Some drummers do these crazy drum solos and ya know there cool but Topper didn't need to, he is just that amazing at drumming that him playing makes one of the greatest drummers ever. Also listening to him drum on live recordings gives me goosebumps because thats how great his drumming is.

I love Topper, his drumming at the end was fantastic. Incidentally, i highly recommend an unreleased Clash track called 'Walk Evil Talk' that was on Mick's initial mix of Combat Rock (called Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg at the time). It just features Topper and Mick on piano, the drumming is really amazing. Also there is Topper's solo album from the 80s, Waking Up. Both can be found on torrent sites. Enjoy :D

Oh, it does my heart good to see Topper back in such good form....I never thought we'd ever see him like this again. I couldn't believe how bad he looked in Westways to the World...i almost fainted dead away when he first came on the screen...absolutely heartbreaking. I wish Joe could've seen the way Topper looks now...think it would've given him a little peace knowing that Tops was back amoungst the living.

He was underrated because of the genre(s) his band played. Not a lot of people who listen to punk pay much attention to the drumming (and rightfully so, in many cases). Topper was a different story though, a truly amazing drummer, one of my favourites of all times.

I too was inspired to take up drumming because of this guy. I thought I was the only one! Totally agree with his comments too. 'A band is only as good as it's drummer'. That's one of the reasons The Clash were so good. Does anyone know if he's recording/performing at the moment?

Topper was one of my first drum hero's ! Very underated ! In my opinion anyway. I learned to swing, play funk grooves raggae,and ska grooves, punk , rock . He introduced me to many musical styles ! He's still an inspiration ! I am in recovery for my alcoholism ,and have been clean , one day at a time for a little over 4 years. Glad your back TOPPER , look forward to more great drumming! I first started playing in 1978. I learned the most from listening and playing along to Topper's playing. Here was a guy who is in a "punk" band playing shuffles, bossa novas, and triplet-type rudiments that separated him from the others. Thanks Topper. Glad to see that you are clean and sober.
