I bought the Novation MkII SL25 to control Logic Pro 9 and plug-ins. After installing Automap 3 software (free upgrade to pro), clicked link to Novation site, where I learned that the built-in AU Logic plug-ins can't be controlled with automap. No luck yet with supplied Novation BassStation. I've got Logic's mixer working with manual setup, but have to laugh b/c video says 'it couldn't be easier'--it could. Don't believe the hype--opinion right now is that it doesn't play well with Logic Pro 9.
The MIDI controller (keys and pitch/mod) work well, and the action on the keys is sweet. Automap just doesn't see the plug-ins in Logic. My saving grace is that AutoMap Pro 3 can learn keyboard shortcuts. I use more outboard gear than plug-ins anyway, so it's working out well. I just don't like that Logic AU plug-ins require manual programming. It was a disappointment, after all the Novation 'easy to use' hype. Logic has a ton of built-in plug-ins. Novation should be clearer on incompatibility.
I wasn't aware of this incompatibility. I ran a search in google "logic au novation automap" and the Novation Answerbase site was the first result. It stated that the Logic FX AU plugins are not standard AU and therefore will not automap however the instruments will.
Apparently Logic 9.01 supports Automap fully now. Try it out because I want a MkII 25SL for Logic's Plugs, an d want to hear from people who KNOW it really works. :)
FreeThought2007, thanks for the info. I just downloaded the 184MB update to LogicStudio 9.01. It ran flawlessly. When I booted up Logic, I created a few channel strips with various plug-ins. Everything's automapping for me and I am very happy. When you go to the synth or plug-in, the MkII switches over to 'INST' mode--moving knobs on the control surface/controller controls the plug-in's buttons. I gotta' say kudos to Apple for getting this update out! Sweet! Now I'm satisfied with my purchase.
BTW, the default automaps seem pretty good overall. Plus, the Automap (server) application automatically displays the focused plug-in name. Best: remapping the defaults is a breeze. With the plug-in open, just press the 'Learn' button on the MkII. Then touch a knob on the controller (they're touch sensitive), then -- in Logic -- in the plug-in window, just click & move the button you want that knob/slider mapped to. Yeah, I'm lovin' the SL25 and Automap. Logic 9.01 brings a smile to my face.
exactly...having the same problems... work with logic pro 8 on a mac...bassStation however does work well in logic...but all other plug- ins don't. really a bother having to move all the knobs in the plugin with your mouse... but i read that that's because apple does not give novation their prorammation details and therefore novation can't apply the automapping properly to logic..
i bought the SL49 too...and i regret too !! and the Automap it not work the way the advertise..i tried with Sonar 7 and 8 !! is more for Ableton Live ,that why they never show videos with sonar working with Automap !!
if you have Ableton Live it wrok ok , if you Sonar user, better try other controler !
Automap 3 will be released early this year. Novation is offering a pre-release beta for the new OS. There are a few bugs. I have tried the new OS out and it's a lot more fluid to work with. You can even use it as an HUI to control your daw.
I bought SL49 Compact with Automap and so far it seems as esoteric as ANY MIDI keyboard. I regret not buying the Xio synth for my simple MIDI needs. The X-Cite pack, as with many "bundles", includes mostly crippled flagship programs--for ex: Ableton Live "Lite". The Arturia Analog factory, however, is very usable. The Waldorf thing isn't. And,as implied, Automap is just as complex as any "template", which, for most hosts, you will use anyway. Keyboard is good, solid feel, nice LCD.
Automap is a joke. Esp with the SL 49 Compact.

you could still control it via midi?
Hopefully logic support will be refined within a respectable timeframe.

Baltar? I don't think so. Baltar looks like Jesus :-)
Bought today my first Novation Automap Device. The installation and mapping took about 2 minutes and all my plugs are mapped.
I love automap, it couldn't be easier
