Mine does this with Goldeneye. I have not noticed this DonkeyKong or MarioKart. I think I have Wii Connect 24 ON. If I turn it off will the artifacting go away?
@TheMule93x Nope, I'm afraid not. The artifacting usually comes as a side-effect of a defective and/or damaged Hollywood GPU. If it's still under warranty, send it in ASAP.
@cwadge No its not under warranty. I can notice artifacts mostly in the Wii Menu and in parts of Goldeneye. Mario Kart and Donkey Kong is hardly noticeable. I guess I will have to play through the annoyance until it shits out. Thanks for the feedback.
Mine just started doing this after installing the updates to play Golodeneye. Jeez I hope it isn't going bad, since it was a original release, which seems to be the best for playing Gamecube games and homebrewing... Not bad though, all this time and nothing?, maybe I just need to clean it out b4 it gets bad. Right now it just pixelates a few green dots here and there
@EscortLXDriver95 From what I understand, if you're seeing garbage pixels regularly your GPU is probably already doomed. If you're just seeing it after the console's been running for a while (and has gotten hot), you may be able to salvage it with better cooling. Those ATI Hollywoods are not as durable as they should be.
The Wii I bought at release is doing this now. Most of the time it's something I can live with just fine but in some games the artifacts are very sometimes prominent like shown in this video and it does annoy. Never updated the system menu past 3.2 and never used Wiiconnect24 because I'm running a lot of homebrew on it.
Ohh... ... So the system update is the culprit. Hmmm... Well I was thinking of backing up all of my saves on to my SD card - & my VC/WiiWare games too. But It sucks though that the firmware breaks the system. Generally though, Nintendo hardware always has been better than the competition. N64 vs Ps1, GC vs Ps2, Dreamcast, Xbox. It's always has been very well up to this time. This generation though is the worse compare to the past, cause the other systems I have lasted well after 4 years.
@MarioLegend Actually I had to send it back to Nintendo for repair. They didn't admit to the GPU issue, but they did waive part of the repair fee. Ended up being somewhere around $50 to get it fixed.
@cwadge Really? Darn... ... Well, it's about time really to see it degrade. I'm amazed that it took since launch time to get all worn out. The side of my wii has melted for how hot the system has been on with wiiconnect24 and it's my fault for having it on it's side instead of up right. Though, do you still have all your saves in your wii when taking it in for repair?
@MarioLegend Sort of. My saves were OK, but I had to re-download everything I'd already paid for. Really an unnecessary pain in the ass. Yes, technically my Wii was out of warranty. But on the other hand, their faulty firmware is what caused the failure to begin with. Ugh. Well, I guess Nintendo's really never were the most stable of consoles, and the Wii is no exception.
