  • this is one of the all time best country songs written/performed...i do believe they stole the concept of this song and made that over rated J Bridges movie with all the country music that won him an oscar.........john anderson is really a country legend

  • YOUNGIN here...one of my favorites....

  • lol this is my life song

  • It just doesn't get any better.

  • met him once at a record signing at Eastland Mall in Charloote... he's only this tall..

  • This is one great song all right. Matching a "childlike fantasy"; catch a falling, with the hard drinking -honky tonk- fading star. Hitting on all cylinders!

  • John Anderson was at the heart of what was country music, along with Hank Jr., Reba , Ricky Scaggs, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt, George Strait, Alan Jackson and a half a hundred REAL country stars before the people from NY and LA took over Music Row and ruined country music. Beauhooligan.

  • This song is in my juke box. Will never lose track of it. Love it!

  • i grew up on this stuff...GREAT MEMORIES!!!

  • i grew up on this stuff...GREAT MEMORIES!!!

  • I see 4 people have no class

  • Great song and real country music. Keep it country or don't bother.

  • This song makes me think of George Jones before he met his current wife, thank god she caught him before he ended up like his hero, Hank.

  • Ain't it strange how we age and how good music can take you back in time just like we were still there?

  • Dear 4 (four) dislikers: Why are you here? This song is one of John Anderson's best...Country Music best. Could be you don't like Country Music. If you don't like Country Music you wouldn't be happy in Heaven. Johnny Cash is up there just waiting for all the rest of us country music lovers, singers, players, like JOHN ANDERSON...!

  • The 1980's was the last great era in country music - John Anderson, Ricky Skaggs, Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakam, George Strait. First time I heard Garth Brooks and saw how successful he was with that country-pop sound, I knew it was over. Practically everybody after Brooks does country-lite. But that golden period before country-music-for-people-who-don't-like-country-music took over was great while it lasted, and those guys that came out of that era still produce some terrific stuff.

  • @ParkerAllen2 Yeah the 80s were great, wih they still had real country music. Garth Brooks was a good country artist , but the one started this generation of "pop country " was Shania Twain.

  • Comment removed

  • @ParkerAllen2 Gotta agree with ya "almost" totally on this one friend. I saw the same thing with Brooks & maybe that's why I never took a shine to him either. Alot of folks did though & shortly after that period I got away from the so-called country never to really return. Except for the "classics", which I still love. Great tune here huh? Thanks for letting me ramble on. lol

  • was that on heehaw

  • I miss country like that! Country of 80s that's my boy! From star to stars, don't fall I will catch you!

  • Keeping it country. Way to go.

  • this song / video will still be popular in a 100 years form now!

Because its real it's not a about some sunset or broken heart its the real stuff simple and real from the fiddle player to the steal to the coruse singers its summed up simply in one word REAL.

  • All you newbys to Country Music, This is how its supposed to sound like -- THE REAL DEAL ---- Thanks for posting VVVVVVVVVVVery nice

  • Studio version hit #6 in Billboard, 7-10-82. God bless!

  • i remember when he was gilleys in pasadena, texas and when he was getting prepared with his band he wore cut off blue jeans and cowboy boots which made us laugh-- back then --i dont know if he went on stage that way---i did not have enough money to stay---it was free at the gilley's arena to see Reba because she was not real popular at that time---i sure miss that old place--would rather have seen john

  • This is it. Real Country. I'll bet this song was what inspired the screen writer for the movie that got the best actor oscar last year.

  • great song

  • Great song.

  • wish i could talk to him

  • this is my brothers cousin hoskins!!!!!!! i love him!

  • Is this when he performed on Hee Haw??? Sure looks familiar lol

  • @faithful2musikfuall I was wondering the same thing, great old show.

  • @x170063 It is It is yay. We were right, just look at that backdrop!!!!!

  • I miss this kind of country too!!!! Thank God for Txmusicam and thos alike!!!

  • OMG! That's Buddy Emmons on that Emmons steel guitar!

  • What has happened in Nashville. Why no more Honky Tonkers like Anderson, hell even folks like Clint Black and Allan Jackson ain't played no more.I always liked this song, kinda reminded me of a soul like Jerry Lee when this song came out.

  • @dayroemer You're absolutley right. I've also noticed those two plus many other artists from the 80's and 90's rarely get any play time. It's a damn shame we don't have any classic country stations in my area.

  • NOW this is country!

  • one of a kind voice!!! this is the kind of country i have always loved and grew up listening to. I'm a 14 near 15 year old girl, but I miss this kind of country music!

  • @krazyj2010 Hadd 2 come back 2 this tooone...

It is one of my fav's!

Reminds me of my hubby :)

  • @krazyj2010 this is TRUE country, and trust me, John can sing like that anytime. He has played for our family, by his self, and he sounds the same.

  • One of my all time favorites.....thanks for sharing.

  • good stuff thanks

  • I think it was a miss that this wasn't in Crazy Heart, how perfect it would have been for it

  • sexyiest man iv'e seen in a while except one exception......Brian

  • This is on Hee Haw, i remember seeing it a while back. John's a cool dude.

  • I heard John does a local fishing program these days to pass the time. Sounds like a great carreer, make great music, then retire and fish through the later years.

  • All these "new country " artists need to look at true artists like John Anderson and and realize they have it all wrong!

  • Msredneck...you have made my day with that story!

  • i'm a 54 year old woman... that said, lol i LOVED (still do) John back in his hayday... went to ALL his concerts within 100 miles (yes, really) and uhmm went to tennessee to visit friends who owned a flower shop in sparta.... well, we went there one day after lunch and guess who walked in??? JOHN ANDERSON, needless to say i about wet myself... i truly adore him... made my vacation complete... he's very approachable, he didn't have to stop and talk with us but he did.. great guy!

  • my mom went to see him a few times and got the chance to meet him and told me that he was a true gentlemen... very under rated

  • @tuph63 He is cute, that's for sure. Glad he is a gentleman as well. Only got to see him once.

  • Why can't they make true country music like this anymore??

  • @stallout78 They do ,you just have to listen

  • They do. It's just not on the radio.

  • good stuff!

  • Great song!!

  • why is the cmt logo upside down?

  • @AgentCarter i was kinda wondering that myself.. i have seen that on couple other videos.

  • :) thanks!

  • Haven't heard this in awhile.sure was good hearing it again. Thanks for sharing

    Loved it.......Maggster

  • So true, nobody loves you when you're down! Would you catch a fallen star?

  • John Anderson is the KING of country!

  • A true god of country..........

  • GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!

  • a true bad ass

  • hell yeah

  • hell yeah, long live john anderson!

  • @judge. big and rich signed him into a contract they have been buying up contracts of many great artist such as john anderson, gretchen wilson just to name a few. he had a new album come out about 2 years ago i havent found it yet in stores but have heard it, its not bad.

  • I can so identify with this song. Once upon a time, I had a couple of top ten hits. Opened for some famous country acts and was doing okay. Can' t say it wasn' t easy to open one night for an act that drew 35,000 people and then two nights later to be in a club with 9 people. Bummer. But it is part of the business. Too many things to ease the pain. The rejection. The failure. Music is a fickle lover. One night you' re up. The next night you don' t exsist. ( Keith Urban). get my point?

  • @starr522 cool story! which songs??

  • who are you.

  • His perfect but not my favorite country singer Alan Jackson is my favorite and Jessie James

  • I saw him in Danvaille VA in the summer of 2009 man did he jam the stage this cat is one of the best SING IT JOHN!!!!

  • He is a prophet in his own right, He was. does anyone know what he is doing now, as far as music.

  • I love it! One of my favorites....John Anderson is number one in my book.....

  • this is country as it should be.........:)

  • LOVE me some John!

  • I remember seeing John Anderson singing "Swingin" on HEE HAW in the early 80's I think it was thinking this guy is gonna definitely be a star someday. I don't normally listen to Country music. I just couldn't help thinking "this guy has one of the most distinctive voices I have ever heard". John's "inflections" I guess is what you would call it are just so incredible. I don't know of many musicians that have such a distinctive voice. I loved SEMINOLE WIND too!

  • I saw him in Gratna, La in the early 80's. He would do 3-4 shows there a year.

I wish he'd come back thru!

  • This song IS just Country Music. Love It. :)

  • love this awesome country tune TKS

  • SUPER,What else is there to say...I've fooled a lot of people...LMAO...FANCY!

  • yea i agree with you todays country music is not what it use to be. i get so tired of taylor swift songs and tractors

  • What is country music?? JOHN ANDERSON It just dosen't get any better then the voice of John Anderson.

  • I seen John live back in about 94 at the Crazy Horse in orange county CA, a small venue it was like he was singing in my living room. Those were the day's

  • damb right, progress is gonna happen but some things should stay the same.I was raised on all this, waylon, willie, hank and i still cant get enuff

  • John Anderson is solid country gold.

  • THIS REAL COUNTRY

  • LOVE IT!!

  • I truly miss this kind of country music....current stuff just ain't the same. That's why I often reminisce about the good old days.

  • @mclenptp I agree. This is real country music, in case some don't know.

  • actually when this came out it was supposed to be kind of a throwback to an older style of country before its time

  • Back in the 1980s John was cranking out hits one right after another, could sure use more of his type of REAL COUNTRY music today that is for sure. Country & Western Music has gone straight to hell.

  • once again i can only ask wth happened to quality country music :(

Awesome video that makes me miss good country as well as good Florida country music!

  • @swainrich It's gone like a '59 Caddillac.

  • i like the lastest braddock tune that's number one on the charts. some people say it does not compare with his other pens.

  • My favorite John Anderson song

I am 52 and I think most of us at this age

know Nobody loves you when you down

  • If you believe in God you'll always be loved.

  • lol lol lol Killer comment. Thanks for making my night. I just turned 63 and know just what the hell you re saying. Peace be with you. Again thanks for the laugh I needed it.

  • he kinda remionds me of jason aldean.. I love this...grew up listening to john anderson...

  • i dont want to here nothing of the new!!!!

  • "new country sucks! "

    You got that right bro!

Never hear a fiddle or pedal steel anymore. Or even a rockabilly guitar.

Just 4 part harmony of men with womens voices singing rock or pop .

Now if this Anderson feller wud get a haircut he might turn out all right.

  • amen to that!!! though...i have to disagree bout the hair....checko ut Charlie daniels band's "long haired country boy" ha ha hah a im just pickin on ya bro. your right though. country is dead....real country. only guys lft is eric church, jamey johnson, brad paisley.....i miss the older stuff.....merl haggard and george jones...

  • I agree. The hair was cool.

I grew up right up the road from Big John's hometown. You gotta love him.

  • Folks John Anderson is the real deal... Country music at its best! Maybe I am in a time warp but I cling to the old stuff cause new country sucks!

  • Absolutely classic country! You know I heard this on a classic radio station this week and I had forgotten how great a song this was. It is a shame the direction country music has taken these days, where are songs like this today?

  • awsome video awsome song, shoulda been a #1 hit

  • I remember dancing to this song.....

  • Waylon Jennins said he sounded like he had a foot peddle in his throat. Well for me John keep it country and lets have more like this. Great.

  • love this guy one of the best!!!!

  • Hey, that's our fiddle player, Tom Morley! He was with John about 5 years back in the day.

  • Now this is country, John, Jones, Vern, Whitley, Daryle Singletary, and Ken Mellons. That's country!!! Today's country sucks ass. I won't buy it!!!!

  • none more like 84,,,what a year that was,

i didnt get to see john till 90,,,,he kept me entertained many a late night shift at the chicken plant,,,,me and my walkman,,,before the world turned totally sicence fiction

  • man i know what you mean science fiction! i walk around in a daze about half the time cause i can't believe this sh*#

  • WOW! THIS SONG IS SO GORGEOUS!

  • This is the flip side of "swingin'

Have it in my jukebox. Play it all the time. Don't remember it from the radio tho. Shame!

  • Brings back memories.... back when John was allover the radio where he belonged.

I swear this song seems autobiographical for him.

  • trevor moonen foo shore!! with long hair!! but johnny is amazing ya!!

  • He is absolutely wonderful-love this song!!!!

  • AWESOME

  • Good stuff. Old school John Anderson.

REAL COUNTRY. Back when country was country.

  • Too bad country music isn't about ... country music. Now it's all flashy pop stuff

  • John Anderson. the one and only.. man i hope someone uploads hillbilly hollywood

  • today has very little country........

    this is all country......

he sounds just as good live as his record does.

  • I wish THIS was what country sounded like today.. sorry to say, no true talent like this out there.

  • Comment removed

  • NOW THIS IS COUNTRY!!

  • I drove to cody,wy. and listened to this great song the whole way!!!

  • John Anderson is a unique singer, a style all his own. He has stayed true to country throughout his music career....he deserves better recognition and respect.

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!!

  • this is a great song, it has so much meaning...great lyrics.Woudl be a good movie.

  • My band opened for John Anderson at Atwood Music Festival in Monticello, Ms in 2001. We have opened for a lot of acts but John sounds so different. He is a great musician and singer with a great back-up band.

  • Great song from a great singer seen him live

he always had his dad w/him a true country

    man

  • A++++ That's all I can say

  • im no expert but is this a song about george jones ? by the way im a huge john anderson fan, seen him a couple of times in ca.

  • It never occurred to me that it might be about George Jones. As I listen to it now, it could be about anyone who's past his prime. (Do you think that describes "The Possum"?)
