I see all of your comment, and I can't believe what I'm reading. Do any of you not remember that this was the Soap Opera that was interrupted by Bulletins from the assassination and death of President John F. Kennedy?
@IstvanN1961 Considering that it has been almost 50 years since this Historically Important Event, I would be surprised to get at least ONE positive response from my comment. And I will be turning 49 in October. I can see your point.
Why won't CBS just air the first episode of As the World Turns. Proctor and Gamble Productions will be officially dead when the final episode airs in September. There is no point in disputing the first episode being aired on youtube if it came to be. Irna Phillips must be spinning in her grave. Her two hit shows are nothing. Guiding Light is gone, now As the World Turns.
@fatmanfiftythousand I doubt that. All television stations have to keep their pilot episodes for historical reasons. NBC kept the pilot episode of Days, ABC kept the pilot episode of General Hospital. So how could CBS lose the pilot episode of As the World Turns? I am pretty sure deep in the old school vaults, they still have the first episode. Let's hope CBS airs it on youtube someday.
@fatmanfiftythousand If CBS "wiped" the pilot episode, they wiped away history. At least give credit to NBC for keeping the Days pilot and ABC for keeping the General Hospital pilot. Wiping the pilot episode the biggest mistake a network can make, don't you think?
@AMEwrestling: The Days of Our Lives pilot (and every single episode) exists...they are stored in the same converted Utah salt mine the surviving Johnny Carson-era Tonight Show episodes are warehoused.
@AMEwrestling CBS made a ton of money from the daytime dramas but it always seemed to me that they were embarassed by their presence on the Paley-christended "Tiffany" network. When did abc get their first soap? That was when CBS started running promos. I worked 34 yrs for LIRR and Susan Lucci rode my train; couldn't act in my opinion---high camp
I honestly don't remember the opening theme ever having sounded quite this way! Charlie Paul had given me a copy of the handwritten score, and it's written, pretty much, the way he was playing it throughout the 1960s up until December 1973 when his orchestral version began to air. The next time I'm at the Paley Center for Media, I'll have to view the ATWT episodes from the 1950s to hear how the theme was being played. In the meantime, can anyone confirm this version as being authentic?
Yup - A SYNTESIZER IS NOT AN ORGAN. Considereing all the openings posted here, you think they would have gotten a decent one out of the archives. They could have used the color globe, since the Anniversary episodes were in color, and just overdubbed and cleaned up one of the real organ openings. With computers, they could have cleaned up the audio and edited out the voiceover for the day's sponsors. Shame on you - CBS and P&G!
I hope ATWT writers incorp. the oldest video they can find on the show when they wrap it up next September. When GL ended no one acted like there ever was a Berta or Papa Bauer,. Does anyone remember watching ATWT when Judge Cole was on? That is what I am talking about. Bring back the ghosts P&G/CBS show this generation what it was all about. Fade to black.
That is odd the current Global logo is on the top of the video.

@Jiltedin2007 Duh, some of us were too little to remember that. Most people weren't born yet.

I think that was the special opening when they celebrated their anniversary a few years ago.

"And now, for the next thirty minutes....'AS THE WORLD TURNS'".

@AMEwrestling It's called "wiping". And there is no requirement for any television network to keep any episodes, FTR. Never has been.

This is a lousy knock off of the real old open. It's not like they couldn't scrounge up the real music out of the archives....

Alright, this has the current CBS bug/logo in the bottom-left corner. So was this from some anniversary show aired in more recent years?
