  • Great review. I especially liked the two screens where the microphone is shown on the left and you are talking on the right. Very helpful review on this product.

  • Hey there !

got a question., Some say this microphone records a lot of noise in combination with your Canon T2i/550D (i.e.) because of the audio settings the camera has.

I can't hear any massive noise on the clip but does anybody has bad experience with this Problem?

    Thanks.

  • Which dslr would be better to buy the nikon d3100 or the cannon 60d

  • @Nurds1231 Canon 60D. No doubt.

  • @Nurds1231 canon has a larger community. youre more likely to find tutorials and used hardware for canon dslr's than nikon. but of course for actually recording video, all canon cameras record at similar quality levels so dont spend too much on a higher-end one for video.

  • Does this video mic fit on top of the nikon d3100

  • @Nurds1231

The Nikon d3100 has only got a built in mic. So you can't put any other mic on it.

  • @SergeantAnus

Yes it fits on practically all dslr's

  • Does this Gideon

  • Very Nice Review. Five Stars *****

  • Proud to be Norwegian!

  • I have this mic! it's awesome if u want good audio get it!:)

  • is this mic stereo?

  • Great review. I love how the way you compared the two mics. it really showed how much better the rode's sound was compared to the built in mic unlike some of the other reviews out there.

  • best video mic review ever!!! awesome video sir

  • @SoldierKnowsBest I'm planning to shoot a short film very soon. I need a brand new mic. I've checked the RODE website and they have 3mics on for retail: The Rode VideoMic, The Rode VideoMic Pro & the Stereo VideoMic Pro. Which one should I buy and are these mics compatible with a Canon 60D?

  • @evilshreyas Depends on your budget and what type of filming you are going to do. The VideoMic and VideoMic Pro are shotgun mics and oly pic up the audio that it is pointing at. The Pro version is smaller lighter and has better sound quality. The stereo one picks up everything, in stereo...

  • Wat sup what products u use for the face?

  • @TheSandwichStudios It was the Canon t2i aka Canon EOS 550D

  • @TheSandwichStudios I highly guess. It works with any camera having a 3,5mm microphone input.

  • Thank you for the help, I'm likely going to be purchasing myself one of these mics. Sounds amazing, appreciate the help!

I have the Canon 5D and I'm curious if you know a good Compact Flash Card that is good that I should consider to buy, I'm looking for a good deal. I'll most likely need 32gb on it, considering how much filming I do.

  • I use a t2i as well

I have some problem sometimes with "movie recording stopped automatically"

what class memory card do you use?

  • @robs70986987 Couldn't find if you were replying to another comment, but your recording probably stops not because of the class on the card (6 is ok, class 10 is preferred), but a limitation of 4gb max file size for the fat32 format that canon uses. This translates to ~12 minutes of 720p video. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it.

  • @endofwor1d Your totally right, it always turns off after a little more then 12 minutes. Thanks for the info!

  • It's not "rode"... It's "røde" ;)

  • This mic is amazing go buy it. I'm a college student in film, and my friend had this after I used it a few times I was sold. It is so compact has ease of use, and works amazing.

  • Excellent test dude....it really shows how the shotgun works blocking out other sounds.

  • im sold

  • I have that mic and, is not how he say, this mic take alot of back noise

  • Excellent review thanks!

  • Well done. Great comparison video and very nice editing. Thank you.

  • would this mic be good for recording like a band in a concert or inside a closed room? and maybe a short film?? please help!!

  • This video was uploaded on my 16th birthday. lol

  • Pleas answer

Can you put the rode videomic on a mike angel ?

  • Good video.... except you didn't show if it eliminates the auto focus noise of the camera. Maybe do another video showing the difference between the built in mic and the Rode when using autofocus?

  • Put a link for for that Christmas wallpaper. I want it!

  • Good review mate. What in your opinion would be the best option for a mic for the 60d? Maybe something with better quality than this?

  • would it be good for music videos ...for example freestyles

  • ø is not pronounced o but nevermind :)

  • Lovely review - Your test really showed you should buy a external Røde Microphone.

  • would this be good in winter, for shooting like snowboarding?

  • After Rode mic is mounted to hot shoe, can mic be pointed slightly to left or right? For example, so people use an "L" shaped bracket that has built in shoe mount on top of it.

  • not road ! røde!

  • @EatCraps Like anyone knows how to pronounce soft D's anyways.. :D

  • great video. i just bought this mic. i feel very reassured. thanks!

  • @goldenguy12345 Samson C03U.

  • @SoldierKnowsBest i have a sony handycam DXR CX 110 do you know if the mic fits this camera??

  • @SoldierKnowsBest The Samson seems to be a doing a better job than Rode. Right ?

  • "Screw the thing tight" haha awesome review as always.

  • hey soldier a good mic to use would be the blue snowball mic it has 3 different modes for where ever ur talking from usb plug an play mac osx and windows. it would be a good idea to give it a try

  • Enter My iPod touch Case Giveaway Today!!

  • can someone please help me! is it possibile to connect this to my ipod touch and use the voice memo software to record sound and then use my camcorder to film and then put it all together afterwards. The reason i would do this is becuase my camcorder has no audio jack. PLEASE HElP asap!!!!!!!

  • @SkoolBoyTV1 if this can fit your i pod, which i doubt, then the whole thing can work, but you have to be using a good editing software and you need to know how to use it well

  • I gotta get me one of those. Nice review, thanks.

  • I just bought one off of amazon for my canon 7D and yes the Audio is a step up from the built in mic. Now canon just needs an update for my 7D to see audio levels like the 5D and 60D.

  • Listen up Scandinavians: RØDE in this case is a danish word, because the company is danish okay?! So stop bitching about what language it is...BTW anyone who isn't Scandinavian doesn't give a f***

  • How does it work with wind?

  • Thank you for serving our great country, and for reviewing every product I've ever been interested in!! haha

  • SKB: Screw it in tightly= That's what she said :D

  • SKB: Screw it in tightly= That's what she said :D

  • Is this from Denmark, cuse its a danish word and a lot of famous youtubers use this like MysteryGuitarMan, Shane Dawson and Charlieissocoolike

  • I love this microphone. I have it too. :)

  • Love the mic i use it with my 7D but have a sennheiser on a boom recorded on a h4n. I need to do a comparison to my expensive sennheiser ME66 vs the videomic. My take is that the ME66 does a better job noise canceling sounds out of its capturing area along with better rich sound quality over all.

  • oh thanks for making a video !:D

  • Does this work on a Canon 550D?

  • @TheGearsKeepTurning wow srsy, that is a 550d

  • my problem is i want to know how far itll work or how it works with wind

  • ok, but what mic do YOU USE?????

  • @VirusTornado For his voice overs and shots where hes at his desk, he uses the Samson C03u.

  • @xTechTimex ok thnx for answering, i dont know how my comment got so many thumbs up!! I was serious!

  • @VirusTornado He used the Samson C03U. A USB Microphone.

  • Rød (røde) is a Danish and Swedish word. And it means red

  • @iPodTouchCam also norwegian

  • @iPodTouchCam It's not Swedish, the Swedish word for red is, depending on the phrase, "röd" or "rött".

  • I really wan this mic and from what I've heard it's pretty cool and well worth the money :) good review by the way, ever scince you unboxed it ages ago I wanted a good review :D

  • Are the slots on top of dslr's all the same size, like tripods?

  • Should add that in your next give away. I could used something like that....

  • please visitmy channel and see cool videos.cu

  • Gotta screw it tight ;)

  • I love this mic!

  • Червено = red its a Bulgarian word :P

  • @riperchetobg originally came from Ukrainian language.

  • Damn... Thats sweet

  • The thing on top of the Canon Camera? That's not a mount, It's a Hot Shoe

  • thanks for the review! good tests i want

  • Awesome test, Soldier!

  • Hey Soldier, which camcorders nowadays have those mounts on top for devices like this? I see it works on your Canon which is sweet but so many camcorders don't have those mounts anymore...

  • I own this microphone, and my results are not nearly as good as yours. It produces quite a bit of extra noise, not only a stready hiss but some random pops as well. Mine is not all that much more directional than the built in mic. In fact, the built-in mic on my Canon HFS-100 out-performs the Røde by pretty much any criterion. Maybe I received a bad one.

  • @mistergarth when did you get it? I got mine a few years ago. the newer ones must be updated, as mine isn't very directional either, yet i dont have pops/hissing

  • @DankSpuds

I got mine about a year and a half ago. Perhaps they've improved it; perhaps I got a defective one. I posted a quickie test, comparing the Røde to an Audio-Technica wireless lapel mic and the built-in one on my camera, on my channel.

  • Please plug it into an iphone...Yes, it will work. Thanks.

  • haha this videos pretty funny . with the thumbs up and faces when on the left he went quiet and was talking on the right . haha

  • Cool

  • how's it for filming pono ?

    :D

  • @sweetypie000 pono?

  • yours looks shorter than mine and your missing a shock mount on the front rookie! lol the whole thing colapsed at the end hahahaha . I bought it advice to everyone out there, turn your image stabilizer off. it will be herd on this mic

  • How comes in the 2 test videos the quality is really good but the actual video itselfs quality isnt as good.

  • 1:16 he tried to make a penis joke

  • The makers of this products should know what an Ø is before they use it. its not a fancy O. Its said like the u in "sure" sort of. It doesnt make Rode at all. It would actually sound like someone messing up saying "rød" wich is norwegian/danish for red, as the rest of youtube has made clear:P

    Anyway, nice review.

  • I love it and could you please make a review outside?

  • "Rød" is a Norwegian, Swedish and Danish word =D... It means, Red

  • can i use it on my pc?

  • @megasmart1337 more looks like extended display

  • 3 Macs

    Wow Nice

  • Rød= red in both norwagian and danish :)

  • Do a giveaway =]

  • Røde Shotgun on danish Red Shotgun

  • That is true Rode is an Australian Company supplying top quality microphones

  • OT

    via Twitter:

    ceoSteveJobs Steve Jobs:

If I were you, I would wait for the next iPad.

  • Really guys, Røde is not danish. Yes it means red in danish but it's an Australian brand iirc, so pronouncing it as 'Road' or 'Rode' is correct as it was never intended to be red.

  • @BassMusen Hey man i am from denmark and i dont think the letter 'ø' is australien we only got that in denmark , but really man dont know if its australien

  • @midihook I'm danish aswell but the company is australian. They probably didn't even intended the 'Ø' to be an actual letter apart from 'O'. The correct pronounciation is still Rode.

  • how much is it?

  • @1234debp 150 $

  • You pronounce Røde as Rude!

  • Great product. I recently bought a shotgun mic for my camcorder. Works great cutting out the ambient sound.

  • "Røde" means red in danish

  • With the built in mic you get some better deeper tones the rode sounds washed out

  • give it away, please

  • yep, screw it in tight

  • Don't sweat it soldier, it's sort of weird to have a Scandinavian letter in an international brand anyways;)

Also, love the thumbs up from the built-in-mic soldier! :P

  • Unlocked Weapon attachment: Røde Shotgun

  • Røde = red its a Norwegian word :)

  • @JuliiuzzGaming Rød = red its a Danish word ;)

  • @Niko653 True I'm danish....

  • @Niko653 it is also a Norweagian word

  • @Niko653 Norwegian too :)

  • @Niko653 and norwegian

  • @Niko653 and norwegian. but i just looked on wikipedia and it says that it is from Australia!

  • @Niko653 and norwegian. but i just looked on wikipedia and it says that it is from Australia! (the microphone)

  • @Niko653 Same in norwegian.
