I'm surprised Stuart Townsend never became more popular. He's good looking and a good actor two qualities you need to have to become famous, and still he never really did.
Does any one know the name of the song playing during the first part of this trailer? I been trying to find it ever since I saw this trailer and the movie, but I can never find it, and I'm starting to go nuts! Now I know I'm not the only one asking. In fact three others have asked (That I can see on this trailer.) If someone could tell us I'm sure that all those that have asked will stop asking for the name and if it was available on CD would even BUY the blasted album. At least I would.
@mogwi1988 Oh you need to do is lookup the Sound track on Wiki and find the title of the main intro if its on the soundtrack CD. Then if you know how to do Torrent

haha..its a long time ago... capt. nemo in this movie reminds me the book dat i stole in my school library...hahha the title is 20000 leagues under the sea..i think..if i'm not mistaken...huhuhhu
i saw this when i was younger and i thought it was the best movie ever, the action was soo good and the story was easy to follow, but now that im older i can see the critics point lol
but what did it mean, "their origins are unknown"? of course they're known, just read a book (Dracula, King Solomon's Mines, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea) The only one who isn't is Rodney Skinner, who stole the original Invisible Man's formula, but he never showed up in a book (I think)
Does anyone know the name of the piece of music between 0:10-0:45? I am asking because I really like that music. And, of course, this is a great movie.
The scene after "THE BAD" with the girl and the nazi... MY GOD that looked AWEFUL... Like a B movie shot of guys who've just discovered what a "green screen" is...
Apart from that, will buy the dvd some time soon to check it out..
i've heard about a novel called dr. jekyll and mr. hyde but the characters are the same with this movie! the writer must be copied(the characters) from the novel!
Just because he gained the rights doesn't mean they are his characters. Hagard, Stoker, Verne, Wilde, Stevenson, Twain and Doyle are still their creators. Moore couldn't even get rights to the Invisible man, which is why in the mvie he's names Rodney Skinner instead of Hawley Griffin.
Oh yeah, and for Connery, the film made a great throwback to action of his James Bond days!
It would have been nice to see the story go on, but the original story's author is kind of a prima donna, and his whining that he couldn't even recognize his characters(which were never his to begin with) pretty much put the kibosh on any sequels, along with the fact that Sean Connery has retired from moviemaking.
But for his legendary career, this film was a worthy finale.
The vampire's name is Mina, is it possible that she's the same Mina that in Bram Stokers "Dracula" gets haunted by him? I mean, how many vampire-babes has the name Mina/Wilhelmina?
She is Dracula's Mina. If you watch the movie they call her by her full name and she explains that she, her husband and a man named Van Helsing fought Dracula.
which is astray from the novel because in the novel it's "she and her husband, a man named Van Helsing and three other men named Arthur Holmwood, Quincey P. Morris and Dr. John Seward".
also Mina was never turned into a vampire it's just fiction/pop-culture like this film and a few others have her as one (for some reason)....
I think, technically, that the film suggests that by defeating Dracula, she absorbed his powers, but remains mostly human. Note that she can be exposed to sunlight, but never uses her powers at those times.
DrJeklly38......Have you even read the Bram Stoker novel "Dracula" ?
Because a vampire been exposed to sunglight (like you say Mina is in this film) without been destoryed is actually a reference to the Dracula novel.....Dracula isn't destroyed by sunlight (a myth Hollywood made up).
in the novel Dracula is weak when it's sunlight but he's not killed by it.
But Mina is not a vampire....in the novel Dracula bites her and forms a sort of 'bond' with her that is destroyed when he's killed
great action-adventure movie with characters from classic literature. i fail to see why such an excellent film tanked at the box office. maybe people are too fucking stupid to pick up a great book and read it.
It always seems like movie studios have the biggest difficulty when dealing with the transition from book to film.
I mean Peter Jackson, love the Rings movies or hate 'em, but you're not going to find another director who will put so much dedication to something that he genuinely loves.
I think most movie directors see a script and think, "Paycheck!" Instead of something that could be a cult classic or Oscar-worthy.
damn right. The glory days of Hollywood are long gone. Occasionally, you see a worthy movie, like "Somewhere In Time," "Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom Of The Opera," "Bram Stoker's Dracula," "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein,"
"Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina,"
"Valkyrie," "Bright Star" and several others produced these days, but sadly, these films are few and far between.
Tank nothing, by year's end the movie had grossed almost $200M at the box office. These days, any film ta makes over $100M is considered a blockbuster!
@ShakespeareHamlet You're absolutely right. The movie was so clever with all the famous literary characters...it just failed because these assclowns have never bothered to read the books. They're CLASSICS for godsake.
hum, because many things made no sense? The nautilus had an illogic form, the way hide saves the nautilus ( so he pulls a lever, and all of sudden all the water is drained while the whole ship is underwater? wth? nemo's soldiers standing up out of cover when being shot? Him and jekill saved by a convenient small passage? Oh, yeah, if you can see the coffee that the invisible man drink go down his throath, then you should see pretty much everything he has in his body)
@ShakespeareHamlet That's because the actual graphic novels made the movie look like shit lol.
Fuck this movie, Mina Murray wasn't a vampire in the graphic novels and she was the leader of the team NOT Quartermain. And why was Tom Sawyer in the movie?
That reminds me, everyone is whining about how the characters are underdeveloped. These are characters who have become popular from classic books. The flipping critics probably have never heard of these guys. They should go to a library, and get out King Solomon's Mines, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, Dracula, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, and The Invisible Man.
Exactly what I was thinking. In fact, I think the critics didn't even know these characters existed until this movie. Maybe they should go make a sequel anyway since it's pretty obvious why none of the brainless critics liked such an excellent film.
@ShakespeareHamlet no people are too fucking stupid to pick a book , read it and then make a mediocre movie out of it. the cast was good but the script was very weak. and im not a hater , ive watched it 2 or 3 times but it cant be compared to v for vendetta or any other film interpretation of Alan Moore's work. it was a bit nive if they had a better script and a director like Zach Snyder or Terry Gilliam then it would have been a masterpiece.
Seriously, do read the comic. THAT was brilliant. The movie was a watered-down crapfest in comparison. But I have to admit, a guilty pleasure watered-down crapfest :)
So far, I figured out that the last part of the trailer, after Connery says "and the game is on", the music is from Time Machine. The track is "Morlocks Attack", but it's for a short time.
This is just like you people bitching about the Sgt. Bilko movie comparing it with the television series that it was adapted from and saying the movie is not as good bla bla bla although on its own the movie is excellent.
what a shitty ass movie! Ok this is nothing like the comics 1 Mina never had vampire powers 2 That looks nothing like mr hrde 3 Quartermain is supposed to be really skinny and addictid to drug 4 There is no imortal character in the books 5 there are only 2 guns used in the book: A elephant spear and a machine gun God what a bad movie
so the reason you think this movie sucks, is because the movie was not exactly like the comics? People like you are what destroy movie adaptations. Directors have to always adjust their movies to please the fagtard fanboys who will cry if they don't get what they want. Seriously thats why Spider man 3 did so poorly
no i dislike it because as its own movie it sucks and it is nothing like the book. If it wasn't league of extraordinary gentlemen it still would have sucked. Also i am not saying it is not exactly like the comics i am saying it is nothing like the comics. Yes, but Alan Moore started b****ing that HIS characters(B.S.!) weren't even recognizable to him(and if you read the comic, that's a good thing). It doesn't surpass Watchmen but its a good read. Its a good action comic.
This movie was terrible, totally raping the source material. Here's why:
1. Mina didn't have vampire powers but she was still badass.
2.Quartermain is a opium addict washed up hero not some old james bond.
3. Mr. Hyde was badass that he tore apart chinese henchmen.

He whined to the press that he'd never let another of is comics be filmed. Guess he figured "V For Vendetta" on film was worth more money than his principles!

He didn't approve the making of that and asked that his name be kept off of it. Same with Watchmen. He was pissed. Both times.
