I genuinely cannot understand why you wouldn't want free at the point of delivery health care. No discussion as to whether you are covered, no excess (deductables as they are known in the US), every child covered, no gambling with your life, preventative care instead of cures mean people live longer. In the UK you can have private healthcare too, but they use NHS doctors/surgeons, they use NHS operating theatres and use NHS wards. I love the NHS, they cared for me since birth and my unborn child
who wrote the health care bill,oh the insurance companies, big pharma got big payouts unions are exempt.and wasserman schultz is one of the biggest liars in congress.
It does make private insurance companies richer - over $450 billion in direct payments over the next 10 years in ADDITION to the mandate and zero premium reforms except to say they can charge older members 3 times the amount they charge younger members. Or as the CEO of WellPoint said before Congress, "I think we as human beings greatly value our access to health care" meaning people will pay through the nose for "access" - even a policy with a $20,000 deductible.
Prior to 1965 in USA more people were buying health insurance privately than through public offerings, like Blue Cross/Shield.
So before 1965 and before Medicare/-aid, the private insurances provided a better and a cheaper option, while medical workers charged much less, so that most people were able to afford care out of pocket, which is the way it should be.
Health insurance was truly optional, because it wasn't treated like 'NHS'
Get gov't out of all insurance programs, they only run scams
@romanmir01 respectfully you have this exactly backwards. Probably because you do not know the history of health care in this country. True, pre-WWII it was Blue Shield out of Texas who first offered policies to try and get people to use services. This system greatly expanded during WWII due to wages being frozen during the war effort - this lead not only to employer based healthcare, but pensions and other benefits since that was the only way they could entice good workers from other companies.
So successful was commercial insurance that by the early 1950s, commercial plans had more subscribers than Blue Cross and Blue Shield. In 1951, 41.5 million people were enrolled in group or individual hospital insurance plans offered by commercial insurance companies, while only 40.9 million people were enrolled in Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans (Health Insurance Institute 1965, Source Book, p. 14).
@romanmir01 As you said yourself, medical care is much more expensive than in the early 60s, so out-of-pocket payment is not an option to most, and private insurance companies will cancel contracts or deny insurance in cases where extensive treatment is needed. I have private health insurance, and I've never heard of anyone being denied treatment or being denied coverage. Also, our government spends a lot less of it's annual budget than the US, so I can't see the advantage of the US system.
@ThaIllestBro You are missing an important point: gov't money.
Gov't money pushes prices up. This is true for education, health, agriculture, energy, communications, military, banking, insurance, etc.
Get gov't out of those industries and have them compete for customers not based on subsidies and preferential treatment, but based on quality and on market share, and prices for all of those things will drop.
@romanmir01 The US government spends more on heathcare than any other country in the Western world, while covering the smallest percentage of people. Don't get me wrong, I love and admire the US generally, but the healthcare system there is absolutely inefficient and inhumane. I believe that no one should die because he/she can't afford treatment, especially not in the most wealthy nations on earth.
@ThaIllestBro Health care is a normal good, just like any other, people need to buy it. I am not interested in paying for your health, it's my honest opinion. I will pay for mine and of people I do care about, that's all
Anybody getting a subsidy from gov't for this, first takes in money that he/she did not earn, second occupies the resources, that otherwise would have been spent on those, who earned the money and paid for care legitimately. So due to gov't money, prices skyrocket for everybody
I do not understand. Do some folks in the US think that they are not permitted to get their own private health insurance? If you do not want to stay on the government health plan then why not stick with your existing private health cover?
@Armatige People in the South are easily tricked by Republicans into thinking that universal health care leads to "socialism". Let's just put it this way, people in the South are just fucking stupid.
All I know is, I am willing to shell out an extra 10% (no more than 10%) of my taxes to go to public health care. You all can disagree however you like but I know that I am lucky enough to have access to health care and I know that an extra 10% increase in my taxes is negligible in exchange for those who are less fortunate than I am.
it here is not a regulation, the company can charge what ever they want. Your estimates are wrong because a normal middle class family cant afford the real cost of a treatment. The point of insurance is that everybody pays. Most of the peoples luckily don't need the insurance, so their is enough money for does that really need it. It seems to be unfair that you have to pay for someone else, but you have to remember that you never know when YOU are the one who needs the help.
I uses the car comparison to show how stupid it is to compare car with peoples. Your last sentence describes in a nutshell what wrong with your ideas. I am a free market guy, but a this doesn't work in the health care system. Because you cant negotiate with the insurance company, because if you are sick you are in the loosing spot already. When you have e.g. cancer what you gone do don't buy the medicine ?
@larsbergtube Agreed. Health care is not like your local pizza shop or retailer. If you get bad service from them it's easy to switch to a competitor. However if your sick and your insurance company says your they're not going to pay then what do you? If you threaten to take your business elsewhere guess what theyr'e going to say? Yes PLEASE take your premiums elsewhere then we won't have to pay for the $40,000 worth of surgery your going to need.
I hope they do whatever needs to be done to not force people to buy it though. Because I know people who simply can't afford Healthcare. Maybe with a Public Option things will change but until then the companies that are attached to my friends and families jobs its too expensive.
The responsible thing for any member of a group is to critique the groups actions to keep the group honest. If you don't critique the party you affiliate yourself with then you are just as culpable as someone who doesn't support their party. It's shouldn't be all or nothing that's how you fall into the trap of allowing corruption. Cenk makes his choice based on his personal political leanings and morals. Who are you to tell him he is wrong for that because you don't agree with him?
Why are conservatives considered 'Pro-Life'? Why does their "Pro-Life' agenda only extend to the fetus?
Why does 'the party of Christian morals and values' argue that providing for the poor and the sick (like Jesus told us to do) is 'socialism' and 'evil'? Was he some kind of 'socialist liberal'?
Why is it okay with conservatives that Insurance companies deny you coverage for profit? But if the government did that, it would be 'morally reprehensible'? Profit Good! Government Bad?
@kefluv its because they are stupid, its not complicated at all, they are just stupid and easily manipulated they are too self absorbed with there love affair with Jesus to actually be informed or understand things like democracy and civil rights, they are savage and blood thirsty and righteous spurned on by men in nice suits talking about Jesus and taking there money just so they can have a persona "relationship" with the son of a sky god, their 2000 year old rock star
@kefluv what's amusing is that the early christian church was very much concerned about the fellow man. everyone was encouraged to share with and care for the less fortunate among them and those with means would frequently donate to the leaders of the church to distribute to the poor. very much different from the beliefs now held by the christian right.
That what I was thinking... His daughter is ACTUALLY better off because of the new law. What the hell is he speaking of? The new law means that his daughter with his pre-existing condition cannot be denied! It is a GOOD thing.
@Tempest111 When has he ever said anything about Obamacare saving X amount of lives and then sharing their stories, instead of saying "yeah it has a few good things" and trashes the rest?
why isn't young turk talking about his atrocious cable ratings?
he's been getting his fat ass kicked across the board by CNN and FOX News since those msnbc dopes put his giggling infantile leftwing blogger mug on the air
lolz I mean like nobody is watching this embarrassment but turk doesn't talk about his epic failure on tv
@frictionRx9 if you judge quality news by ratings, then Aljazeera crushes the living shit out of fox, limbaugh, beck, hannity combined. Aljazeera is watched around the WORLD. But i bet you won't go there huh loser. Dumbass.
@angelo908638 Really? FOX and ABC are owned by the same corporation (Disney). xD If one does well, then other generally does too, even if one is getting better ratings and viewership. Don't know about CBS though.
@frictionRx9 Your a loser just like the rest of the people who watch Fox. Ratings don't = truth lol and that is why most people in the States are the most misinformed people on the planet. Pure ignorance!!!!!!
@thepoundsmoker. I'l tell you what I've told other people. Don't take frictionRx9 seriously. He's an oveerweight Fox "News" plant nerd that's too stupid to think of anything new to say so he says the same thing over and over again in all TYT videos. All friction does is talks about ratings, calls Cenk and Ana names and uses lies and racism. friction only has a big mouth because he lives in his parents' basement and has their protection.
@thepoundsmoker Are you familiar with Guns n' Roses? frictionRx9 does the same thing on any early Guns n' Roses or Slash-related videos, he talks about how great the current Guns lineup is and how he would love Axl Rose to fuck his brains out and cum in his mouth. The guy's been at it for well over a year.
yay cable news ratings for Wednesday March 23rd 6pm are posted
FOX News 2,176,000 viewers
CNN 775,000
and whoa yikes dead last AGAIN and still losing a shit load of viewers after Chris Matthews crap show ends is young turd on MSNBCrap with a ridiculously pathetic 539,000 pieces of leftwing crud watching his muslim puss
lolz what the hell was msnbc thinking putting a failed giggling infantile youtube blogger on to host the 6 o'clock news?
As an Australian, I feel sorry for you Americans. I get top class medical treatments when I want and the way I want for free from my government. So glad to be an Australian.
@coolman9999uk Me, too. Shake it, then break it off, and then shove it down his throat. Then, repeal health reform and see if he can get covered with THAT pre-existing condition.
I'm Canadian I go see my doctor when im sick, I go to the hospital when im hurt, its that simple. The Republicans are so fucking you Americans, and lie right to your face with a smile.
@groovyengineer I have a friend from Canada who lived here in the states for 20 years, then moved back to Canada. He is thrilled to be back there. He doesn’t make tons of money, but is a good man and deserves the peace of mind he gets there.
What’s so sad is that the great majority of Americans get only sound bites. They don’t really dig into the issues or even watch the news most of the time. And if they watch only Fox News, they’re getting a crock of shit.
And yeah, I remember a FOX Noise story from sometime last year or so when they were bashing the Canadian healthcare system. It was laughable, the wait times are longer here, true, but that's because we aren't abandoning people who can't pay to their demise. Our system isn't perfect, but it's still one of the best in the world, and everyone is covered from cradle to grave. I have no problem paying tax dollars for that.
@Twinroads Thanks. Exactly...I’d have no problem paying 6% or something for the knowledge that I’m taking care of. I have zero faith in the private insurance industry.
Anti-gov’t righties here will rip on the IRS, the post office, etc. Yet, I’ve never had an issue with the IRS or the post office. Never once. Can’t say the same for my private bank, credit card company, auto mechanic, cell phone company, it goes on and on. Greed just shouldn’t be part of the equation in health-2 much at risk.
@demmmmm1 Indeed, and we actually pay less per person compared to the American system, and get better coverage for all of our citizens. Google "Healthcare Costs around the World" and check out visualeconomics' site. It's well done.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the States. America is of pivotal importance in my particular field of study and in many many others, but some of the lies spewed by some of your politicians are stupefying.
@Twinroads I’ll check it out. Thank you. The lies in our right-wing media are daily, all day. It’s impossible to keep up with them all.
When I found out the Republicans are trying to defund NPR, I decided to search my radio dial in the car to see what would remain if I didn’t have NPR to listen to. Not good. Plenty of right-wing radio, though.
I'm not in the US and I don't follow your politics that closely. I heard that the republicans actually supported fixing the 'pre-existing condition' issues specifically, they just opposed the other stuff. Is that right?
@Etimos As long as the republicans can find some monetary profit in taking such a heartless stance, the US will keep going on about this "stupid health care thing."
@a1q2s3 lol. I love how people still blame it on the Republicans, like they're the ones behind this. Yeah, that big ol (R) sticker is just the sign of the apocalypse, but (D), they're honest but just weak and hopelessly defenseless.
With a Democratic president, and a Democratic majority in the house AND the senate, somehow the EVIL republicans still got their wicked heartless agenda across.
It's not the republicans. (R) and (D) are just the left and right sock puppets of the same author.
The phenomena of females not being able to afford health care coverage is well-known and one of the reasons why the Susan G. Kommen Foundation and Race for the Cure exist..
IF BUSINESSES HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS PEOPLE, AND BUSINESSES CAN BE SUED FOR FALSE ADVERTISING, WHY AREN'T THESE LYING POLITICIANS HELD LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BLATANT LIES?....
I'm talking about JAIL TIME!... because lying to the public, as a public SERVANT!?.. is unforgivable.... These people are being payed by US and lie to us!... smh... TALK about wasteful spending! It's a fucking ROBBERY every second some of these lying money grubbing clowns are allowed to hold office!
@StealOnU GREAT point, and to follow up with my own questions. At what point does a guying mowing yards become a business? And what jobs should only be allowed to be performed by business or unions not individuals, like with Teachers in WI?
Cenk is a corporate sellout. He has gone from slightly left to fully engulfed in this role as a corporate puppet who spouts off radical one sided views of behavior, mostly true but lacking important and readily available fact. Facts that severely lead to doubt as to the possibility of his claims being accurate. He in turn is now an entertainer. Meant to distract and lead the minds and actions of the far left. He never offers solutions that are different than party line. Unless you listen. Sheep.
I guess you just don't watch Cenk that much. Sorry, but the only thing that's changed about him from a year ago is that he now wears a tie and has a bigger microphone. He doesn't toe the party line, and if you're going cite "Facts that severely lead to doubt as to the possibility of his claims being accurate" Then present them instead of bitching about how he's a corporate shill.
You remind me of those guys who only like underground music. God forbid someone get paid well for their craft.
@WeedGreenPowerRanger evidence:Glenn Beck In Trouble w/ Fox News? Uploaded by TheYoungTurks on Sep 29, 2010 Cenk's own words are that you cannot say things that your CORPORATE sponsors will not like. THAT is corporate selling out. I have been watching Cenk and commenting on his youtube videos for well over a year. I do my research, you should have done yours.
I enjoy the banter and opportunity to present my facts.
As do I, and if the best you got is him saying you can't say things your corporate sponsors wont like about Glenn Beck, then I think you're digging pretty deep there.
"I do my research, you should have done yours."
I've been listening to TYT since they were on Air America. I'm also under no obligation to believe that you've been watching/commenting for a year.
So by all means, present your... facts. Show me where Cenk has actually sold out.
@WeedGreenPowerRanger I am saying watch the video where he says that if your on tv you cannot say things your sponsors don't' like. He said worse than that...watch the video.
@WeedGreenPowerRanger I am saying watch the video where he says that if your on tv you cannot say things your sponsors don't' like. He said worse than that...watch the video.
@JephRants See look there everyone wants freedom of speech but yet my comment has been removed for receiving too many negative votes. Yay, that isn't oppressive or socialistic at all!!
@frictionRx9 What you said made no sense. If your going to try to troll atleast make it so other people can comprehend it and get a little upset, but once I realised you were a baby troll still taking your baby troll steps, I was like, "Naw Naw this retard isn't worth it."
@HasanSIM14. Don't take frictionRx9 seriously. He's an overweight whimp nerd who's a Fox "News" plant that has no life and only has a big mouth becuse he lives in his parents' basement and has their protection. friction can't debate like an adult which is why he resorts to lies, namecalling and racism.
@frictionRx9 You do know a bipartisan budget commission determined that the healthcare bill saved money? If all you cared about was the deficit then you would like the health care bill. You're lack of intelligence is plain, go troll elsewhere.
@bronzeownsu6 The medical data base is created by Doctors and Hospitals in an effort to find the most effective forms of treatment at the most reasonable cost. It doesn't dictate any kind of treatments the Doc feels is right for you but it does allow the Doc to check the data base and see if another form has shown better results. It will also monitor the use of certain over use of medical procedures, as in the recent discovery that one hospital was routinely doing C-sections over vaginal birth
@bronzeownsu6 The End of Life planning was going to be paid by supplements, that was changed. Now, depending on your insurance co, may or may not be covered. End of Life planning is basically a legal agreement that lets your Doc and hospital know under what conditions you agree to "extraordinary" measures to be used to prolong your life. Many people choose not to have resuscitation, or to be hooked up to breathing machines. etc.
@bronzeownsu6 Well, it has to do with a propaganda campaign spear headed by Palin where they used the End of Life plans made with guidance from your Doc, combined with a medical data base for effective treatment that will be monitored by an agency set up by the Gov. This was aimed at seniors to scare the shit out of them, creating the town hall protest against the health care reform bill.
you hear these repulicans talk about government beauracrats and all that but to them the insurance company beauracrat that would deny you coverage is just fine and dandy. buncha assholes the lot of em....
Open a few dozen new medical colleges and create say 100,000 more doctors, it will help lower the cost of medical care and create jobs. I should be president I'm a genius.
Stop letting these nuts hold you back from universal healthcare America, its a humanitarian disgrace that this is not guaranteed in your country. I am not American, and I want to see America prosper and people to have access, regardless of socially darwinian profit motives.
Seriously it is sick. If I lived in the US, as I used to, I would return to Britain for something like cancer treatment. No sick loopholes, trumped up charges, pre-existing BS and psychopathic tendencies to try and deny care
@Neanderthalcouzin Thanks for your opinion on something that you have no affect on and has no affect on you. A passer by's view of several topics mixed into one solution. Its sad to see that you cannot divide things as individual problems and then work for an individual solution. This is the way to gain a win for everyone. Stop recycling information you heard or read from one source. Go to all, see their view and not just demonize it. Then work towards offering a real win-win for U.S. Thanks
@JephRants Actually this does affect me I have close friends who are severely affected by this, I have a very old friend with cancer who has lost her business, her home, even her pets. Just because it isn't me directly does not mean I have zero connection or this means nothing to me. Thats not true.
I have also lived in the US and may very well return one day. And healthcare providing is not individual, it is a collective action. So are viruses and pathogens for that matter. You don't know me.
129 Million Americans have preexisting conditions?? Holy shit! Almost half of Americans? Man are we an unhealthy and sickly bunch... :/ If anyone needs universal HC, it's us.
Actually I'm going to slightly disagree with Cenk here. The insurance companies are evil. If you would kill someone to make a profit, then you are a psychopath.
ali speed (CTFxC) was saved because of the health care bill as well she didnt have to pay for the bill out of pocket since she is younger then 26 her moms insurance covered a lot of the bill if not all of it
When Palin becomes POTUS, she will completely kill off Obozocare! Obozocare is COMMUNIST and SOCIALIST and a CANCER KILLING this country! Our healthcare system is SUPERIOR to public govt care! There is NO NEED and ROOM for govt reform of our healthcare system! President Palin will completely keep govt OUT of our SUPERB private healthcare system! Palin will CONVERT ALL public govt universal systems around the world into the SUPERIOR American privatized system!
@RogueAutomotive don't feed that ecwaufisxtreme cunt it is just a troll. the cunt's been trolling consistently on TYT vids for like a year and won't let up with the palin BS
@RogueAutomotive. ecwaufisxtreme isn't joking. She wants Sarah Palin to become President because she's Palin's mark, plant, puppet and lover. ecw and Palin are both crackheads, dykes and alcoholics. ecw can't debate like an adult so she uses namecalling, sexism, racism and lies in all her TYT posts. ecw has been rejected by men her whole life which is why she bashes them all the time. ecw is also a coward because she posts mostly in the middle of the night so people can't respond to her.
@ecwaufisxtreme obamas bill saved alli speed and the sn is CTFxC if you are a real youtuber then you care about the other youtubers if you arent the GTFO of youtube all together and go back to your FOX fucking "news"
@bronzeownsu6 A group of people essentially deciding whether or not you get the medical treatment you need for a life threatening condition. Which is essentially what the insurance companies are capable of and have done in the past.

I am a free market guy, but a this doesn't work in the health care system. Because you cant negotiate with the insurance company, because if you are sick you are in the loosing spot already. When you have e.g. cancer what you gone do don't buy the medicine ?
larsbergtube 11 months ago
@larsbergtube Agreed. Health care is not like your local pizza shop or retailer. If you get bad service from them it's easy to switch to a competitor. However if your sick and your insurance company says your they're not going to pay then what do you? If you threaten to take your business elsewhere guess what theyr'e going to say? Yes PLEASE take your premiums elsewhere then we won't have to pay for the $40,000 worth of surgery your going to need.

Mazdem 11 months ago
Cenk has been pushing the "Dems are no different to Republicans" line for years.
Democratic presidents appoint liberal/moderate judges to Federal benches.
Republican presidents appoint conservative judges.
that's all that matters.
Bush v Gore? Decided by conservatives - for conservatives.
Citizens United? The same - the case law that will make it hard for Democrats to win any more elections.
Demoralized? Thanks Cenk.
Shut up and support the BETTER party, in a TWO PARTY SYSTEM.

How does the bill stop us from getting private insurance? Jesus christ, all it does is force you to get it.
Fuck, do they honestly still believe that we got a public option?
TheCelticNinja 11 months ago
Why are conservatives considered 'Pro-Life'? Why does their "Pro-Life' agenda only extend to the fetus?
Why does 'the party of Christian morals and values' argue that providing for the poor and the sick (like Jesus told us to do) is 'socialism' and 'evil'? Was he some kind of 'socialist liberal'?
Why is it okay with conservatives that Insurance companies deny you coverage for profit? But if the government did that, it would be 'morally reprehensible'? Profit Good! Government Bad?
kefluv 11 months ago 6
@kefluv its because they are stupid, its not complicated at all, they are just stupid and easily manipulated they are too self absorbed with there love affair with Jesus to actually be informed or understand things like democracy and civil rights, they are savage and blood thirsty and righteous spurned on by men in nice suits talking about Jesus and taking there money just so they can have a persona "relationship" with the son of a sky god, their 2000 year old rock star
phoboskitty 11 months ago
@kefluv what's amusing is that the early christian church was very much concerned about the fellow man. everyone was encouraged to share with and care for the less fortunate among them and those with means would frequently donate to the leaders of the church to distribute to the poor. very much different from the beliefs now held by the christian right.

I’m moving up there!!! :-)
demmmmm1 11 months ago 4
@demmmmm1 You'd be welcome here! :D
Twinroads 11 months ago 4
@Twinroads Thanks. Exactly...I’d have no problem paying 6% or something for the knowledge that I’m taking care of. I have zero faith in the private insurance industry.
Anti-gov’t righties here will rip on the IRS, the post office, etc. Yet, I’ve never had an issue with the IRS or the post office. Never once. Can’t say the same for my private bank, credit card company, auto mechanic, cell phone company, it goes on and on. Greed just shouldn’t be part of the equation in health-2 much at risk.
demmmmm1 11 months ago
@demmmmm1 Indeed, and we actually pay less per person compared to the American system, and get better coverage for all of our citizens. Google "Healthcare Costs around the World" and check out visualeconomics' site. It's well done.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the States. America is of pivotal importance in my particular field of study and in many many others, but some of the lies spewed by some of your politicians are stupefying.
Twinroads 11 months ago 4
@Twinroads I’ll check it out. Thank you. The lies in our right-wing media are daily, all day. It’s impossible to keep up with them all.
When I found out the Republicans are trying to defund NPR, I decided to search my radio dial in the car to see what would remain if I didn’t have NPR to listen to. Not good. Plenty of right-wing radio, though.
Ciao!

Sheep.
JephRants 11 months ago
I guess you just don't watch Cenk that much. Sorry, but the only thing that's changed about him from a year ago is that he now wears a tie and has a bigger microphone.
Boomer1949 11 months ago
@bronzeownsu6 The End of Life planning was going to be paid by supplements, that was changed. Now, depending on your insurance co, may or may not be covered. End of Life planning is basically a legal agreement that lets your Doc and hospital know under what conditions you agree to "extraordinary" measures to be used to prolong your life. Many people choose not to have resuscitation, or to be hooked up to breathing machines. etc.
Boomer1949 11 months ago
It bothers me that Cenk would just mirror a white house video like that.
SirPwn4lot 11 months ago
@bronzeownsu6 Well, it has to do with a propaganda campaign spear headed by Palin where they used the End of Life plans made with guidance from your Doc, combined with a medical data base for effective treatment that will be monitored by an agency set up by the Gov. This was aimed at seniors to scare the shit out of them, creating the town hall protest against the health care reform bill.

Seriously it is sick. If I lived in the US, as I used to, I would return to Britain for something like cancer treatment. No sick loopholes, trumped up charges, pre-existing BS and psychopathic tendencies to try and deny care
Neanderthalcouzin 11 months ago
@Neanderthalcouzin Thanks for your opinion on something that you have no affect on and has no affect on you. A passer by's view of several topics mixed into one solution. Its sad to see that you cannot divide things as individual problems and then work for an individual solution. This is the way to gain a win for everyone. Stop recycling information you heard or read from one source. Go to all, see their view and not just demonize it. Then work towards offering a real win-win for U.S. Thanks
JephRants 11 months ago
@JephRants Actually this does affect me I have close friends who are severely affected by this, I have a very old friend with cancer who has lost her business, her home, even her pets.
