@zero937 It is a bikers choice throttle, but I get them from Middle Tennessee Cycles. You can find their listings on ebay. I thin they run around $70, but are very user friendly and work smooth. I have them on a few bikes of mine and have never had any problems with them at all.
Awesome stance on your bike , you really did a good job. The way you cleaned up the bars is terriffic. When you welded the rear section did you change the wheelbase, or leave it the same to re-use original chain? I've seen alot of these vlx bobbers, but your true hardtail blows them all away.
@43Blu Thanks. It is the stock wheelbase and stock chain on it. By dropping it down 7inches it changes the angle so I have the chain tenioners tight and a chain roller on it at well. Without that there is a lot of chain slap with it.
@skyjac92 Thanks. That metal flake is actuallyarts and craft flake in a small spray can from the craft store. Takes a few bottles of it, but ended up working great and saved me about $500.
BUT ... did your vlx originally have 1 or 2 throttle cables ? Mine has two! So I wonder how I can eliminate one to be able to use an internal throttle set up. Does that make sense?
@Wagadugu2 they all have a pull cable and a push cable as a stock vlx. I had a motion pro throttle tube setup on there before I just wanted to do something different and went with the internal throttle. You don't need a push cable to run the throttle on a vlx. The only one that matters is the pull cable to engage the throttle. If you look in my videos there is a video of the bike running and a couple of other bikes I built recently.
Great job! I am working on a shadow myself right now. How did you reduce from 2 to 1 throttle cable ? Did you split the throttle cable into two further down near the carb ?
@Wagadugu2 You can run just a single cable for the throttle. You can get an aftermarket harley single cable (pull) on ebay pretty cheap. You will nead to re thread the cable hole on it, but it is not that hard. I did the internal throttle on it to eliminate all the wires in the front cluttering it up. Can't stand a bike with a bunch of wires all over the front for controls. Should be one cable for clutch and one cable for throttle (IMO) Motion pro is the company to look @ for throttle options.
@Wagadugu2 you can run a single (pull) throttle cable on it with no problems. You will have to re thread the cable hole, but motion pro is the company to use for that stuff. I did an internal throttle because I have never seen it done on VLX and I can't stand bikes with cables hanging everywhere in the front of a bike.
One question, did you do it yourself? HAHAHA! Good job bro, looks great!

Nice job man, looks awesome, I like the way you used the old riser holes for switches, very clever.

side plates? You talking about the cheap pieces of plastic covering up the electrical under the seat?
jburns078jburns 11 months ago
I see you removed the sideplates from the frame wich usually ruin a shadow bobber.,
Very well done!
It " sits" right although the seat seems a bit awkward like this..Seems like you'll slide off onto the fender.
Anyway,
good job ,have fun with it!
