Is there a reason why they can't wait for the mother to release the fry on her own? Will she just swallow them or something? She seemed to be really stressed afterward, but then recovered fairly quickly...

This Aquarama expo is to show the an eye opening of the public ,how the male brooder Arowana's incubate the cycle of eggs to larvae stage for 2 months ,and the skillful Arowana owner will pry open the male's brooder mouth to release the baby arowana with special care. .No worries :0)

There are a lot less stressful ways to get a female to release her brood. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets damage to her eyes and slime coat from when he grabbed her!

It's a male...not female. Male arowanas carry their young in the mouth.
