As a mother myself I know you don't necessarily need to wake a healthy baby up to feed him/her because they'll let you know when they're hungry.
It SHOULD NOT have been an excuse to why this poor child was so severely malnourished. And its not best to switch breast milk and powered formula so often because the switching can cause the baby digestive problems and make your baby really fussy and uncomfortable.
So remember, baby will cry when hungry. Stick to 1 feeding product.

Also he was 5 weeks old, she had him in her care for 3 of those weeks, and NO ONE taught her how to care for a premie. Premies have special needs that she should have been taught about. The hospital should never have released the baby to her until she was taught to care for him. My child was preterm and I had to have classes before she could come home. Just saying more are to blame than mom.

why wasn't the newborn placed into foster care as soon as it was possible, this wouldn't have happened if DOC's had done it's job.
she was uneducated, homeless and a teenager, putting the child in foster care at least until the "mother" could be taught how to care for an infant , find some form of permanent housing and receive counseling.
even i know a newborn needs feeding every 2/3 hours and burping and changing, kept warm and clean, and i have never had a baby or much contact with any.

i had my son at 19 and no one helped me raise or told me how to fucking feed him and yesterday he turned 10. all the fucking excuses people who do this use make me sick. any person who kills a child should die the exact same
