@NightKidd666 I've posted a link for a windows 7 driver in the description already, but you should check if it's right for your sound card. What kind of sound card do you have?
@gangsta97943 it's not necessarily a bad thing to downgrade your sound driver. If I were you, I'd officially uninstall your current soundmax drivers and then install the old version that I posted. They may have removed "stereo mix record" in the newer drivers. If it doesn't work then just reinstall the newer drivers.
For those of you that tried this with windows 7 and it still didn't work try this. Go to the control panel ->Device manager -> click on Sound, video, and game controllers -> click on your audio driver and another window should open. Now go to the "Driver" tab and click update driver. Click "search automatically". It should download/install the driver automatically. Reboot after it's done & u shud get stereo mix. If this worked for u plz thumbs up my comment so others can see it. Hope I helped!!!
It's not working for me i have windows 7 32 bit. When I try to run the setup an error message pops up saying my computer isn't compatible. Any other workarounds?
If you're using SPDIF Output to a receiver this wont work. Switch over to speakers then recording will work, but you wont be able to hear what you're recording.
Didn't work - but im using an external usb soundcard as the original one is fucked. Soundblaster 16 is what it comes up as, and im running XP on a VM under vista ultimate (doesn't work on vista either).
I'm wondering if this an attempt to stop copyright violations, it's a fucking nuisance. I'm using camtasia to record the screen but no sound as no stereo mixer!
I want the Mic to be in the PlayBack but the only problem is that The Sterio mix and the Mic is on Record so I have to choice between the options, but It only gives me 1 choice, Mic or Sterio mix D;, What do I have to do to get the mic on PlayBack?
@evilsoshi You want to hear the mic through the speakers, right? The following process is the same thing as enabling the mic as a playback device. Here's the instructions for Windows 7 (it's available in XP and Vista, just a different way of navigating).
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound
Select the tab: Recording > right-click Microphone > Properties
Select the tab: Listen > check the box "Listen to this device"
I'd use headphones to prevent a feedback loop. Hope this helps. :)
@Kylork I Have xp, But i did look at the sound options and ETC, but How do I get THAT ur using at 1:30? I only got the windows slect that just refuse to let me change on anything-
@evilsoshi All the devices you see at 1:30 are recordable (not playback). And the interface I'm running at 1:30 is specific to SoundMAX drivers. Otherwise, if you have a SoundMAX soundcard I'd recommend installing the above drivers.
Maybe I don't understand you question. When you say that you want the Mic on playback, to ME that means that you want your voice to immediately play through the speakers, which allows for the Mic and Stereo Mix to be recorded at the same time.
@Kylork But thats what I want to have to recording my Lets plays, Also I have version 5.2 I get just a little mic choice, but not the cool things you've got.
1. If you have a SoundMAX soundcard then install the above drivers.
2. This may or may not give u the cool interface that I have, but I got my cool interface from the above driver because my soundcard was compatible with it.
3. If your soundcard is not compatible with it then game over. The best way to find out is to try installing it.
The instructions I gave you in my previous posts were to help give u a work around since u probably won't be able to get it.
@REPCI777 From what I've read it probably won't work, but it will not hurt to try. Download the link I provided above with this description "SoundMAX Vista/7 32/64bit drivers:".
@luiswega No, Realtek is a different company and so contains different hardware and firmware and thus requires different drivers. There are many different Realtek soundcards. Some have stereo mix and some do not. Your best bet is looking up the latest drivers for the soundcard on your mobo and installing it. Then navigating to the recording tab, right-clicking, and choosing the "Show Disabled Devices" option. This sometimes reveals the hidden Stereo Mix" option.

@StraightEdgeReviews You can't record you voice through the microphone AND record what your PC is playing at the same time AND have it be clear sounding.

@Bullsh0t1 That's why I archived the same file on my own webpage right below it. Notice it says, "If that doesn't work, here's another link I archived myself:" It's the identical file. And the Vista driver works for Windows 7 as well.
not sure if you can help me, I have a P5NSLI motherboard and a Geforce 260 card. I installed the SPDIF cable from the motherboard to the card and I can't get the card to work for nothing. I followed the nvidia instructions online (last 2 pins are spdif/ground) and still can't get sounds. I keep seeing realtek and setting an HDMI option but I can't get the realtek drivers to work. Only thing that is installing is Soundmax which seems to have limited options, HELP !
@johnnyxsi You motherboard only uses the SoundMAX driver. Aside from that your problem is common. I recommend that you test your audio through the standard speaker output. From here I'm not experienced with your specific problem so I'm going to quote something I read on a forum, "Connect the S/PDIF Cable that came with the Video Card one end to Video Card the other end to S/PDIF OUT on your motherboard. In your sound control settings enable your Video Card as primary device."
@Kylork thanks for you reply. I'm just happy you verified its a soundmax. Now I'm trying to find the lastest version of the driver. When I try to install, it give me an error. @SRMTHFGLover1 First you must check if you sound card really is Sound MAX. If it is, then download the proper driver which I have provided. If it's not, then first read through the other comments along with the relies I've given. I don't mind helping, I just didn't understand your question. It looks like you got cut off mid sentence. :)
@622stephen First you must already be running a SoundMax soundcard. If you are, then refer to the links in the the description of this video. Also, research the make and model of your computer (or your motherboard) to find if it supports stereo mix.
@ShadowthePast Which means you soundcard hardware isn't SoundMAX.
Tell me the make (ex. HP, Dell, Toshiba...) and model (ex. a2561z, Dimension 2400, Satellite a3022-49) of your computer. I'll tell you if there's a simple solution.
Meanwhile, watch my video called "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix", this has fixed 2 of the computers that i've owed.
@Kylork Oh and my soundcard is SoundMAX. It says "SoundMAX Digital Audio." However I do have another device which is for my Logitech USB Headset, but I can't update that driver or my headphones will flat out not work.
Also, SoundMAX under the recording option does have a Wave Out Mix option, which I heard is the same as Stereo Mix. However, clicking it does nothing.
@ShadowthePast It's easy to get confused with the options, even if you do get stereo mix enabled. What software are you using to record stereo mix? A good simple tool to use to test if stereo mix works is "Sound Recorder". It's part of all versions of Windows under Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Sound Recorder. Select Edit> Audio Properties. Select your sound card for your playback device as well as your recording device. Then fiddle with the volumes if you need to.
@Wathyreckk That's because you probably don't have a SoundMAX sound card. If your computer is retail (such as Dell, HP, Gateway, Sony etc.), then google the specific model for sound drivers. If it was custom built, google the motherboard for drivers. Let me know if you need further assistance.
@Kylork ok...but when I go to the audio properties it says there my mixer device is SoundMax Audio HD, and the only recording input is microphone. I use lenovo, so do I just download its drivers for audio, or do I need to custom install a stereo mix?
@Wathyreckk Did you right-click and select "Show disabled devices" ? If so, can you tell me the specific model of your Lenovo computer? I'll help you find the driver. But there's a good chance it won't support stereo mix. Due to DRM, manufactures have had to limit that option. Sometimes a registry edit fixes it, and sometimes it requires buying a new $80 sound card.
@YOUTOOB1912 Yes, but you first need to check your sounds card type. If it's not SoundMax then watch my other video called "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix ". There's also lots of questions I've answered if you read my responses to other people.
i just bought a windows7, on my realtek HD audio manager, dont seem to have a stereo recorder, do you have a link where i can go it from?..or how do i make it work? thanks
@strangervang First thing I would do is google the make and model of your computer to find the official website where your drivers are being held. If installing the updated drivers doesn't work there are other options that involve editing a few numbers in a driver file, like the .inf file. There's sometimes fixes that require you to edit a number in a registry file. But if non of that works for you, there are software work-arounds like Total Recorder and Virtual Audio Cable.
@muzikbabe12345 OK, all you have to do is create an empty foler (anywhere on your computer) and move all the files from the ZIP folder into the new folder you just created. Now double-click the "setup" file.
@TheMrNitram Hello Nitram, I might be able to fix both problems. Yes, stereo mix recording is very sensitive in SoundMax, that's why, in the video, I say to lower your Stereo Mix volume in recordable devices to about 4% and also raise your Playback: Wave volume to 100%. If that doesn't work, just keep re-adjusting the stereo mix volume. I know it's hard to get rid of the distortion, but once you get the adjustment right just don't change it again.
@TheMrNitram Also, to record your headset while recording in stereo mix, you'll need to turn on a property in your microphone option which allows you microphone to play through your speakers. This means that your microphone is now being channeled through stereo mix and will likewise be recorded.
well, here's the official sound driver for your computer: ftp.dell. com/audio/R164900.EXE
(remove the spaces beteween dell. and com)
If that doesn't enable Stereo Mix for recording, right-click on the volume on the Start bar and click Recording Devices. In this window right-click somewhere and select "Show disabled devices". If Stereo Mix appears on the list, enable it. I have a video showing how to do this called "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix".
I'd like to know if you know anything about them because i haven't been able to find anything about them. I am currently trying to use stereo mix on it but even with it activated and set as default device it picks up no sound.
well, if you can take off the side of ur computer and give me some numbers on the motherboard that might help. Give a few of the diff combinations of #s you see.
Nah sorry i dont wanna do that. Thanx any way. All i wanted to do was be able to configure the Mic Volume and Stereo Mix in my Recording Control but the slider is greyed out. I use Realtek HD Audio Input
OK, that helps to know that you use Realtek. This means that you definitely cannot use SoundMAX as it is contradictory to your hardware. However I did make a video pointing out how one might enable a the stereo mix option called: "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix". That might help.
Try going to your control panel, clicking Sounds and Audio Devices, and click the audio tab. Switch the Sound Recording device to your soundcard. That worked for me, after I installed the drivers.
It's 2 rar files, I had to separate 1 file into 2 because google has a file size limit. So download both files and then extract the one, which really extracts them both.
I reinstalled windows and everything on my comp.. thing is i cant get the SoundMAX control panel back with the effects and the mic settings.. how do i get it back?
wow, I installed the drivers for XP32bit from provided link and it actually works! All I have to do is turn the amplitude up in adobe audition and save to get louder file. But I can finally record!! Thanks a lot for posting this.
My machine refused to install this driver, claiming it is 'incompatible' Here however is a simpler solution: download a copy of your existing audio driver, backup the .inf file, then edit the file in notepad, search on 'stereo mix disable' (or something like it) and change the bit from 1 to 0
(or if it's 'enable' change from 0 to 1-- you get the point); then update the driver using your
modification (no need to first uninstall), restart your machine and you're done.
I didn't make this clear in the video, but this only works if your soundcard uses SoundMAX drivers. Give me the make and model of you PC and what version of Windows you're running, I'll see if I can help.
You said you tried every link? That's not good. Uninstall all the SoundMAX drivers that you can and then use my GOOGLE link in the video description on the right. Download the Windows XP 32-bit driver, unzip it, and install it. If that won't work, try googling the make a model of your PC from audio drivers. Google can solve many problems is used properly. However many soundcards simply DON'T support Stereo Mix. If that is the case then look up Virtual Audio Cable.
CRAP, I tryed to use the setup.exe but it said: this operating system doesn't support this software. Could you please show how to install so I know I'm doing it right!
Do you have Vista? If so, the Vista drivers DO work, I've tested them. If you have XP DON'T choose the 64-bit XP option. Aside from that MOST people don't have SoundMAX as their sound driver anyways. This ONLY works if you have SoundMAX already and need the Stereo Mix recordable device update. What kind of computer do you have? Make and model? And what version of Windows? Maybe I can help.
As I've said to many, the best thing to do is GOOGLE the make and model of your PC and search for your soundcard drivers. You likely aren't even running SoundMAX drivers anyway.
i have SoundMAX HD Audio sound card but when i try to run this installer, it says that "the audio files do not support your hardware"
what have i done wrong ? my sound card is "SoundMAX Intergated HD audio" and I tried myself to search for the driver updates and i couldn't find anything. I watched your previous video on showing the disabled drivers and stereo mix did NOT show up. i'm thinking my sound drivers are different, but that's unlikely
I have the stereo mix option for the SoundMAX Integrated Digitial HD Audio driver ver 5.10.1.6110 enabled but no output except for some light hissing, the advice to turn the output down to around 11% was a big help, on my other PC's the output was always at 100% in order to have a very good ouput but this behaves the opposite, excellent suggestion, the answer was right in front of me all this while, also was able to increase the out put to 30% w/ out probs, thanks again Kylork
hello brother i have the same problem the sound is bad i cant record correctly with fraps :( and besides my pc is MINI HP COMPAQ ds7001 can you help please? ^^
I recently reformatted my HP Laptop (nc8430) and this time I can only control stereo mix through windows sound controls. I don't even get the black control panel anymore, just microphone, power management, and general tabs that allow me to show the icon on the taskbar. Anyone know how to fix this?
thanks for the help.. but the installation gave me this error: "Drive Installation Failed: Could not find MEDIA device for this driver." Perhaps my driver doesn't support it
Control Panel> select "Classic View" (on the left)> select "Sound"> select the "Recording" tab> right-click on Microphone or Line In and select "Show Disabled Devices".
Do give this a try. Go to this video on youtube that I made. ---> "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix"
Also, if you have an HP, try typing this into google search "Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver hp vista sp40170.exe" (without the quotes). Then choose the very first link. Then download the driver. Let me know if it works.

ShadowthePast 1 year ago
@ShadowthePast It's easy to get confused with the options, even if you do get stereo mix enabled. What software are you using to record stereo mix? A good simple tool to use to test if stereo mix works is "Sound Recorder". It's part of all versions of Windows under Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Sound Recorder. Select Edit> Audio Properties. Select your sound card for your playback device as well as your recording device. Then fiddle with the volumes if you need to.

I made sure I downloaded the right one.
Wathyreckk 1 year ago
@Wathyreckk That's because you probably don't have a SoundMAX sound card. If your computer is retail (such as Dell, HP, Gateway, Sony etc.), then google the specific model for sound drivers. If it was custom built, google the motherboard for drivers. Let me know if you need further assistance.
Kylork 1 year ago
@Kylork ok...but when I go to the audio properties it says there my mixer device is SoundMax Audio HD, and the only recording input is microphone. I use lenovo, so do I just download its drivers for audio, or do I need to custom install a stereo mix?
Wathyreckk 1 year ago
@Wathyreckk Did you right-click and select "Show disabled devices" ? If so, can you tell me the specific model of your Lenovo computer? I'll help you find the driver. But there's a good chance it won't support stereo mix. Due to DRM, manufactures have had to limit that option. Sometimes a registry edit fixes it, and sometimes it requires buying a new $80 sound card.

YOUTOOB1912 1 year ago
@YOUTOOB1912 Yes, but you first need to check your sounds card type. If it's not SoundMax then watch my other video called "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix ". There's also lots of questions I've answered if you read my responses to other people.

i just bought a windows7, on my realtek HD audio manager, dont seem to have a stereo recorder, do you have a link where i can go it from?..or how do i make it work? thanks
strangervang 1 year ago
@strangervang First thing I would do is google the make and model of your computer to find the official website where your drivers are being held. If installing the updated drivers doesn't work there are other options that involve editing a few numbers in a driver file, like the .inf file. There's sometimes fixes that require you to edit a number in a registry file. But if non of that works for you, there are software work-arounds like Total Recorder and Virtual Audio Cable.
Kylork 1 year ago
@Kylork ok thanks much.

@muzikbabe12345 OK, all you have to do is create an empty foler (anywhere on your computer) and move all the files from the ZIP folder into the new folder you just created. Now double-click the "setup" file.

and i cant record my headset while recording the stereomix.
fricking soundmax
TheMrNitram 1 year ago
@TheMrNitram Hello Nitram, I might be able to fix both problems. Yes, stereo mix recording is very sensitive in SoundMax, that's why, in the video, I say to lower your Stereo Mix volume in recordable devices to about 4% and also raise your Playback: Wave volume to 100%. If that doesn't work, just keep re-adjusting the stereo mix volume. I know it's hard to get rid of the distortion, but once you get the adjustment right just don't change it again.
Kylork 1 year ago
@TheMrNitram Also, to record your headset while recording in stereo mix, you'll need to turn on a property in your microphone option which allows you microphone to play through your speakers. This means that your microphone is now being channeled through stereo mix and will likewise be recorded.

@Kylork argh xD

azzedine5161 1 year ago
well, here's the official sound driver for your computer: ftp.dell. com/audio/R164900.EXE

OK, that helps to know that you use Realtek. This means that you definitely cannot use SoundMAX as it is contradictory to your hardware. However I did make a video pointing out how one might enable a the stereo mix option called: "RealTek/SoundMAX Stereo Mix Record fix". That might help.

I just need to be able to record stereo mix... im on a 32 bit xp, but like... it doesnt have the option.
The program you have there, what is that? Could you pass me a link for it, THEN ill download the driver as you instructed in the vid? :)
BeatingNgSource 2 years ago
first see if u have SoundMAX drivers. If so, then this will help. If not, then it won't.
Kylork 2 years ago
Try going to your control panel, clicking Sounds and Audio Devices, and click the audio tab. Switch the Sound Recording device to your soundcard. That worked for me, after I installed the drivers.
MrJohnnyOldschool 2 years ago
But it's very possible that your PC just won't work with this. There is no fix-all.

It's 2 rar files, I had to separate 1 file into 2 because google has a file size limit. So download both files and then extract the one, which really extracts them both.

Kylork 2 years ago
I have sound max and my pc version is xp professionel
weliketogame 2 years ago
You said you tried every link? That's not good. Uninstall all the SoundMAX drivers that you can and then use my GOOGLE link in the video description on the right. Download the Windows XP 32-bit driver, unzip it, and install it. If that won't work, try googling the make a model of your PC from audio drivers. Google can solve many problems is used properly. However many soundcards simply DON'T support Stereo Mix. If that is the case then look up Virtual Audio Cable.
Kylork 2 years ago
ok thanks

CRAP, I tryed to use the setup.exe but it said: this operating system doesn't support this software. Could you please show how to install so I know I'm doing it right!
linkassassin360 2 years ago
Do you have Vista? If so, the Vista drivers DO work, I've tested them. If you have XP DON'T choose the 64-bit XP option. Aside from that MOST people don't have SoundMAX as their sound driver anyways. This ONLY works if you have SoundMAX already and need the Stereo Mix recordable device update. What kind of computer do you have? Make and model? And what version of Windows? Maybe I can help.
Kylork 2 years ago
It kind of works but i cant fix that scratchy noise for some reason I've put sound max to about 11 percent but it still does it....
scruffymanrules2009 2 years ago
Try lowering it to more like 4 or 5 percent, I've found that works better.
Kylork 2 years ago
my sound wont work like its gone helppp
Jade7000 2 years ago
As I've said to many, the best thing to do is GOOGLE the make and model of your PC and search for your soundcard drivers. You likely aren't even running SoundMAX drivers anyway.
Kylork 2 years ago
this is weird
i have SoundMAX HD Audio sound card but when i try to run this installer, it says that "the audio files do not support your hardware"
what have i done wrong ? my sound card is "SoundMAX Intergated HD audio" and I tried myself to search for the driver updates and i couldn't find anything. I watched your previous video on showing the disabled drivers and stereo mix did NOT show up. i'm thinking my sound drivers are different, but that's unlikely
thanks.
