This is faaaar too intricate for such a simple task. This shouldn't be anything more than a simple cable and app. NOBODY should have to pay for anything or jailbreak anything. We just spent $300 on a new phone and I'll be damned if something this simple requires so much more money and/or legwork. Not even worth it until it's done properly and easily

The actual program apple uses is a paid app called Boinx TV. I know this b/c I have worked with it before, and the program includes an iphone sim layer. this program is made by the Coding Monkeys, and retails for $300 for the full version, and $150 for the ad-supported version. It is currently mac-only at post-date, and is used by apple for those keynotes.

I use veency with my first gen iphone to stream my music to it and control it via VNC from my mac or pc. I also use this method to VNC into my 3G Iphone when I am getting and sending text messages. This way I can have full control of my phone while using my mac.
