  • Helen Kane is not - and NEVER was Betty Boop. Betty Boop was created by animator Grim Natwick and produced by Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures.

Betty's voice was performed by many women (never Helen Kane) , most notably by Mae Questel, who began in 1931 and continued with the role until her death in 1998.

In May of 1932, Kane filed a $250,000 suit against Paramount and Max Fleischer, creators of Betty Boop. Helen Kane lost the law suit after a trial lasting 2 years..

  • Hello.

I thought Helen to be a model of Betty Boop.

However, I heard your explanation and was able to know that it was a mistake.

I feel glad, and thank you!

    Best, Regards.

  • @apeek7 thanks for you information.

strangely enough the original voice of Betty Boop had just won a Helen Kane sound alike contest, so it would appear the Betty Boop creators probably couldn't afford Helen Kane and got the next best thing. Kinda sad given that and the fact stole Helen Kane's catch phrase of "boop boop a doop" as well, that she still managed to lose the lawsuit.

  • Easy to see how Betty Boop and Helen Kane are easily confused, but did Helen ever really do Betty's voice? I understood that to be Mae Questal.
