, the V-piano has amazing piano sounds. After playing both though, I think I would prefer the Kronos. One: it is an all-around keyboard, and two: it is cheaper. :D
BOTH ARE GOOD PIANOS BUT I PREFER KRONOS OBVIOUSLY!... I HAVE A QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE SONGS THAT YOU PLAYED IN THE KRONOS AND IN THE ROLAND? THANK YOU VERY MUCH! GOOD LUCK!
I am interested in either the S90XS or Yamaha CP5. I remember you had a video where you tested them both. What was your opinion regarding both models? Which would you recommend?
For us, pianists, it´s a HELL. We can´t purchase a real Steinway to our rooms, and for recording. These electronic pianos make us play bad. Look at this man, how terrible it sounds like ! Sounds like a toy piano.
Kronos would be amazing if it don't have too much bugs. It's too much like a PC for my tastes. When I play "videogames" I don't like to have issues, thats why I play on console rather then on a PC. When I create music, I don't like to have issues, that's why I won't by a Kronos. "Almost" well done Korg, maybe next time or with a huge system update.
This video sucks in so many ways ill start pointing this.
1rst if u wanna compare 2 pianos get them playing inthe same setup (speakers). and with semiliar pianos . not a bright piano and a dark piano. My Rd 300 Nx sound much better then the Krono (tested)and its a (bit) away from the V-Piano. this is like comparing a ferrari vs chevy the V Piano is miles
I just got myself a kronos 88 yesterday. It really sounds amazing, but there seems to be a problem with the velocity of the pianos. when I play really softly sometimes the note cuts off like if I just played a staccato and seriously that is pretty anoying. I was wondering if there were parameters in the kronos where I can adjust that or if its just mine who has that problem. Can someone help me?
@AUP68 its true, i dont know whats wrong with KORG becayse OASYS was the perfect keyboard and there wasnt even a complain about the RH3 AND VELOCITY..then m3 was made and just a minority had the issue with the rh3...now kronos which suppose to "kind of" replace the oasys..comes with those issues. saddens me because have to defend the good product that it is to others but in the same timeneed to agree that when they compare a diferent brand there is no such issues like roland and yamaha:(
I used to be on the keyboard merry-go-round. I've been looking to buy a new board for 5 years. NOTHING impressed me enough to move away from my Yamaha S-90 es.......not that the S-90 was everything I wanted, but it did do a lot of things acceptably. BUT THAT ALL CHANGES WITH KRONOS. There is no board out there with German and Jap acoustics that compare with Kronos. Rhodes is pretty damn realistic to the real thing. Adequate B-3 simulation. there's azillion other patches that are useable.
The Kronos RAPES all other keyboards and I"m not even a korg fan. I know it's good. I"ve never heard a more realistic piano sound that's not some $1500 VST plugin.
This video make no sense... as first you can't compare two sounds with different speakers, then you can't compare two sounds if one is played on a weighted keyboard and the other on a synth action keyboard and last... what kind of quality can you get listening from a camera microphone? If you try the Kronos piano at your nearest dealer using at least a 73 weighted keys version you'll be amazed... and piano is only a very little part of what a Kronos can do.
@Roetgen1972 Have both....Like the Electro...Just bought the Kronos...sold the Oasys last year on Ebay...the Nords are good for 3 instruments for live performance...Piano, Organ(hammond emulations) and Rhodes for sure....
nothing can win against KRONOS it has 9 engines.....the fukcin BBQ Toland V Piano has only 1 and its fuckin over ratedly expensive..dont waste your fukin money on that shit
To all you guys talking about plastic sounds on the Kronos and acting like you have invented the piano: do you by any chance understand the difference between a dedicated piano emulator for $6000 list price and a general purpose $3000 workstation? Please, take your fan boyish talk where it belongs...into the kindergarten.
@petara45 Man dont get into to the back and forth about which one is "best"... At a show the crowd doesnt care if you have a 50 gig Rhodes or a X50....they want to be entertained. I use to be in a race with my self and bought the newest gear on the market and just got to the point that its not necessary all the time. Buy what will make money to pay for itself....Just bought a Kronos to replace the Oasys..all to say, dont sweat these folks, buy what makes YOU!!
@feewert42 lol, the korg sounded a little thin and plasticky because of its thin filters whereas the roland has thicker filter which made it sound thick but i give the edge on kronos because their sampled piano is just amazing.Give kronos a try and you'll find yourself sitting in denial, i mean its really different once you get to play that beast. Im a roland guy and been playing the rd and v-piano but this beast blows them all out of the water.
Well obviously KORG has a 88 Key version so how is that even a relevant argument? This may just be my opinion as a music producer of 10 years but NOTHING out right now even comes close to comparing to the artistry that is the Korg Kronos. I haven't heard anything that can match that sort of realism. Kronos is the ultimate HD 3D sonic experience.
I owned a V-Piano (2 months) and the Kronos still sounds better. No comparison. The V-Piano does not have a real piano sound in it to save its life. All default piano sounds in the VP are terrible and not usable. Built like a tank. Save your money and get Pianoteq if you want that sound.
@xXHwyStarXx My thoughts exactly. In my opinion when it comes to hardware noting out right now can match that sort of stark realism. For my money it doesn't get any better than Kronos. I will be the first to admit that Korg dropped the ball with the M3 but they have earned all my respect back and then some with Kronos.
With the Kronos, you more or less got the SV-1, a lighter version of the V-Piano, and the typical Korg synth sounds wrapped into one instrument. The V-Piano is strictly for the pure acoustic pianist who can't play anything but a piano (i.e. Alicia Keys). If I had $4k lying around, I would get the Kronos 88 key, which is available online.
@rich1906 The Kronos is not the same as the SV-1 at all, aside from them both being made by Korg. Kronos uses an entirely new architecture with much more detailed pianos than the SV-1.
V-piano is modeling the structure of piano, whereas Kronos is still sampling piano even though they copied fully, So V-piano wins. However, if we wanna tweak more variety of sounds, Kronos wins.

@z94090 Personally I would do the XS just because of the sound set and versatility. CP1 is a good piece though.
