I did this climb in 2010 in a 1 litre Toyota Yaris and had no trouble with the climb...just make sure you use the first and second gears a lot!
My wife wanted to get out on the really tight corners and especially when we came across a 4 x 4 on one of the bends and we were on the outside on the steep bend.

Omg =D just got back from lake district on went on this in the car, grandmas scared of heights so she was satin the front seat crying her eyes out when we were going at 10mph, I was laughing and found it funny, and also enjoyed the tight corners
I did this from the east coast to langdale for the first time in may, I never new it even existed till I went over it on my yamaha Fz1000, what a ride and what a view and boy you need to be focused. What a road
Nice video, was on Hardknott pass yesterday. A poor driver had gone over the side, car wrecked. I hope they was ok..... It's a dangerous road, you have to be careful!
been over it twice, 25 years ago cycling, and last Friday 2 up on my XJ900...definately easier last week.. Shame the sheer steepness of the climb does not come across on film
Happy memories of driving this pass in the english version of a Holden Commodore...flipping sheep gave us white knuckle moments but it's a great drive/ride!
I once did this in a refridgerated luton box van.... wheel spin moving backwards is NEVER a fun thing.... the clutch smelt a little hot too.... rental vans are the best for this ... LMAO
Drove this last Wednesday night on our way to Eskdale youth hostel, the most intense drive of my life!
Try doing it in a fully laden 9 seater mini bus, whilst its raining, in the dark and with very low visibility due to fog... the sheep standing in the road didn't help much either!
You're all lucky, unfortunately i came across this climb with my dad whilst cycling in the lake district, im only 14. my biike had lots of gears though (27) so i was ok...
A load of us just did this in a convoy of FIAT Cinquecento/Seicento's, was great fun, and surprisingly easy for the little go-karts! Although, we had a new 500 with us as well and it 'cocked a leg' on the corner @ 4 minutes ;)
I've traversed this one in numerous cars over the years and never had a problem (even at night in a gale and torrential rain), until last Sunday, in heavy rain my Toyota Prius refused to go round that corner at 4 mins (travelling in the opposite direction, east from Eskdale). You can't override the traction control, and it just wouldn't allow the wheels to move. Eventually succeeded on the third try. I wouldn't dare attempt it in icy conditions, not even in a 4x4.
I took the kids over there last week, in a ten year old Daewoo Lanos. Never again! We must have driven 30 miles extra to avoid going back that way! The road was wet, and there was far too much traffic.
I'd love to do it on a motorbike, early morning like you did.
Great film RodTipp- five of us did this run yesterday in the pissing rain, on Honda C90s. Daylight this way, a brew at Wasdale Head then back over in the dark & mist with 25w candles. Great fun!
I did this last weekend in my BMW in the dark!

Icy Conditions ?
Mate I went on it on my 4x4 on a hot sunny day and trust me I won't attempt to do it again unless I am fed up of this world. Gosh !!
After each bend I thought its gonna end but it never did.

And yes, the corner/slope at 4 mins is the worst.
Nice vid though, cheers
