The "concept" is more interesting than the actual "execusion" of it ...It's an art expression , not to be taken seriously (which is exactly what i personaly do ! )
I... just dont get it... somehow... whats the point? 100 metronomes... okay... but... what the heck is the point of all that? dont flame me please I realy wanna understand :D
100mn isn't a composition at all. It took no skill and indeed very little vision to create it, likewise Stockhausen's 'Hymnen' etc. Why is it necessary to go on validating traditional musical skills path in today's education ? For the simple fact that it takes a lifetime to master the skills necessary to excell in it. If we don't want to lose the fruit of a 500 year old evolutionary process we'd better keep validating it instead of replacing it with electronic workshops and physics experiments.
"György Ligeti, in response to Cage's 4'33", composed a piece entitled 0'00". It remains the shortest piece ever written, as well as the most performed composition of all time."
Where did you find this information? 0'00" is a piece by John Cage himself, and it is an electronic performane of 4'33". Please don't misinform people.
Where do you stand in the great bullshit debate? What are your views about bullshit? Is it a significant social force? Is it an important element of modern society? Has bullshit developed in recent years? Is the quality of bullshit as high as in the 1990s? Or do you not have views? Do you need advice from a bullshit guidance expert?
As for the math versus art discussion. It is pointless. The two (art and mathematics, that is) are so utterly intertwined, that, on a sublevel, they are close to identical.
Hahaha, well said RunDX7. If such a piece had indeed been written, it would constantly be performed, everywhere. (Therefore the "most performed piece" remark) No need to worry, cartopol. The piece he mentions has never been written, 'twas merely a joke, though quite a clever one.
Right, I wouldn't normally get into an argument about these things, let alone on the internet, but when and where exactly did Ligeti write '0'00"'? I'm fairly sure such a piece doesn't exist (or at least I know of no mention of it, and it doesnt appear on his works list).
Okay, now that's scary xD
