Hey do you know where the CMOS is located? A friend of my bought one second hand, buts its "drive locked," so i need to reset the cmos. but dont know where is located. and i dont wanna open up the whole thing. Witch part do i need to open to located the cmos battery? Thanks
@speedhero There is a cmos battery, but unplugging it and plugging it back in does nothing but screw up the time. It's located on the bottom side of the board. The system board needs to be replaced. If it's still under warranty, it's a business-class laptop, and therefore, can be serviced by an HP technician(because they have their own employees) that will meet at your location of choice. If the hard drive is locked via HP Drive Lock, you need to replace the drive; it's hardware-based security.
@swansonberger PS: The battery is located to the right of the wifi card(not the 3g card on the bottom. The 3g card is an option and may not be installed on your build.) It's under the keyboard. Also, are you referring to BitLocker TPM security, or HP Drive Lock?
garbage laptop!!! I hate all HP's but I guess it keeps you employed and also keeps me working at my job... I unboxed 10 6930p's, 2 had bad memory, and 1 had bad trackpad, 30% hardware failure rate right from the manufacturer.... gotta love it!!!
The screen and base assembly both have to be replaced. If you have a 6930P that's not latching, it's related to a manufacturing issue. This is a relatively new notebook and should still have warranty on it, meaning HP will come out and replace the necessary parts. If these parts do not fix the issue, they may need to have it sent in to them. Trust me. I know exactly what I'm talking about %100!
