  • Also- murder, stealing, lying, cheating, idolatry, lust, gossip ANYTHING that brings forth destruction, hardship, and pain to yourself as well as others are demonic forces that dwell within the flesh. I sure have some of my own. Sylvester was very talented. I dig him. I believe that we ALL have a choice to believe in whatever we choose to belive in. I respect ALL points of veiw. Whether one believes in God or just think that the bible is rubbish is ones own belief and business. It's ALL good.

  • God did NOT create gays. A man that sleeps with another man and vice versa (women) is an ABSOLUTE ABOMINATON to God. It was and still has never been in his will for us to sleep with the same sex. We're here to reproduce and keep the human race going. We're also here to love each other too. So PLEASE people I'm NOT judging. I'm just stating what's in the word and how God feels about it. Homosedxuality is not a creation from God. It's a demonic force that resinates in the flesh.

  • these fucking christians can't even say the word 'gay'....and his church...typical judgemental, hateful, backstabbing, hateful homophobes...ahhhh...feel that christian love. bastards.

  • @laceydays1 no their not homophobes, just honest!!!!

  • To this daySylvester is still ahead of his time as a fem gay man and as a trangenedered man. The gay community today isnt like it was back them, embracing other race and gender identies. The gay movement had one voice back then. Its sad to see the divide in the gay community today between the races and the perception of what gay is. If Sylvester lived today he would be sadly disapointed in the direction the Gay community has taken. If your not healthy your no good to us. RIP Sylvester.

  • i am quite comfortable in my heterosexuality. that's why i respected Sylvester so much. he was openly gay at a time when homophobes would and did kill gay men. he was more brave than most heterosexual men i have known. he came here to teach us a lesson. be yourself, no matter what. enjoy life. period. thank you, Sylvester.

  • @gghelo S.O.V, I agree!!

  • sylvester had a gospel-tinged song on one of his albums that was amazing, that his record company never backed. i can't remember the name of the song or the album but, it was the best song i ever heard him sing. i will find it one day and post it and i guarantee you, you will agree. r.i.p. sylvester.

  • sylvester's sister is gorgeous with a sweet voice. love that in a woman.

  • @asianpersuasion08 by the way im not a GOD hater each to their own... but what I am against is stupid people using his name to justify their vileness.

  • @silviogigante whatever

  • BRAVO THIS MAN WAS A GENUS >>>>NUFF SAID X

  • @silviogigante he was a good singer but he was still in a sinful lifestyle unfortunately!!!!

  • @asianpersuasion08 nothing sinful in being whatever you want to be ... how sad your life must be to attack a legend ... what exactly have you achieved to be so high and mighty... I suspect not much !!! now go and find your self a house and lie underneath it.

  • @silviogigante yes it is now go jump off a bridge!!!!

  • so sad .....

  • her chin looks horrible...

  • so sadd rest in peace youll never be forgotten never

  • I have and always will adore him... A beautiful human being who lived life just the way he wanted to live. Just being himself. We could all learn a lesson from that. I will never forget him... May his memory live on in his music forever.

  • wow! A BEAUTIFUL SPIRIT!

Serena willaims favors Sylvester! both pretty

    What a warm Beautiful soul~

  • @BLACKBEAUTYWINS so true man

  • @BLACKBEAUTYWINS i thought that too lol

  • awesome

  • 10:46 he looks like Eddie Murphy as Momma Klump singing in the Choir in the Nutty Professor II

  • lol i had to watch twice at 540 to like 5:50 did she say she was a boy who lives as a girl ??? if so wow never noticed the first time i watched this.

  • sad another black child destroyed by the evil of the church unreal how many years this crap has happend and just gone unsaid

  • Forgive my ignorance but i had absolutely no idea who Sylvester was until today. I know a lot of artistes from the disco era...just never heard of this one

  • They should call the name of Sylvester's abuser because that person probably molested or raped other kids after Sylvester left the church and so on.

  • beautiful documentary about a beautiful person. thank you for sharing.

  • @rayburne thank you compassion for others that is why we are still here! who can cast a stone who can point a finger who???? PEACE AND LOVE MAY OUR LORD AND GOD HAVE MERCY ON US ALL!

  • I LOVE U SYLVESTER...REST IN PEACE!

  • A true LEGEND. There needs to be a movie made about Sylvester. It really does.

  • Asianpersuasion8 you might need to take a look deep into your soul & ask yourself why you've felt the need to add comments to so many of Sylvesters works on YouTube. Like the old adage " he doth protest too much". Think about it.

  • No matter what Sylvesters Lifestyle was, he can sing and he had the spirit of God in his soul. Remember, we are all gods children, we all sin and ask god for repent, hopefully Sylvester asked god to forgive him for his sins.

  • If hate were one drop of fuel, you could produce enough fuel to run the world (considering the comments made on this page about this man). Enough is Enough, hatred never changes things for the better, but love does! Salaam (peace to everyone).

  • @rayburne oh there isn't any hate on here. Love isn't always pleasant!!!!

  • I loved him so much and enjoyed his music over the years and still listen to him (R.I.P.)

  • call the name of the abuser I second that, and it did not stop slyvester from successful

  • never knew his name but I remember that gospel version of you make me feel...googling him now.

  • Call the name! Don't protect an abuser!

  • @70swunderkind no because it is a sinful lifestyle!!!!

  • I was crying like a baby by the time this ended. Thanks Sylvester for being the incredible human being you were, you were mighty real.

  • @howardsturrup me too i was sceaming crying ...tears streaming

  • See the wisdom Martha wash has is out of this world what an amazing amazing woman

  • FANTASTRIC

  • You couldn't live in SF back in the 70's and not know who Sylvester was. I was in high school back then, and he was the dance music diva. A big man, with a big voice and a flair for drama. We loved him. Mighty Real was my favorite and whenever I hear that song on the radio, it brings me back to some happy days, when life wasn't so complicated. Excellent documentary on one of our many unsung recording artists.

  • The pastor that did that too him god see's all ......and u should no that .......stop..in the name of jesus...S.T.O.P it please ......stop

  • I started as a DJ shortly after Sylvester had his hit: "Dance" Disco Heat. I played his music well after he left us and it always brought joy and excitement to my floor. I met Sylvester about 1 1/2 years before he passed. He was so incredibly down to earth and what you heard on record is the exact voice you heard live....that's god given talent and he knew how to use it. I admire so much that he lived his life, his way. Miss you....RIP!

  • I only knew a few songs of Sylvester's...always loved his voice. This documentary is so great in that I get to expand on his musicality...he is one of those Special people...gifted...unreplaceable! R.I.P Sylvester Girl!!!! You will always be loved by me and others.

  • Wow, Sylvester and Serena Williams could be sisters!

  • nothing righteous in hatred! Sylvester was a man, a voice, a dreamer, a star! no matter what these church goers believe god loves gay people too! nothing godly in hatred, nothing angelic in human cruelty! nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @silviogigante God still doesn't approve of homosexuality!!!!

  • @asianpersuasion08 You're an idiot

  • @70swunderkind just like your mother!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @asianpersuasion08 ....God created gays, dumbass. don't believe a book written to control people. commissioned by humans whom thought they were kings and queens and put fear into their lives to control them. times have changed over the millenium.

  • @gghelo God created murderers too idiot!!!!

  • DAMN THE Y CANT SAY GAY OR HOMOSEXUAL. BLACK PEOPLE MAN

  • @frankyboynyc Yesssss. What a damn shame!

  • That church is no good when they harbour a molester. God allowed prison & prison to exist too. The song starting at 07:10 is beautiful...who is the artist?

  • sylvester an awesome person that need to be rediscovered

and given the credit for changing pop culture!

and being the Original MISSS THING!

  • I love dance disco heat.....was great Sylvester,RIP!

  • Shout out to my home church, Love Center. R.I.P. Bishop Walter Hawkins

  • @ThePinkflower39 he performed in drag and when i was a child i thought he was a woman i was told later in 78 he was a man i could care less i loved disco heat i mean i loved that giant 45 and i played it 2 death

  • I was not able to view this clip, wish I could. Listen everyone we must allow our "children" to be whom they are. Let their Happiness shine support them no matter who they may be, they are your Blessing, gift in this journey of life. It's time for our children to stop taking their own lives because of the "hate, ignorence" & judegemnt of those who have not the right. STAND UP BE HEARD BE PROUD live with Love, Respect, Kindness. Pay it forward daily. Blessings to all.

  • i thought i was the only one that had funeral when animal die, that what me and my lil bro did lol

  • @simonsez0800 lol me too

  • wow, i love his music. I got really choked up at the end.

  • @diastqueen: I will never understand people who call themselves Christians and yet they want to protect these sick and twisted predators. I was abused when i was a little boy repeatedly by a church trustee and nobody came to my rescue. So many phoney false so-called Christinas choose to look the other way. If i ever catch this mess going on i will do like the book of Ezk says and sound the alarm. Not all but many of the people at New Birth knew what Eddie Long was doing but chose to be quiet.

  • @DaOrigTruthSeeker I will never understand people who call themselves Christians and yet they dress like the opposite sex. Boys frow into men and girls grow into women. Homosexuality is a sin. Sylvester was confused and needed to be a man, NOT A WOMAN!!!!!

  • @asianpersuasion08 ... hunny he looks better in his skin than you could ever do in yours! by the way are you a man or a woman ... i swear I can see some stubble under you heavy pan stick. DOUCHEBAG!!!!!!

  • @silviogigante oh shut up you whack ass drag queen. maybe you should know ur stuff b4 u start insulting people. i say what i want whenenver i want to. if you dont like KISS MY ASS!!!!!!!!

  • merci pour ce document...fan sylvester...

    patrick from france...

  • nice documentary. i really don't care if a singer is gay or not, i just like good singing.

  • god bless you syl, we will never forget your talent and personality... love you!

  • is it me or does Serena Williams looks exactly like Sylvester...And I love Serena *Blank Face*

  • @AlHolla ....no she doesn't. she is beautiful in her own right, as a woman. when you grow up, you will realize how beautiful she is.

  • That was beautiful, brilliant, heartbreaking. A feature-length version would be nice... a biopic would be even better.

  • @dfastqueen u are so right im so sick of the chruch world i know people right now whos life is mess up because some saved person took advantage of their innocents

  • From the Billy Preston Unsung "the church choir is the gayest place in America"

  • @gdhdlvr So, that is why you go to Church to get help to lay down your sins. Why do people think there is no sin in the Church. All are there to be saved.

  • Please don't ever stop giving us all the quality on YouTube that I wish we could all have more of. Thank you.

  • OKAY...a preacher took a child and "turned him out" but ya'll don't want to say his name??? This is why the cycle is continued because people keep it hush hush. Expose these men and maybe...just maybe we can save our young boys.

  • Comment removed

  • @dlastqueen why the hell do they feel the need to protect the preacher!!

  • @dlastqueen I bet it was Rev James Cleveland. He did that to another young teen in his flock that I knew. That's right, I said it.

  • @natgirrl Never keep a sick perverted sex pedophile a secret.. u did the right thing!!

  • @natgirrl He was closely associated with Walter Hawkins in the late 60's. Likely it was Hawkins instead of Cleveland that did it.

  • @15allnite Was Walter on he down low as well? Interesting. As I said, I knew a church member that was victimized by Cleveland back in the 70's.

  • @dlastqueen and this preacher probably molested alot of other children from the church, that's sick how their protecting his name.

  • One of the most underrated but important "soul singers", of the last century. He gets overlooked for pretty stupid reasons but his vocal ability right there w/ Aretha, Stevie W and Patti Labelled. Sylvester could REALLY sing.

  • Sylvester's death in the last part gave me nightmares. Poor guy.

  • omg at 5.27 he looks like serena williams

  • WOW!!! R.I.P Sylvester. You did it your way and I can't help but to Respect that. God loves all his children. Who am I to judge you. I Love Unsung and this was one of the best episodes I've seen yet. I am in the process of watching them all.

  • Its almost like they can't say the word "gay."

  • @DUGMAC1973 even his sister refers to "it" as "that" lifestyle...wow =\

  • Wow!! I love his music. He is still missed but forever in our heart.

  • thanks for these videos, i love unsung !

  • Love you Sylvester! ♥

  • a tear jerker. r.i.p. love u always sylvester.

  • I once found an a cappella vocal demo with Sylvester either on piano singing or with an accompanying pianist, performing I Need You, it was astonishing.

Sylvester sung with such soul and depth, love that I was just gave me goosebumps. His voice powerful, filled the air with emotion.

You can also hear Gospel in 'Disco Heat'. Just clap along to the open hi-hat in the beat and it becomes basically a Gospel song, he was brilliant!

    - Gary

  • They been turning folks out in the Black church for a while! Eddie Long and Rev. James Cleveland weren't the only preachers guilty of that shit!!!

  • @ZigZagWoman Thank you for your email ! You just Blessed me because I did NOT know that there was a "Unsung" done on the Clark Sisters (I was just wondering why they had never did an unsung on Jazz or Gospel Artist). Anyways, Thank you very VERY much. that was sweet of you to send me a reply/email. Be Blessed Beloved.

    in HIS service

    kato

  • @katofromgreenhornet Thank you so much! Btw, did you watch the Clark Sisters Unsung yet?

  • TV One is the Bomb !!

    That GOD for Unsung !!!!

I wish they would do Unsung on Gospel & Jazz Artist !!!!

  • @katofromgreenhornet They have one on the Clark Sisters that's really good.

  • @katofromgreenhornet - I concur! These Unsung documentaries are stellar. All these musicians overlooked or better yet, ignored by the mainstream are given wonderfully well produced documentary tributes, steering clear as far as I can tell of the more oppressive and destructive elements that hip hop (coughgangstarap) ushered in.

  • @wendileona Tell the truth & shame the devil beloved !!!

I love TV One...TV one is everything that BET use to be.......

BET was the BOMB back in the day with Video Soul (Remember Donnie Simpson !!!).

I wish we could get the 80's back....Songs like Slow Jam by Midnight Star, etc, etc.....

  • Comment removed

  • @katofromgreenhornet Yep, I loved Video Soul and remember Donnie and even Video Vibrations, the lighter side of BET but important one.

Once Viacom bought BET, it became part of the destruction of African American culture via the bombardment of negative images of them. Kids growing up then with gangstarap which was basically letting gang bangers supplant actual musicians and songwriting, left them with very little to follow in terms of carrying the torch of what so many had contributed before.

  • @wendileona What you said about BET soooooo true! It's just a minstrel show (or channel).

  • @utubegirl Googsearch "New Minstrelsy", thanks for your reply!

    - Gary

  • Of course, 1 person would "dislike" this video simply because he was a gay man.

Nonetheless, I really appreciate this video and the "Unsung" program on TV One. Sharing the stories and lives of ALL the unsung talents in our community.

  • Sylvester was a musical treasure. He was a true pioneer and will live forever through his music!
