Im a Confederate Flag loving red-neck bastard I dont like what Mitt had to say about it being decisive ,but if he wins the nomination Im down with him. He is a great man and soon to be a great Prez
Tony Brown's Journal which aired on a Chicago station was more honest than most white liberal shows. He had a majority of African American Historians whom stated FACTS not Modern PC. The viewer was to decide for himself.
Another lie told by liberals is that slaves were captured by whites hiding in bushes in Africa, but the truth is, that most of the slaves were captured by other african tribes through military conquest, and then sold off to the highest bidder.
5% owned slaves? Whatever. Funny- it used to be just 10% I guess this number will decrease until it's just one slaveowner, and he was a northern racist who came south just to upset the "peace" between the races by owning 4 million slaves. The 5 or 10% of slaveowners were the men of the family. the wife or kids not paying for the slaves doesn't mean they weren't slave owners. Whites in 1860 benefited by the fact that they didn't have to be a black slave, whipped and degraded by other people.
@bryanac625 Dude, no offense, but you really don't know your stuff. Either keep this a rational discussion and be humble about your lack of knowledge on the subject, or go find some other person who's video you don't like to be obnoxious too.
I'd rather have been a northerner working in a dirty factory than a slave on a southern plantation with no freedom except for the freedom to watch your wife and kids sold off to somebody else. Thanks to OSHA ,the EPA and labor unions, most of us can't imagine what work was like at the time. But bad labor conditions in the north will never make the crimes of slavery any better.
@cowboy4ev2 I don't know about that. Listen to the audio recordings made in the 1930s of former slaves. I recall the one who said he would kill himself before he would ever be a slave again.
@bryanac625 They're called the slave narratives and the vast majority of them had nothing negative to say about the institution. In fact, many were grateful for it because it gave them a chance to come to America (anyone want to be in Africa right now?) and learn the Gospel, not to mention most slave masters treated their slaves very well. Tocqueville and other foreign observers do a better job than I of getting that across. Go to therisingseed(dot)blogspot(dot)com I've written on it there.
@cowboy4ev2 No, I do know my stuff. I'm a historian with a college degree and I've studied this subject all of my life. I've read the slave narratives of Frederick Douglass, Wallace Turnage and John Washington. They know more about what it was to be an American slave than we ever will.
I never said all white southerners were evil people. But I'm not going to look at history through the revisionist, PC views you do. Again, if slavery was so great, have your wife be someone's slave.
@bryanac625 I having a very hard time believing your a historian when you create straw men, beg the question, and belittle people who disagree with you. My undergrad is in history, but to be perfectly honest I got indoctrinated to a Northern view in my classes. I haven't said anything about slavery being "positive." There were some horrible aspects to slavery in our country (i.e. man capture and racism).
@bryanac625 No, I do know my stuff.
@bryanac625 The North captured them (the cruelest part was the middle passage which was done by Northerners), The South bought them, and most of them still had a better life in slavery than they do as civil slaves to the government currently. Yet the South is the scape-goat of the nation. It's highly hypocritical and dishonest to crucify the south for something every nation participated in. And saying my views are PC is weird. You're the one with the Politically Correct view.
@bryanac625 That's just a weird claim to make. Verifying in my mind that you must not have spent a lot of time in college, or you'd know the professors favor your view. Regarding my wife. I'd love for my wife and I to both be slaves of a good master. Slavery is as good or as bad as the man who's in charge. I'm a slave of Christ, as the Bible says. The institution of slavery isn't wrong (there's a biblical model for it...although abused in our country), but mankind can be wrong.
@cowboy4ev2 I have freedom in Christ, He set me free a long time ago when I asked Him into my life. And "abused in our country;" "man-capture and racism" is all I wanted to hear you admit, rather than sugar-coat the truth.
I'm sorry if I said things that were disrespectful. But please- don't minimize an institution that was a crime against humanity. I don't know anybody wanting to be a slave to someone else regardless of the circumstances.
If slavery really wasn't that bad, why don't you become one? Or have your wife and kids enslaved somewhere? Who in the south was an abolitionist in 1861? If they hated slavery so much, why didn't they do more to stop it? Jefferson Davis: "We recognize the negro as God tells us to recognize him-our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude" doesn't sound like a hatred of slavery and white supremacy to me.
@bryanac625 With all do respect you need to read a lot more on the history of slavery. Study how Jefferson Davis treated and freed his slaves. His views were very mild compared to the common thought of the day (just read Lincoln!). Read the Confederate Constitution and what it had to say about slavery. I don't know where you've gotten your information, but it's definitely been extremely one sided.
@cowboy4ev2 Your is also one-sided. Allowing slaves to name themselves and taking their own food is nice, but saying Gods want me to call people inferior while president doesn't cut it. Bottom line- what did Davis do to end slavery and enfranchise blacks into society? And the Confederate Constitution said that no state could join the CSA unless it was a slave state.
@bryanac625 I never said what privileges the slaves had. You're putting words in my mouth. Davis freed his own slaves, was president of a nation which outlawed the slave trade and made the federal government incapable of stopping the institution from being outlawed (in contrast to the U.S.), and towards the end of the war had a plan for freeing slaves on the basis of their willingness to fight for the confederacy (Lee's plan). Read the Confederate Constitution again, it doesn't say that.
In all the years I've studied American history, I have yet to read about a free, northern black family that ran away from the north to live in the south. But someday on the internet, I'm sure I will.
@bryanac625 1. Underground Railroad ended in Canada because most Northern States either denied civil liberties, or didn't grant at all residence to blacks. 2. There weren't enough blacks in the North to "escape" to the South. They had already been sold by the Northerners (look up population stats). 3. There were many free-blacks in the South who were very successful. Look up Gullah Tours.
Hey dick, that question was design by the left in order to try to hurt the republican party just like most of the questions they asked.
Its a loaded political question design to divide and there is no way to answer that without committing political suicide.
Why don't you ease up a little and focus your effort on people who actually go out of their way to hurt your cause rather than try to bash someone who was given a loaded question.
the british and the saxons were in bed together the whole time, its how the royals work, they create division and back both sides. its a win win situation for them, they were both ruled by the same family after all!its the same with republicans and democrats today! run by the same familys so its win win all the way.the last real president of USA was JFK and we all no what happend to him
this was the dumbest video ive seen to date.. your a dumb f*ck for saying that the democrats are dividing and tearing us down by using the media to make us beleive lies...... 1st of all nobody lies more then republicans....2nd if people used their brains when they voted only 5% of the people would vote republican because they only care about corporations (including oil companies and the wealthiest americans.. republicans trick dumb people into voting for them by using spin and dirty politics.
you cited none of you information on how the "democrats are dividing and tearing us down by using the media to make us beleive lies regarding our nations history, the flag is used by them to make them as a tool to insight racial hatred towards southerners." that is all an outragous opinion by you based off of a luney conspiracy of the democrats secretly planning to make the north hate the south.. that is rediculous and anyone in their right minds knows it.
well i guess nobody said southerners ever started with a right state of mind... and the way you say the "war of northern agression" makes me laugh. It sounds like you have been listening to Fox noise too much and now you will beleive anything anybody tells you... and as a matter of FACT the confederate flag as we know it today may not have originated as a flag that represents hatred towards african americans but it most definitely IS currently a symbol of racial tension by u dumb country f*cks.
How much information do you want? I mean, I can cite some information from you if you're sitting down. Of course, considering your actions and tone against this, I sincerely doubt you would take 5 minutes to actually look anything up considering, in your first response, you said "that is rediculous and anyone in their right minds knows it. "
Why waste any time citing sources if you're just going to ignore them.
haha okay... listen to wat u said... i have it quoted in one of my responses.... you said that democrats are using the media to spread lies.... the media and dems are 2 way different things... media is made up of privatized companies that report on watever they feel like... sure there is partisan stuff like how FOX noise is way republican... but to think that the republicans are using the media to make the north hate the south is rediculous... or even to think that the dems are using the media.
About the whole "Pro-Life Bologna" as you put it...
I was curious. Isn't the answer supposed to be that "no one is for abortion"? I keep hearing that all the time. So why are we not allowed to not be for abortion?
Besides, I'd be okay with Abortion being legal if we could vote on it. If you, as you say, were to vote on because "If people voted their interests the democrats would always win AT LEAST 90%-10%", then we should remove the Supreme Court's hold on it and vote. What are you afraid of?
personally i dont care about abortion.. i would never have one but I think you have to be a moron to vote republican just for the whole "prolife" thing.. which is a load of crap because democrats are more christian because they care about what happens to the child after it pops out of the mom, and they actually DO something to try and reduce the number of abortions needed, the republicans are against contraceptives... people with little IQ, like many ppl i know, have gotten suckered by this BS.
one thing that i dnt understand about u "evangelical" pussies is y in the world u r republican?? i mean u claim to live by the good book and yet u vote for a party that only cares about the wealthiest 10% of americans, and tries to elimintate all socialized programs that give relief to ppl that need it.. DIDNT the bible talk about giving helping ppl in need???? let me guess ur a moron and got tricked into voting republican just because of the hole prolife bologna? yeah a lot of people were..
if the GOP (gay ole party) didnt try and act all holier-than-thou they would never win an election because if people voted their intresets the democrats would always win AT LEAST 90%-10% but the republicans spread lies and use form thier agenda around issues that touch the "souls" of u freaks such as abortion bullshit and gay marraige... those crazie SOBs that are "values voters". :)
Please use spellchecker before you continue. Not to be insulting, but it would make answering you easier for me. I didn't even realize you gave a source or answer because I couldn't read the rest of what you said. the Mozilla Foxfire program comes has it come standard. Please, if you wish to continue this conversation, please find some method of better communicating your opinions.
8 out of the 10 richest US Senators are Democrats.
Majority of the Fortune 500 companies donated to a Democrat.
Exxon has given more money to Obama than McCain.
The Bible does say that. However, I don't see the Bible saying the Government has to be obligated to help the poor. It should be done thru families, the people, the Church, and as a last resort, the Government.
Which I have given a year of my life to help the poor. Can you say the same?
actually it is 7/10 senators, but that doesnt really matter when they are against bush-mccain tax breaks for the wealthy, and are for tax breaks for families that actually need them.. and "McCain has received three times more money from the oil industry in general - $1.3 million for McCain compared to approximately $394,000 for Obama", and yes the bible may not say that however anyone that cares about the well being of all man would be for socialized programs that help people in need..
because churches in general are not helping anywhere near enough people in this country, even though some are trying their best.. all im saying is that if you are not in the richest 10% of the population why would anyone vote for such a selfish, fear mongering, full of shit party?
There are tax breaks? Wealthy people make up for 40% of this nation's wealth. They get taxed plenty in our country. Also, don't forget that only 2% of them inherited their money.
The rest of the 98% earned their money. Usually those "rags to riches" type of story that we see constantly. And yes, they do donate to poverty. As well as pay more taxes than you could ever begin to understand. Are you saying they should be punished for their hard work because you can't make it like they could?
the republican party is making it harder for those rags-to-riches stories to happen.. "In this decade, American workers have consistently given us rising productivity. That means, year after year, they work harder and produce more."
Now, what did they get in return? Declining wages, less than one-fourth as many new jobs as in the previous eight years, smaller health care and pension benefits, rising poverty, and the biggest increase in income inequality since the 1920s."
They took us from record surpluses to an exploding debt; from over 22 million new jobs to just 5 million; from increasing working families' incomes to nearly $7,500 a year to a decline of more than $2,000 a year; from almost 8 million Americans lifted out of poverty to more than 5.5 million driven into poverty; and millions more losing their health insurance." ~bill clinton
they want you to think its all the republicans fault. the truth is republicans and democrats work together and are best friends behind closed doors. they are both evil scum who wish to take advantage of you.
It is best to refer back to the policies of Washington and Jefferson who said that political parties are a very bad thing and foreign intervention is horribly wrong.
I also love the fact you refer to the GOP as the Gay Ole Party and then comment about how we push our Anti-Gay agenda. We just don't want them to marry: we don't actually hate them.
You use Gay in such a derogatorily manner, as if something was wrong with that lifestyle choice. Very interesting...
I vote Republican (which I am doing so this year with 3 shots of Vodka) because I believe in lower taxes, limited government, and wish to see the removal of the nanny state that Dems have put us in.
I also love the fact you try to push the Mainstream Media is somehow Conservative. Where have I been?
You're telling me that the praise and blessings to Obama I read in the New York Times every so often, as well from the lips of the Associated Press, CNN, MSNBC, etc are all Conservative?
They pull the masquerade very well...
Anyways, to pull this back on topic, I do agree that the Southern flag has been used in racial terms, however, the Swastika didn't always represent the Nazi's either.
the mainstream media is not conservative or liberal... MSN is generally liberal and FOX is more conservative... and CNN i see as being somewhat conservative or fair i guess but im sure you see it differently.. and you are completely correct about that flag and swastika.. they may not have originated as symbols of hate but that is what they have became... but that isnt realy the problem i had with this video... i didnt like how he or you or who ever it was said that the democrats are tearing us
i dont care what gays do, marry, or whatever, as long as they dont try and do me.. and WOW are you very wealthy? you must be if mccain will be lowering your taxes more than obama, because as i just heard on the news, obama will lower peoples taxes more than mccain if they are making under $150,000... the last 3 republican presidents, george HW bush, ronald reagan, and this one have done their best and a great job at making life tougher for the middle class and basically eliminated the middle
.. middle class, and they have all racked up enormous defacits meanwhile democrats turn defacits into surpluses.. look at bill clinton, after taking office after two presidents that spent money like a drunken sailor he caim in and cut the defacit by an average of $156,000,000,000.00 a year which created an economic boom, unemployment fell from 6% to 4%, the GNP increased at an anual rate of 3%, stock market more than doubled in value, and homeownership rose to an all-time high...and i luv pelosi
So, you're claiming that "Bill's Crowning Achievement" was a Demi job? Oh no, no, no...it was Republicans that got the ball rolling. After they took over Congress, Bob Dole helped get the ball rolling on that bill. And it did well. Clinton took credit for it, though. Which was great...until he started spending all that income on such useless programs (Remember Midnight Baksetball? Do you really wanna know how much that cost?!) Basically, the deficit we're in was his fault. Bush hasn't helped it.
your insane... the republican party got us into a hole and bill clinton cleaned house and took us from a HUGE deficit and gave us a RECORD surplus which W bush has turned into a RECORD deficit.
Actually, I'm about to apply for Medicaid for my unborn child. I'm not wealthy, but I plan on getting out of it by achieving it. That's what the government is supposed to do. Help you out until you can step on your own two feet. I plan on doing so. I don't want to be stuck where I am if/when we implement socialized programs that keep me exactly where I am, because I'm paying so damn much for taxes just so Jim Bob can not work and get his health insurance.
ive looked up marxism.. ive read books about marxism but the truth is that socialized programs will not lead to a socialist government and eventually lead to communism... it is a way of FEAR MONGERING that you republicans use so you can keep the poor poor and the rich rich..
also i do understand what you are saying about "jim bob" and these freeloaders like the welfare mama's that just pop kids out consistantly just to get benefits and what not... but there are (especially after this president) people who really really want to have a job and be able to make it like everyone else but cannot find work that will give them enough pay to live confortably..
The problem is that everyone has been indoctrinated into a city workers mentality as I like to call it. Help out the boss and he gives you the cash you need to buy food etc. People forget that going agricultural is out there. Leave the city find some land and grow your own food, hunt, etc. Nothing like doing for yourself and being completely independent. You can always open your own business too. You don't have to work for somebody else.
from the frist adress in the info bar tells that the usa was the confredice we have now adays we have left the constitun the 10 ammend says that we can suced from the usa if we are unhappy look at all these liknk they are the tuouth rember what you learned in school the text books were riten my the winers of the war linion had sugest that the 13 amment was going to let the south have slaves foraver but the cas comstitun sad at the end of the life of the slav that the next genration would not be
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, repo, and assume that English is your second language. However, I can't honestly grasp what it is you're trying to say.
Ron Paul and Huckabee! Oh yeah! You are correct, the Stars and Stripes. We must make it known to people that we are a dicerse people with many incorporated. We must break away and save America. We must bring back the constitution
Our ancestors couldnt have fought for something they didnt have end of story. Slavery became a political tool used by Lincoln and then just a plain ol scape goat for the unjust war of Northern Aggression+greed and corruption.
God bless our second revolutionaries. Though they lost unlike the first they taught the power hungry Federal government a valuable lesson. One the EVERYBODY benefits from today.
What about the fact that 95% to 97% of all Southern troops never owned slaves they were to poor. Yet Grant did the whole duration of the war. How can they fight for somethin they dont even have. Yeah its really about race and slavery. Wow
My ancestors fought in the Civil War, and I can provably show that not one of my family members ever owned a slave, starting from John Adams onward.
Adams, being a staunch anti-slaver, passed that on to his son, John Quincy Adams, (the guy Anthony Hopkins played in Amistad), moving on from there, and so on and so forth. They ended up being screwed over by the constant tariffs from the North so that's why they chose to fight.
Mine fought as well and they also owned no slaves. Like many they were to poor to own slaves therefore they were also to poor to afford the immense overtaxation by the Federal government. People just like to be ignorant and believe everyone in the South owned slaves or at least the majority. Well the truth is quite the contrary. Almost zero Confederate soldiers owned them. They never would either they were far to poor. Then again most are to ignorant to care about the truth. Doesnt suprise me.
Anyone that says the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and slavery should call into question their very existence. If you really believe that you clearly learned nothin in highschool or college. Ok you can call it that but then what is the Stars and Stripes? Way worse thats what. When those slaves came in what flag was flyin? what about when 1000s of Native Americans were slaughtered. Yeah thats right. The STARS AND STRIPES.What about in the 1950s and 60s yea the Stars and Stripes.
"Slaves were generally treated better than northern free blacks and industrial workers."
That, right there, proves that you're a liar and an idiot. You don't believe that statement for one second, and we all know it's bullshit.
It's amazing how deluded you are. But it's good to know that white trash nutcases like you mostly reside in the Republican Party, basically guaranteeing that you'll never hold serious power in this country again.
Hold on there... First of all, I'm not a Republican. Secondly, I backed my statement up with facts. What facts do you offer up that are diametrically opposed to mine? All you did was give your opinion and support it was curse words. How about offering up some real evidence?
Thank you for this great vid full of facts. I have been preechin these facts for years now. Romney was a mommas boy and a yes man He just says what you want to hear I am proud to say I have been able to get 22 yankee supporters over to the good side of the Confederacy and about 14 people who didnt even have a side The facts are on our side The good facts Lincoln and Sherman were warcriminals That war wasnt over slavery Its about the corruption between northern politicians and captain of industry
Very historically accurate and articulate argument, but you KNOW what that flag really means to people nowadays. You know that nothing positive is meant behind the people who fly that flag. And I don't know about you (I have a guess) But I'm glad the north won and preserved our great union. The one thing the North and Washington DID fuck up is reconstruction tho. If they didn't pussy out, white southerners wouldn't be as bitter as they still are today.
In all honesty...I keep hearing that people use it as a racist symbol, but I've never in my whole life met anyone who has. Everyone I know who flies/respects that flag isn't racist. My family comes from Mississippi, so if it did stand for racism I'd know about it I think. You're right the North preserved the union, but at what cost? All the men who died? The economically obliterated south? The slaves who were suddenly released and had nowhere to go? I think the cost outweighs the benefits.
I'm pretty sure those slaves would have rather had no place to go and not been slaves, than to be enslaved man; and your right that the south was economically obliterated, but that could have been remedied if the North had stuck to it's guns and remained committed to it's reconstruction. And of course people died, it was war. Sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in.
"I'm pretty sure those slaves would have rather had no place to go and not been slaves"
Estimates indicate that more slaves fought for the confederacy than the union. Slaves were generally treated better than northern free blacks and industrial workers. The whole reason there are so many black people mad at America is for not coming through with the "forty acres and a mule," etc.
By the way...the North did stick to its guns, which is why the South was obliterated...
26/blk male/ca - I think this is an great video. I pretty much agree w/ almost pt you make. UNFORTUNATELY, it doesn't mean that the flag hasn't gained a reputation by many of its supports, whether it was originated that way or not. By my personal experience and that of my peers, I've learned that the vast MAJORITY of the supporters of this flag ARE prejudice towards race, regardless of the history of this flag.
I haven't encountered that in my experience...but while we're on the subject, the American flag itself is used by the neo-nazi party and KKK, (who also use the cross of Jesus)...so just because a group misuses something, doesn't make it wrong. (In fact if you'll notice, the majority of the state flags down south have the southern star somewhere in their pattern)
It does not make any since to say that the war was over slavery. Only 5% of the southern population owned slaves. This fact being known why would the other 95% fight so the 5% could keep their slaves. hhhmmmmmmm?
Hey...A Friend of mine just called me on my cell phone and ask me if I had been "Oppressed" today and I told him that I didnt know...Ill have to e-mail Doc418 and ask him!! LOL!
"Surrender means that the history of this historic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youths will be taught by northern scool teachers, learn from northern school books their version of the war." Confederate Gen. Patrick Cleburne
Johnny: Nice quote & depressingly prophetic. Brings to mind Gen. Lee's tragic hindsight on the nature of the banking/bureaucratic dictatorship that he then & we now are ever more being crushed by:
"Governor, if I had foreseen the use these people designed to make of their victory, there would have been no surrender at Appomattox Courthouse; no sir, not by me. Had I foreseen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in my right hand."
This flag is the symbol of an insurrection against the United States of America, its Constitution and the founding fathers of our country that represents a lost and corrupt idiology of the people that flew the flag. It is not against the Constitution or law to own one but true Americans should know that if they do choose to worship this flag they are holding something that was against the United States. I true act of patriotism would be to denounce that flag and vow not to fly it
That flag with the exception of the issue of slavery represents what the founding fathers originally intended. The relevance of states rights(powers)as stated in the 10th amendment is the key to sustaining individual liberties. Remember that history is always written bty the "victor".
amer: You proclaim on your channel: "My family has been in America since 1735 & I am a decendant [sic] of a Revolutionary War soldier that retired from the Continental Army.."
Shame on you then. One doesn't gain understanding from blood. If this flag symbolizes what you say it does to you, you are ignorant & it doesn't matter if 6 billion agree, you would all be wrong. If you ARE a patriot you're on the wrong horse. The cause the South fought for was FAR closer to the founders' intentions.
The Confederate Flag is not guilty of anything that your Beloved Flag of the United States is not guilty of. If you can name anything...please advise, I would just LOVE to know. If you cant, you need to know how silly your posts are. Thanks
Interesting video. The power elites and their non-white constituents use th battle flag to demonise Southerners and whites. Neo-Confederate activists don't always help their cause. But I wonder how the power elites will react to symbols of secession from Hispanic separatists and black militants? The day is coming when we will be faced with another rebellion.
Everyone likes to bitch about the Federal Gov't. At least the south did something about it. Reminds me of work. Everyone bitches about their boss all day ,but when one person makes a stand, he is ostracized for it.
What the hell is a neo-COnfederate? If that term has any meaning then can we also call McPherson a "ne0-Abolitionist fanatic" of the Horace Greely/John Brown mold?
And to Accuse Shelby Foote of Northern Bias is rather laughable as well. Maybe you should read Foote and McPherson and drop this myth of the South fighting for a worthy cause.
You can laugh all you want, I've had Northern propaganda enough to know I don't need to be sticking my head in the garbage anymore, I know that it stinks. Out of curiosity have you read Kennedy, Ewing, Tilly, or Clint Johnson?
Yes I know Clint Johnson and his participation in the "political incorrect" books. And I also know about secessionist and Neo-Confederates like Thomas Woods or Thomas Dilorenzo, whose books are interesting to read, but in the end flawed.
And last, to say that slaves in the south were treated humanely and better than European factory workers is the most pathetic and laughable thing I have heard. When you get whipped, starved, sold to other masters, and have you family broken up, slave wages in factories seems a lot better.
I'll try to keep this as short as I can. First of all, I'm not a libertarian, I'm a strict constitutionalist. Some would call me a states rights conservative. The secession was perfectly legal, without going into a lot of detail, I suggest you read the constitutional resolutions of Virginia and New York especially. The stats I mentioned about the slaves are true, they actually were healthier than whites in the North and south. I got that info from a U.S. census. What's your source?
I have read the New York and Virginia Constitutional resolutions, and they bear no Constitutional meaning towards the Constitution. Second, I know you are a states rights man, you believe the states can do whatever they want with the people, hence, you are party an authoritarian in that regard. Your stats about slaves are complete nonsense. My source is McPherson's battle cry of freedom and Shelby Foote oddly enough.
The ratification documents were the terms upon which each state ratified the Constitution. Of course they have an incredible amount of weight and bearing on Constitutional Interpretation. I don't think you know what a true states rights person is. Read the 10th amendment and find out please. And my stats are from the U.S. government. I haven't actually read "Battle Cry of Freedom" and "Shelby Foote" nor do I desire to. The reviews I've read from the historically literate show the Northern bias.
No, the New York and Virginia resolutions, like the Kentucky/Virginia ones have no constitutional meaning. Rufus King views of the matter from the Philadelphia Convention is worth reading. 2nd, I have read the 10th amendment and it confers no right to states, only powers not delegated. States rights is used as a pretext to violate the rights of people, most notably African American citizens.
I don't doubt it. King was a Federalist, that makes sense. But all king has is an opinion, I stand on precedent. Precedent has bearing on actual, opinion doesn't have any bearing. The 10th amendment says, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Now how about understanding that in plain English.
And the 10th amendment doesn't give any state the right of secession, to say so would mean that the Federal Government denied itself that very which sounds ridiculous to say th least. The 10th amendment justify southern secession either which was really an act of rebellion, (rebellion against the government for exercising its powers under article 1 clause 8) and more importantly seceding to protect the institution of Slavery, Alexander Stephen's Cornerstone speech makes this clear.
Fourth, the reason why the Confederate officers were not charged with treason, is not because there wasn't a legal means to do it, they committed treason after all. they weren't charged with treason because of something Lincoln said, "malice towards none". No one is discriminating against southerners, what people are discriminating against is the apologist and false use of History that you used.
3rd secession should be legal when the government, state or federal violates the rights of the people. The south on the other hand was not being oppressed, they were doing the oppression and seceded to promote the oppression. As a Libertarian, our government has indeed operated beyond constitutonal means, but so have the state governments, Yet I bet you believe the States should have the power to rule over our lives, like a typical Doughface..
The South "Not being oppressed" is not for you to say. This is nothing but your "Opinion" Not a fact of history. Your post has a lot of your opinions..The South Succeed from the Union. Without fireing a shot! The Federal Army marching down to invade the Southland is what started the war.
But I still get a kick of reading some of the Silly things that you post.
Fort Sumter was not firing a shot after secession but it was firing a shot, and no, it isn't an opinion I'm stating, the South was not being oppressed, they were the ones doing the oppression and seceded to keep the oppression ongoing.
Please explain just how you can say that the South was not being oppressed? What are you going by? Can you say that the man next door is not being oppressed? That is up to the people of the South to make that call. Do you feel that the taking of Fort Sumter was wrong? Any worse that the American Army taking the British forts? I really dont think that you can tell me anything that the Confederate Flag is guilty of that the US Flag is not. If you can please let me know....I cant find a thing
To be oppressed is to be denied liberty. What liberty was the South being denied? non. It had all the liberties it wanted. Now if you complained that the south was being taxed, sorry but that's not oppression that is Congress exercising its taxing power under Article 1 section 8. The fact is, the South seceded to keep the institution of slavery alive. Alexander Stephen's Cornerstone Speech as I have said before expresses the shameless pathetic thing called the Confederacy.
You once again have given me the meaning of what oppression means to you. You can not make that call for anyone else. Thinking like that is what causes wars and conflicts in the first place. You dont know what makes me happy, sad , sick or what oppresses me at all. AS far as Alexander Stephens speech calling for Slavery...is that any worse than the United States Congress passing a admendment to the Constitution that would allow the South to have Slavery as long as it wished? Hypocrisy!
It is hypocrisy, it is also hypocrisy to say that the confederacy was being oppressed when they kept individuals in bondage. The reason you don't understand what oppressed means and thinks I'm giving you my opinion, is simple, you just don't understand what freedom is. Like the person who made this video, you thrive on virulent ignorance.
You are a Silly, Silly Person. At least you admitted that the US was guilty of hypocrisy also! Hey, Thats a start. All you have on the brain is the slavery thing! There was a"LOT" more to the war than just that! But anyway, please entertain us some more!
I know that a lot of people are getting a real kick out of you! Thanks
The South lacked representation. At the time, the Congress was under Free State control and, though the South paid it's taxes, the Northern politicians were calling the shots. Taxation without representation. Taxes are not evil, but taxes used to hire soldiers to kill you after you pay them ARE. The South was not going to take orders from corrupt industrialists, and NEITHER WOULD I. Yes, the Confederacy should NEVER have started the war, and if there was one, the South should have finished it.
Actually the North started it. Not all the southern states withdrew at once. After the initial battle at FT. Sumter, then the majority of the other Southern states seceded to defend their states against Federal troops.
The attack on Fort Sumter was uncalled for. Don't get me wrong, I'm a proud Southerner, but the attack on Fort Sumter gave the Northern Republicans a case for war. Otherwise, the Republicans could only grit their teeth as the South formed a separate, prosperous country, and if the North invaded and the South fought ONLY a defensive war, Britain and France would support Dixie and she would have won her independence.
Here's the thing though...if you research the maryland riots which preceded ft. sumter, you'll find that when Lincoln declared martial law over maryland (so it wouldn't secede) the first shots of the war were fired. Also, Ft. Sumter was provoked. It was a Federal fort in enemy territory, and was given ample opportunity to surrender. While they said they'd evacuate the fort, instead Lincoln sent reinforcements. This is what caused the battle. And yes, it was used as justification.
I posted this a long time ago. I did a presentation on the confederate flag and found exactly what you have stated, the fort should have been evacuated. Sorry for what I said before, but I was not yet fully free of the lies that have been spread of our brave Confederacy. I further found that Lincoln used the abolition of slavery as an excuse to keep the war going and make the industrialists even more rich, showing that one of the "great" president's in our history was a corrupt, evil liar.
This is a pretty flawed video as well, first, The confederacy seceded from the union to protect slavery, Not to fight taxes or "secular humanism", I think you should read Cornerstone speech by Alexander Stephens. 2nd, Virginia and Kentucky resolutions have little meaning in Constitutional law. No state can legally nullify the laws of the Federal government, and since James Madison, author of one of the resolutions, renounced nullification later in life, puts nullification at an end.
Funny spin, I stopped watching after the first few minutes. The First National Flag that you displayed was replaced by the Second National Flag which is the more recognizable confederate flag "the stainless banner". It was, as you said, also used as the naval ensign, but that was not its sole purpose as you attempted to suggest. I imagine the rest of your bit follows the same pattern along with your sources.
At 3:52 ... You talk about Western English, IRish and Scottish fighting the Northerners. You can't get any more North then Scotland, unless you mean the Picts.
=====
As for African Americans, I've known some who have them and are proud of their heritage. They fought too for their land.
Living in Houston Texas myself and being a southerner, i personally dont support any form of racism, but lets get the facts straight, down here the flag is flown by many, the guy across the street from me has his hung next to the American flag, it doesnt offend me because I love being a southerner, I love the heritage and I'm simply just used to it, its been around me my whole life
THat flag is not racist, niether is the ku klux klan if u look into its,its a christian group and to keep heritage alive, blame hollywood for making it look racist
I agree with your assertion about the flag. But the KKK may not officially be "racist", but it certainly has a lot of racists in the organization. I realize that Hollywood makes them look worse than they really are, but if you talk to people like Rev. Clery (x-kkk member) you'll find that it is in fact racist.
All the people I know who hang it aren't racist. I've actually never even met someone who hang it because of racism. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but I suspect that they are few and far between.
the flag is offensive to many African Americans, as a symbolizes a time of US history in which they were the property of another individual. Why is that the majority of displayers and proponents of the confederate flag are white? I'm sure there are some blacks that display the flag, but I suspect they are few and far between.
i love these alternate theories on history..."the war of northern aggression"...slaves in the south were treated real well man! better than anyone else, we should have allowed that institution to continue for another 50 years! great argument!
all youve proven in this video is that your a christian nut job, who honestly believes that slaves were treated fine and that the south was right to have slaves.
You have accused me of stating things I did not state. I never said we should have allowed the institution to continue for 50 years. I never said the South was right to have slaves. Either you are ignorant or you are a liar. I hope it's the former.
You are arguing that slaves lived in an unsegregated and healthy society. It seems you are clearly trying to imply that slavery wasn't "all that bad of an institution" and that the media unfairly criticizes the practice of slavery. I strongly question your motives of posting a video like this: are you a member of the KKK?
f the south won the civil war, then there would probably be 2 Americas. Slavery would have been phased out between 1890-1920 when it became obsolete because of machinery, but it would not have been BANNED until the late 1950s-1960s...infact, CSA may have been segregated until around the apartheid movement in south africa. the confederate flag has no place in American society.
Remember that it was unsegregated before the Civil War. Fed's forces segregation. Check your history, you'll see what I'm saying is accurate. And you "phased out" theory is speculation. Read the Confederate Constitution and you'll find out it outlawed the slave trade. Rather than freeing the slaves "all at once" (which hurt them) being gradual would help everyone in the long run.
This is a very good video. I like the educated response to the ignorance of some of the presidential candidates. However, although the flag's origins are widely misunderstood, it has taken an entirely different meaning since the Civil War. Multiple individuals, like the candidates, also have a misconstrued idea of the confederate flag and have waved it as a symbol of racism. The fact of the matter is that the flag has gradually taken on a racist connotation throughout the years.
For example, let us take the N word for a moment. The early usage of the word was derived from word "negro," which means black in Spanish and Portuguese. So, in the United States, the early meaning of the word was only to describe black or dark skinned people. However, we can all agree that the word has taken on a whole different meaning since its conception.
You make a very good argument Cowboy, but I can only agree with you to an extent. The symbolism of the confederate flag has evolved throughout the years. Therefore, it is somewhat natural to be looked upon with negativity to many people.
Yeah I see your point. It may be more beneficial for people with Southern Pride to wave the Bonnie Blue flag or the Stars and Bars. Still, I see the Confederate flag as something "up-for-debate". In other words, some people use it as a racist emblem, some as a sign of rebellion, and others as a sign of Southern heritage, I don't think it's firmly been established that it solely stands for Racism. If that day comes, I'll definitely start waving the Bonnie Blue, or Stars and Bars.
I also see why people could dislike the flag. Like thousands of others my family name died under it. It will fly with the American flag every memorial day in my yard. To hell what anybody else thinks.
Revampious why must you give us a lesson of european history? Because of his one or two sentences he used in a video that may not be 100 percent accurate? But still make valid since. Im a American History major and i find the vid to be very interesting. And i didnt have to copy any paste one thing because im not trying to sound like a smart ass. Good vid cowboy
48: actually I C&Ped precisely nothing. If you doubt my word {understandable, as I am a stranger to you} then just shove some pieces verbatim into a search engine and see if anything else comes up.
I must give you a lesson on European history as the claim was entirely untruthful and no matter -how- isolationist you are to know that there has not been a millenia long war between the Scots, Irish, "West English" {whoever -they- are} and Vikings & Anglo Saxons is pretty useful stuff to know.
-Uh...1000 years of way that the Civil War was a continuation of? Ok...I really have -no- idea where to start this one. Firstly, it may have escaped your attention but Denmark, Mercia, Northumbria and East Anglia have NOT been engaged in warfare with West Saxony, Ireland and Scotland for the past millenia.
No vulgarity or foul language please. I had to delete your first comment because of it. Let me simplify this down. The folks that settled down South were mainly descendants of the "Kings" men, while in the North most of the settlers were descendants of those who opposed the King..

Another lie told by liberals is that slaves were captured by whites hiding in bushes in Africa, but the truth is, that most of the slaves were captured by other african tribes through military conquest, and then sold off to the highest bidder.
xtremejohnny69 10 months ago

But bad labor conditions in the north will never make the crimes of slavery any better.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 60-80% of slaves would differ with you on that point.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
@cowboy4ev2 I don't know about that. Listen to the audio recordings made in the 1930s of former slaves. I recall the one who said he would kill himself before he would ever be a slave again.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 They're called the slave narratives and the vast majority of them had nothing negative to say about the institution. In fact, many were grateful for it because it gave them a chance to come to America (anyone want to be in Africa right now?) and learn the Gospel, not to mention most slave masters treated their slaves very well. Tocqueville and other foreign observers do a better job than I of getting that across. Go to therisingseed(dot)blogspot(dot)com I've written on it there.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
@cowboy4ev2 No, I do know my stuff. I'm a historian with a college degree and I've studied this subject all of my life. I've read the slave narratives of Frederick Douglass, Wallace Turnage and John Washington. They know more about what it was to be an American slave than we ever will.
I never said all white southerners were evil people. But I'm not going to look at history through the revisionist, PC views you do. Again, if slavery was so great, have your wife be someone's slave.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 I having a very hard time believing your a historian when you create straw men, beg the question, and belittle people who disagree with you. My undergrad is in history, but to be perfectly honest I got indoctrinated to a Northern view in my classes. I haven't said anything about slavery being "positive." There were some horrible aspects to slavery in our country (i.e. man capture and racism).
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago

bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 The North captured them (the cruelest part was the middle passage which was done by Northerners), The South bought them, and most of them still had a better life in slavery than they do as civil slaves to the government currently. Yet the South is the scape-goat of the nation. It's highly hypocritical and dishonest to crucify the south for something every nation participated in. And saying my views are PC is weird. You're the one with the Politically Correct view.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
@cowboy4ev2 Regardless of who caught who, it doesn't matter. Was anyone ever forced to buy a slave and participate in the institution?
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 That's just a weird claim to make. Verifying in my mind that you must not have spent a lot of time in college, or you'd know the professors favor your view. Regarding my wife. I'd love for my wife and I to both be slaves of a good master. Slavery is as good or as bad as the man who's in charge. I'm a slave of Christ, as the Bible says. The institution of slavery isn't wrong (there's a biblical model for it...although abused in our country), but mankind can be wrong.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
@cowboy4ev2 I have freedom in Christ, He set me free a long time ago when I asked Him into my life. And "abused in our country;" "man-capture and racism" is all I wanted to hear you admit, rather than sugar-coat the truth.
I'm sorry if I said things that were disrespectful. But please- don't minimize an institution that was a crime against humanity. I don't know anybody wanting to be a slave to someone else regardless of the circumstances.
bryanac625 1 year ago
If slavery really wasn't that bad, why don't you become one? Or have your wife and kids enslaved somewhere? Who in the south was an abolitionist in 1861? If they hated slavery so much, why didn't they do more to stop it? Jefferson Davis: "We recognize the negro as God tells us to recognize him-our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude" doesn't sound like a hatred of slavery and white supremacy to me.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 With all do respect you need to read a lot more on the history of slavery. Study how Jefferson Davis treated and freed his slaves. His views were very mild compared to the common thought of the day (just read Lincoln!). Read the Confederate Constitution and what it had to say about slavery. I don't know where you've gotten your information, but it's definitely been extremely one sided.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
@cowboy4ev2 Your is also one-sided. Allowing slaves to name themselves and taking their own food is nice, but saying Gods want me to call people inferior while president doesn't cut it. Bottom line- what did Davis do to end slavery and enfranchise blacks into society? And the Confederate Constitution said that no state could join the CSA unless it was a slave state.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 I never said what privileges the slaves had. You're putting words in my mouth. Davis freed his own slaves, was president of a nation which outlawed the slave trade and made the federal government incapable of stopping the institution from being outlawed (in contrast to the U.S.), and towards the end of the war had a plan for freeing slaves on the basis of their willingness to fight for the confederacy (Lee's plan). Read the Confederate Constitution again, it doesn't say that.
cowboy4ev2 1 year ago
In all the years I've studied American history, I have yet to read about a free, northern black family that ran away from the north to live in the south. But someday on the internet, I'm sure I will.
bryanac625 1 year ago
@bryanac625 1. Underground Railroad ended in Canada because most Northern States either denied civil liberties, or didn't grant at all residence to blacks. 2. There weren't enough blacks in the North to "escape" to the South. They had already been sold by the Northerners (look up population stats). 3. There were many free-blacks in the South who were very successful. Look up Gullah Tours.

Hey dick, that question was design by the left in order to try to hurt the republican party just like most of the questions they asked.
Its a loaded political question design to divide and there is no way to answer that without committing political suicide.
Why don't you ease up a little and focus your effort on people who actually go out of their way to hurt your cause rather than try to bash someone who was given a loaded question.

cowboy4ev2 3 years ago
you cited none of you information on how the "democrats are dividing and tearing us down by using the media to make us beleive lies regarding our nations history, the flag is used by them to make them as a tool to insight racial hatred towards southerners." that is all an outragous opinion by you based off of a luney conspiracy of the democrats secretly planning to make the north hate the south.. that is rediculous and anyone in their right minds knows it.
GilyMac 3 years ago
well i guess nobody said southerners ever started with a right state of mind... and the way you say the "war of northern agression" makes me laugh.

Why waste any time citing sources if you're just going to ignore them.
I've wasted enough energy on you.

Flession 3 years ago
personally i dont care about abortion.. i would never have one but I think you have to be a moron to vote republican just for the whole "prolife" thing.. which is a load of crap because democrats are more christian because they care about what happens to the child after it pops out of the mom, and they actually DO something to try and reduce the number of abortions needed, the republicans are against contraceptives... people with little IQ, like many ppl i know, have gotten suckered by this BS.

one thing that i dnt understand about u "evangelical" pussies is y in the world u r republican?? i mean u claim to live by the good book and yet u vote for a party that only cares about the wealthiest 10% of americans, and tries to elimintate all socialized programs that give relief to ppl that need it..

To respond what I could understand:
8 out of the 10 richest US Senators are Democrats.
Majority of the Fortune 500 companies donated to a Democrat.
Exxon has given more money to Obama than McCain.
The Bible does say that. However, I don't see the Bible saying the Government has to be obligated to help the poor. It should be done thru families, the people, the Church, and as a last resort, the Government.
Which I have given a year of my life to help the poor. Can you say the same?
Flession 3 years ago
actually it is 7/10 senators, but that doesnt really matter when they are against bush-mccain tax breaks for the wealthy, and are for tax breaks for families that actually need them.. and "McCain has received three times more money from the oil industry in general - $1.3 million for McCain compared to approximately $394,000 for Obama", and yes the bible may not say that however anyone that cares about the well being of all man would be for socialized programs that help people in need..
GilyMac 3 years ago
because churches in general are not helping anywhere near enough people in this country, even though some are trying their best.. all im saying is that if you are not in the richest 10% of the population why would anyone vote for such a selfish, fear mongering, full of shit party?
GilyMac 3 years ago
There are tax breaks? Wealthy people make up for 40% of this nation's wealth. They get taxed plenty in our country. Also, don't forget that only 2% of them inherited their money.
The rest of the 98% earned their money. Usually those "rags to riches" type of story that we see constantly. And yes, they do donate to poverty. As well as pay more taxes than you could ever begin to understand. Are you saying they should be punished for their hard work because you can't make it like they could?
Flession 3 years ago
the republican party is making it harder for those rags-to-riches stories to happen..
GilyMac 3 years ago
mccain and the republican parties philosophy which has defined their party for over 25 years, finally got what they wanted in
"2001, when the Republicans finally gained control of both the White House and the Congress.
Then we saw what would happen to America if the policies they had talked about for decades actually were implemented. And look what happened.
GilyMac 3 years ago
They took us from record surpluses to an exploding debt; from over 22 million new jobs to just 5 million; from increasing working families' incomes to nearly $7,500 a year to a decline of more than $2,000 a year; from almost 8 million Americans lifted out of poverty to more than 5.5 million driven into poverty; and millions more losing their health insurance." ~bill clinton
GilyMac 3 years ago
they want you to think its all the republicans fault. the truth is republicans and democrats work together and are best friends behind closed doors. they are both evil scum who wish to take advantage of you.
It is best to refer back to the policies of Washington and Jefferson who said that political parties are a very bad thing and foreign intervention is horribly wrong.
803honda 2 years ago
I also love the fact you refer to the GOP as the Gay Ole Party and then comment about how we push our Anti-Gay agenda. We just don't want them to marry: we don't actually hate them.
You use Gay in such a derogatorily manner, as if something was wrong with that lifestyle choice. Very interesting...
I vote Republican (which I am doing so this year with 3 shots of Vodka) because I believe in lower taxes, limited government, and wish to see the removal of the nanny state that Dems have put us in.
Flession 3 years ago
I also love the fact you try to push the Mainstream Media is somehow Conservative. Where have I been?
You're telling me that the praise and blessings to Obama I read in the New York Times every so often, as well from the lips of the Associated Press, CNN, MSNBC, etc are all Conservative?
They pull the masquerade very well...
Anyways, to pull this back on topic, I do agree that the Southern flag has been used in racial terms, however, the Swastika didn't always represent the Nazi's either.
Flession 3 years ago
the mainstream media is not conservative or liberal...

Which was great...until he started spending all that income on such useless programs (Remember Midnight Baksetball? Do you really wanna know how much that cost?!) The problem is that everyone has been indoctrinated into a city workers mentality as I like to call it. Help out the boss and he gives you the cash you need to buy food etc. People forget that going agricultural is out there. Leave the city find some land and grow your own food, hunt, etc. Nothing like doing for yourself and being completely independent. You can always open your own business too. You don't have to work for somebody else.

What about the fact that 95% to 97% of all Southern troops never owned slaves they were to poor. Yet Grant did the whole duration of the war. How can they fight for somethin they dont even have. Yeah its really about race and slavery. Wow
Joseph565112 3 years ago
My ancestors fought in the Civil War, and I can provably show that not one of my family members ever owned a slave, starting from John Adams onward.
Adams, being a staunch anti-slaver, passed that on to his son, John Quincy Adams, (the guy Anthony Hopkins played in Amistad), moving on from there, and so on and so forth. They ended up being screwed over by the constant tariffs from the North so that's why they chose to fight.
Flession 3 years ago
Mine fought as well and they also owned no slaves. Like many they were to poor to own slaves therefore they were also to poor to afford the immense overtaxation by the Federal government. People just like to be ignorant and believe everyone in the South owned slaves or at least the majority. Well the truth is quite the contrary. Almost zero Confederate soldiers owned them. They never would either they were far to poor. Then again most are to ignorant to care about the truth. Doesnt suprise me.
Joseph565112 3 years ago
Anyone that says the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and slavery should call into question their very existence. If you really believe that you clearly learned nothin in highschool or college. Ok you can call it that but then what is the Stars and Stripes? Way worse thats what. When those slaves came in what flag was flyin? what about when 1000s of Native Americans were slaughtered. Yeah thats right. The STARS AND STRIPES.What about in the 1950s and 60s yea the Stars and Stripes.

Also, btw just like you my people too are from Mississippi, in the delta, and I beg to differ on the contemporary social meaning of that battle flag.
olakunde 3 years ago
Very historically accurate and articulate argument, but you KNOW what that flag really means to people nowadays. You know that nothing positive is meant behind the people who fly that flag. And I don't know about you (I have a guess) But I'm glad the north won and preserved our great union. The one thing the North and Washington DID fuck up is reconstruction tho. If they didn't pussy out, white southerners wouldn't be as bitter as they still are today.
olakunde 3 years ago
In all honesty...I keep hearing that people use it as a racist symbol, but I've never in my whole life met anyone who has. Everyone I know who flies/respects that flag isn't racist. My family comes from Mississippi, so if it did stand for racism I'd know about it I think. You're right the North preserved the union, but at what cost? All the men who died? The economically obliterated south? The slaves who were suddenly released and had nowhere to go? I think the cost outweighs the benefits.
cowboy4ev2 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure those slaves would have rather had no place to go and not been slaves, than to be enslaved man; and your right that the south was economically obliterated, but that could have been remedied if the North had stuck to it's guns and remained committed to it's reconstruction. And of course people died, it was war. Sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in.
olakunde 3 years ago

By my personal experience and that of my peers, I've learned that the vast MAJORITY of the supporters of this flag ARE prejudice towards race, regardless of the history of this flag.
dariusdmj 3 years ago
I haven't encountered that in my experience...but while we're on the subject, the American flag itself is used by the neo-nazi party and KKK, (who also use the cross of Jesus)...so just because a group misuses something, doesn't make it wrong.

And last, to say that slaves in the south were treated humanely and better than European factory workers is the most pathetic and laughable thing I have heard. When you get whipped, starved, sold to other masters, and have you family broken up, slave wages in factories seems a lot better.
Doc418 4 years ago
I'll try to keep this as short as I can. First of all, I'm not a libertarian, I'm a strict constitutionalist. Some would call me a states rights conservative. The secession was perfectly legal, without going into a lot of detail, I suggest you read the constitutional resolutions of Virginia and New York especially. The stats I mentioned about the slaves are true, they actually were healthier than whites in the North and south. I got that info from a U.S. census. What's your source?
cowboy4ev2 4 years ago
I have read the New York and Virginia Constitutional resolutions, and they bear no Constitutional meaning towards the Constitution. Second, I know you are a states rights man, you believe the states can do whatever they want with the people, hence, you are party an authoritarian in that regard. Your stats about slaves are complete nonsense. My source is McPherson's battle cry of freedom and Shelby Foote oddly enough.
Doc418 4 years ago
The ratification documents were the terms upon which each state ratified the Constitution. Of course they have an incredible amount of weight and bearing on Constitutional Interpretation. I don't think you know what a true states rights person is. Read the 10th amendment and find out please. And my stats are from the U.S. government. I haven't actually read "Battle Cry of Freedom" and "Shelby Foote" nor do I desire to. The reviews I've read from the historically literate show the Northern bias.
cowboy4ev2 4 years ago
No, the New York and Virginia resolutions, like the Kentucky/Virginia ones have no constitutional meaning. Rufus King views of the matter from the Philadelphia Convention is worth reading. 2nd, I have read the 10th amendment and it confers no right to states, only powers not delegated. States rights is used as a pretext to violate the rights of people, most notably African American citizens.
Doc418 4 years ago
I don't doubt it. King was a Federalist, that makes sense. But all king has is an opinion, I stand on precedent. Precedent has bearing on actual, opinion doesn't have any bearing. The 10th amendment says, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Now how about understanding that in plain English.
cowboy4ev2 4 years ago
And the 10th amendment doesn't give any state the right of secession, to say so would mean that the Federal Government denied itself that very which sounds ridiculous to say th least. The 10th amendment justify southern secession either which was really an act of rebellion, (rebellion against the government for exercising its powers under article 1 clause 8) and more importantly seceding to protect the institution of Slavery, Alexander Stephen's Cornerstone speech makes this clear.
Doc418 4 years ago

Fourth, the reason why the Confederate officers were not charged with treason, is not because there wasn't a legal means to do it, they committed treason after all. they weren't charged with treason because of something Lincoln said, "malice towards none". No one is discriminating against southerners, what people are discriminating against is the apologist and false use of History that you used.
Doc418 4 years ago
3rd secession should be legal when the government, state or federal violates the rights of the people. The south on the other hand was not being oppressed, they were doing the oppression and seceded to promote the oppression. As a Libertarian, our government has indeed operated beyond constitutonal means, but so have the state governments, Yet I bet you believe the States should have the power to rule over our lives, like a typical Doughface..
Doc418 4 years ago
The South "Not being oppressed" is not for you to say. This is nothing but your "Opinion" Not a fact of history. Your post has a lot of your opinions..The South Succeed from the Union. Without fireing a shot! The Federal Army marching down to invade the Southland is what started the war.
But I still get a kick of reading some of the Silly things that you post.
meetman3 4 years ago
Fort Sumter was not firing a shot after secession but it was firing a shot, and no, it isn't an opinion I'm stating, the South was not being oppressed, they were the ones doing the oppression and seceded to keep the oppression ongoing.
Doc418 4 years ago
Please explain just how you can say that the South was not being oppressed? What are you going by? Can you say that the man next door is not being oppressed? That is up to the people of the South to make that call. Do you feel that the taking of Fort Sumter was wrong? Any worse that the American Army taking the British forts? I really dont think that you can tell me anything that the Confederate Flag is guilty of that the US Flag is not. If you can please let me know....I cant find a thing
meetman3 4 years ago
To be oppressed is to be denied liberty. What liberty was the South being denied? non. It had all the liberties it wanted. Now if you complained that the south was being taxed, sorry but that's not oppression that is Congress exercising its taxing power under Article 1 section 8. The fact is, the South seceded to keep the institution of slavery alive. Alexander Stephen's Cornerstone Speech as I have said before expresses the shameless pathetic thing called the Confederacy.
Doc418 4 years ago
You once again have given me the meaning of what oppression means to you. You can not make that call for anyone else. Thinking like that is what causes wars and conflicts in the first place. You dont know what makes me happy, sad , sick or what oppresses me at all. AS far as Alexander Stephens speech calling for Slavery...is that any worse than the United States Congress passing a admendment to the Constitution that would allow the South to have Slavery as long as it wished? Hypocrisy!
meetman3 4 years ago
It is hypocrisy, it is also hypocrisy to say that the confederacy was being oppressed when they kept individuals in bondage. The reason you don't understand what oppressed means and thinks I'm giving you my opinion, is simple, you just don't understand what freedom is. Like the person who made this video, you thrive on virulent ignorance.
Doc418 4 years ago

meetman3 4 years ago
The South lacked representation. At the time, the Congress was under Free State control and, though the South paid it's taxes, the Northern politicians were calling the shots. Taxation without representation. Taxes are not evil, but taxes used to hire soldiers to kill you after you pay them ARE. The South was not going to take orders from corrupt industrialists, and NEITHER WOULD I. Yes, the Confederacy should NEVER have started the war, and if there was one, the South should have finished it.
howmuchwoodcana 3 years ago
Actually the North started it. Not all the southern states withdrew at once. After the initial battle at FT. Sumter, then the majority of the other Southern states seceded to defend their states against Federal troops.
cowboy4ev2 3 years ago
The attack on Fort Sumter was uncalled for. Don't get me wrong, I'm a proud Southerner, but the attack on Fort Sumter gave the Northern Republicans a case for war. Otherwise, the Republicans could only grit their teeth as the South formed a separate, prosperous country, and if the North invaded and the South fought ONLY a defensive war, Britain and France would support Dixie and she would have won her independence.
howmuchwoodcana 3 years ago
Here's the thing though...if you research the maryland riots which preceded ft. sumter, you'll find that when Lincoln declared martial law over maryland (so it wouldn't secede) the first shots of the war were fired. Also, Ft. Sumter was provoked. It was a Federal fort in enemy territory, and was given ample opportunity to surrender. While they said they'd evacuate the fort, instead Lincoln sent reinforcements. This is what caused the battle. And yes, it was used as justification.
cowboy4ev2 3 years ago
I posted this a long time ago. I did a presentation on the confederate flag and found exactly what you have stated, the fort should have been evacuated. Sorry for what I said before, but I was not yet fully free of the lies that have been spread of our brave Confederacy. I further found that Lincoln used the abolition of slavery as an excuse to keep the war going and make the industrialists even more rich, showing that one of the "great" president's in our history was a corrupt, evil liar.
howmuchwoodcana 3 years ago
This is a pretty flawed video as well, first, The confederacy seceded from the union to protect slavery, Not to fight taxes or "secular humanism", I think you should read Cornerstone speech by Alexander Stephens. 2nd, Virginia and Kentucky resolutions have little meaning in Constitutional law. No state can legally nullify the laws of the Federal government, and since James Madison, author of one of the resolutions, renounced nullification later in life, puts nullification at an end.
Doc418 4 years ago
Funny spin, I stopped watching after the first few minutes. The First National Flag that you displayed was replaced by the Second National Flag which is the more recognizable confederate flag "the stainless banner". It was, as you said, also used as the naval ensign, but that was not its sole purpose as you attempted to suggest. I imagine the rest of your bit follows the same pattern along with your sources.

You are arguing that slaves lived in an unsegregated and healthy society. f the south won the civil war, then there would probably be 2 Americas. Slavery would have been phased out between 1890-1920 when it became obsolete because of machinery, but it would not have been BANNED until the late 1950s-1960s...infact, CSA may have been segregated until around the apartheid movement in south africa. the confederate flag has no place in American society.
stoneecold23 4 years ago

The fact of the matter is that the flag has gradually taken on a racist connotation throughout the years.
nasera24 4 years ago
(Second Post)
For example, let us take the N word for a moment. The early usage of the word was derived from word "negro," which means black in Spanish and Portuguese. So, in the United States, the early meaning of the word was only to describe black or dark skinned people. However, we can all agree that the word has taken on a whole different meaning since its conception.
nasera24 4 years ago
(Third Post)
You make a very good argument Cowboy, but I can only agree with you to an extent. The symbolism of the confederate flag has evolved throughout the years. Therefore, it is somewhat natural to be looked upon with negativity to many people.
nasera24 4 years ago

Sorry, but no. Has not been happening.

No vulgarity or foul language please. I had to delete your first comment because of it. Let me simplify this down. The folks that settled down South were mainly descendants of the "Kings" men, while in the North most of the settlers were descendants of those who opposed the King..
