I have been wondering this for years, ever since I saw, fell in love with, and bought, Dark City! Thanks for posting, and to the others who knew this song, for giving the name.
This song is a Russian melody from World War 2 its called "Siniy Platochek". I cant find the mp3, I would really like the Solo Accordion version of the song. If any one know were to get it let me know.
My mom used to sing this song to me as a child. I nearly cried when I heard it in Dark City played with such tenderness. It is a Russian (maybe French) song called "Siniy Platochik" or "Blue Kerchief". I think it is listed in the credits at the end of the movie. There is a song there listed as "<Something I can't read> Bleu" which would make sense as the kerchief in the song is supposed to be blue.
The best (legal) version of this song is this: Jan Boutouk and the Balatonia Gypsy Orchestra - Images Tziganes. It's track 2 - Le Châle Bleu.
Features violin and accordion and you can find it in iTunes.
I get an error every time I try to post the direct link, so....

In case you are curious, the song is about a rifleman who is carrying the blue kerchief of his beloved as he goes to war.
