Also, I want to note I'm not really seeing the lip syncing out of sync...perhaps the audio portion of the track isn't syncing up properly for some people, as sometimes happens with youtube videos.
That's no problem at all man. What you didn't like I personally enjoyed. Your criticism is perfectly valid. If you're a filmmaker then being able to edit and nitpick at your work (or the work of others) is something rather valuable to have.
Also I'd love to hear how you think the film could have an added sense of urgency during the wedding photo portion, or more elaboration on why you feel the singers go on for too long. I appreciate your criticism, personally.
Also, if they ever did a feature-length film based on River of Crime, they'd absolutely have to include a scene with the photograph singing...that gave me chills.
Sean90291, We ARE getting somehing you are not! The so callded sloppy artistic intention makes this far more interesting than stale TV perfection. we are dealing with The Residents artistic vision after all, who are the master artists. Was meant to look old. This is not sloppy, numbskull.
Hey Combatina, it's a community after all, for all to post, usually for the love of their own words (and in this case maybe for the love of film as art). I really liked this film, with one criticism. I liked some other finalists a lot less. But I'll try to stick to typical YouTube posts instead: "Thiss movie kiks ass. All you haters are stupid and have stupid ass faces too."
There may be an artistic intention...but a discernable one? To whom? The artist? If your audience/viewer isn't getting some intention behind the sound that goes out of synch for a moment with the lips, then I'd have to say the intention--if it's there--fails. Maybe you can elaborate on how the momentary slip in synch is being used to convey some artistic intention.
Discerable artistic intention? To whom? The artist? If your audience/viewers are getting something that I'm not, then that's one thing. But if your artistic intention just looks like sloopy synch to every viewer, I'm not sure how the intention matters. We're not mind readers. Can you elaborate?
Great filmed interpretation of the voice over. Evocative. Felt like the grab of the wedding lacked a necessary urgency. And the lip synch of the voice shouting "who's there!" was almost in synch...almost. In 2006 a viewer expects this most basic film requirement (synch sound)--unless there's some discernable artistic intention otherwise. In this case it just looked sloppy. The photographic singers went on too long. But otherwise, quite an accomplished piece of work.
Technical issues aside, this is artistically and conceptually very good. It actually ADDED to the story, and heightened its eeriness. The touch of the singers at the end is my favorite part, since it gives a detached beyond-the-grave voice to the dead victim and a romanticized life the object of the protagonist's fixation. There is also a feeling of spiritual claustrophobia throughout. As a residents fan, this video actually reminds me of the better visuals from Bad Day on the Midway.
Wow. This here's a standout, especially compared to When We Were Young.

I loved this video. I thought it was one of the top two. I made a criticism of one small technical (artistic?) moment. But that wasn't appreciated.

The ending for this is absolutely EERIE. One of my favorites of the finalists.

Yes sean, there's some discernable artistic intention.
