Pacific Amphitheater, Costa Mesa, CA. October 2, 1988. 14:44
Note: Stevie & Jimmie Vaughan and Cesar Rosas (Los Lobos) join Santana for encore. According to a Santana website, they also played "Deeper, Dig Deeper" during Santana's encore, and Santana and Jimmie jammed during Stevie's encore. Stevie plays double-neck guitar (by himself).
Grade: audience, high gen. Possible upgrade on Disc 72.
never seen stevie play a double necked guitar. greg rollie sounds damned good. great two note range there los lobos dude-jeez. and as always no talent "percussionists" (not drummers) tryin to steal the spotlight away from real musicians.
I'll be dipped!!! Where did this come from. Had some trouble loading it but, WOW, just when ya think you've heard it all, a masterpiece like this comes around. Thanks so much, can't tell you how much I enjoy this.
When the drums come in at 1:29 it just sounds so powerful, and you can really tell how strong and disciplined Santana's rhythm sections have to be. One of the things I've always appreciated about Santana is the way he's brought drumming to the front in popular music.
Michael Shrive has always been my favorite drummer. Shrive, Chepito, and Carabello are a deluxe percussion section surpassed by none. Remember Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock?.....Nuff rezpeckt !!!
the emperors should have sued santana for stealing from Karate from them, that is karate with coster on organ instead of milton brown and trrone moss on drums
I have audio of Stevie and Carlos playing and encore jam together in December of 1989, pretty good stuff. But to see those two together would have been awesome. Along with a new Stevie album!
It was October 3rd not October 2nd, I was the house photographer at Pacific Amphitheater at the time and remember it was the third because it was Stevie's birthday ,, Check out my Facebook page for photo's of the show
This is from santana's reunion tour where he got members from the original Santana band to tour. Greg Rolie on organ & vocals, Chepito Areas on timbales, Mike Shrieve on drumset,Mike Brown on bass.Non original members that I see are Armando Perraza congas,Chester Thompson keys,Raul Rekow congas. Guest are SRV (RIP),Jimmie Vaughn,Cesar Rojas (Los Lobos) My guess is '89 or '90 Los Lobos were big at that time. Nice jam audio is bad though peace
Those guys, all of them, are fucking awesome musicians!!! That was an incredible Jam session if I ever heard one!!! Long live all of these guys-SRV, your music lives forever. I only wish, SRV had done some spiritual stuff in his life like Elvis had.
This is great. Amazing the way all of these guitarist and other musicians just jam this tune. Santana always have a way of allowing the other musicians shine, no matter how talented they are.
I would be nice to hear Stevie Ray Vaughan...santana's good but you can't compare him to Stevie that's like comparing a ford pinto to a Ferrari night and day boys night and days!
5:20, you can see Jimmie looking over to Santana like cmon... time for my solo. Love how Santana quiets the rest of the band down just for Jimmie. Best solo I've heard from Jimmie in a long time when playing with his brother.

santana songs are like huge chaos:)- terrible mess of notes without no direction whatever!some says here that this is his favourite song!what part then is the best one!there is no up and downs only terrible mixture of noise!
Holy gesmokes...this has to be my favorite Santana song. Amazing. I saw Santana as !opening act! for my all time hero --Eric Clapton--in August 1975. God Bless you, Carlos... RIP SRV..Thank you Los Lobos...Jeff Wilson, age 52, Portland, Oregon USA

Santana,The Vaughn Brothers, and Los Lobos. This was an awesome colaboration. Probably the only time these guys played together. Thanks for putting it up.
The guitarist seem like they were thrown in from out of nowhere on this song - all are equally lost. Worth watching, though, because Gregg Rollie, who sang Everybody's Everything on Santana III and then left the band a year later, is killing on vocals - amazingly,he sounds as he good when the song was recorded more than 15 years before this performance.
and wow madaxeman, i like how u call me a jealous prick. Anyone whos picked up a guitar is jealous of these cats. No one who has an IQ above metally retarted actually thinks that they are better than these guys, and ur a fuckin idiot for not knowing that or sensing the most BLATANT example of sarcasm imaginable

there's allways some jealous prick with a stupid ass comment, there should be a separate section for the butthole's comments,SRV's music will never die!
Neal Schon owns the guitar solo to this song. Just not for Stevie, tho if he had gotten it sorted out in advance he, SRV Main Man, could've matched the original. The Lobos man's a stinger--great workin'! Jimmie rocks, too.
I think here you can also see the difference between Stevie and many others: the passion. Stevie always 100% straight! He is still the greatest guitarist, dead or alive. Unbelievable!
But in this song it is the first time he isnt really putting trough. But watch SRV and Jeff Beck and you hear what I mean.
u asshole if u r better than all of them why havent i heard of u yet. yeah exactly u r nobody tryin to be somebody by putting down others. I know u suck because a good guitarist dosnt have to brag he knows that he is good and tries to learn from other guitarist whenever he can. A good guitarist should be able to walk into a room and every body knows it by the way he carries himself or acts not by the way he brags.

I think 1989-1990 by the look of SRV's suit and bolero hat. Also the Santana band member point to that period. I am more partial to say 1990.
At the end of the video one can see Armando Peraza. Nice.
