  • im only 14, but i really want to be a firefighter, my dad was one. can someone explain to me what a backdraft is?

  • @SuperPitbullMan a backdraft is when the oxygen supply is cut off from a fire and it burns down until it starts smoldering. Then the fire finds a new oxygen source (a window breaks, or someone opens a door), and the fire blows up. That's the basic concept. There are other thermal science aspects of it, but that's the gist.

  • that backdraft was pretty big wow!!!

  • Awesome video, its not a job its a lifestyle

  • This is so bad ass. I want to do something in my life thats heroic. And being a firefighter is it..

  • I've always wanted to be a firefighter, but since I'm not an American citizen yet, i am not qualified to be one. That's why I've decided to enlist in the military to be a citizen way faster than a civilian.

  • @SVFD3591 huh?

  • @queenbit01 lol nvm i viewed your profile. after i asked about the comment you posted reminded me of a local girl that busted her ass to become one of the best.

  • The only big difference between full time and volunteer is call volume. If there werent so many call all depts would be volunteer. My house runs 10-15 calls a shift, Theres no way to make sure you have adequate volunteers for all the calls. Thats why we get paid, not because we refuse to do it if we don't make money.

  • 70% are unpaid professionals

  • @firekilller13 actually I believe it's 80%.....not to argue your point or anything

  • Who would honest to god dislike this? really?

  • @thunderingherd21 assholes would dislike this, people without a heart

  • @theone2225 Cold mother fuckers.

  • Great video! I'm currently only a Calgary Fire Cadet, but it's definitely a job that aspires!

  • Being a firefighter is the best job in the entire world! You cant get this big of a family anywhere else! We are always there for each other, no matter where we are from! Im proud to say I LOVE MY BROTHERS/SISTERS! BrotherHood For Life!

  • 4 people wont die in car accidents when theyr saved by the ones theyr haten on.

  • I really like this video, can you make it so iPhones can watch it please?

  • i love it

  • HOOAAH! : D

  • :25,,,,Nice hole....now the get EFF off the roof already!

  • Anyone that fights fire, myself included, that says they do it for saving lives and all that jazz is full of shit, you guys know we do it for the rush LOL!

  • I want apply for firefighting when i hit 18 has anyone got any tips that could help me? any would be appreciated :)

  • @Masonblog be in very good shape and get ready for some tough training. and study your books hard, theres alot more to firefighting than u would think

  • @redneck123623 & Masonblog

you should probably take an EMS course, since now most firefighters are Paramedics. lots of studying. but in the end, it pays off, hell of a rush. Good Luck

  • we dont do it for the money, we do it to savd the lives of people we dont know, even the ones that dont respect what we do!

  • Love it! You did a great job putting this together!

  • Love it! You did a great job putting this together!

  • Nice video

  • it's hard to believe how many of us do this job for no pay!

  • @ndemt911

I am one of them i do it and don't get paid but I Love it !

  • @AmericanNinja85 Damn right. Us volunteers dont need finacial motovation to get out of bed and save peoples ass. We do it because we want to!

  • @ndemt911 we do this job for no pay for 1 reason, its in our blood, its something we love

  • @ndemt911 Amen brother! not many people recognize us either. went to a house fire once, and the rumors in town were bashing our department.

  • @ndemt911 i came from Chicago to be a volunteer in Tennessee! I wouldn't say i wouldn't go back but it would take a look to make me. do miss my fighting irish brothers though!

  • @ndemt911 70% of firefighters are volunteers and unpaid

  • @ndemt911 i agree. i do volunteer myself.

  • @ndemt911

    it just amazing

  • @ndemt911 I believe the statistic is 80% of firefighters are volunteer. Been a Volunteer Firefighter for almost 6 years now and I love every bit of it. We risk our lives for free! God Bless My Brothers and Sisters in the Fire Service......We Run In While Everyone Else Is Running Out!!!

  • @theone2225 yea i think it is like there are 900,000 fire fighters in the US and 600,000 are volunteers while the rest are paid and i like your comment at the end (First in Last Out) is my stations saying

  • @quinnman95 hell yea....stay safe brother

  • @theone2225 I do like your comment and im not trying to start a fight but i believe that anyone who is a firefighter (paid or not paid) is a hero. I don't think of a fire fighter any less even if they are paid because they risk losing everything as well as volunteers. Stay Safe!

  • @sshea1222 sorry.....not quite sure what I wrote? Cant seem to find my comment, could you refresh my memory?

  • good stuff i love it. It gets me so pumped when im at the station. Firefighting is my life and i wouldnt give it for the world. I dont know what i would do without this job.

  • Anybody knows what the heck was that at 2:03??

  • any thing from chemicals to a flash over

  • really badass i love it shows everyone what we go through everyday!!

  • Where did you get the pics? Because i'm looking for some cool FF wallpapers!

  • I am married to a firefighter so I am biased, but nice video.

  • I've been a Volunteer FF for Seven years, and I love it. I've been involved in Criminal Justice Field since I was 18, almost 10 years. I will say that I've expierence "The Brotherhood" stronger in the Fire Service then in Law Enforcement...

  • at 2:02 thats a great idea to breath in toxic smoke. ...please safety first

  • i may be just a volunteer firefighter, but i love the job!

  • Love the video well put together!

  • YES! Jersey City Ladder 2...and was that West Orange,NJ as well?

  • I know alot of these guys are saying FLASHOVER but in fact it is backdraft, this occurs when heat and heavy smoke and unburned fuel particles accumulate in a compartment or confined space depleting available air, when oxygen is reintroduced to the mix (opening a door or window) it completes the fire triangle which causes rapid combustion of said heat, heavy smoke, and unburned fuel particles. Fire Fighter/Investigator Newton County, Texas number 6914 great video though!!

  • Jarhead881...you are correct the front collapsed and forced air to the rear....

  • bad ass video man cant wait till you put another out. to all my brothers and sisters keep it safe

  • Great Video! Stay safe brothers and Happy Holidays!

    ENG41NE/RES45CUE MCFD

    Lt FF/EMT-219

  • good to see fellow smoke eaters in action

  • firefighter321123, At the 1min mark of the video that is called a flashover. Just about a firefighters worst nightmare. Look close at the video and you can see that everyone is pulled back with only one hose putting cooling water into the structure. They were expecting it to flash. First sign that a flashover is coming is thick heavy black smoke essentially boiling from every opening in the structure. Do a search at wikipedia for more detailed information.

  • most fun but dangerous thing i ever did great job on the vid thanks and keep them coming

  • God, please look after every single fireman across the globe!

  • i like the music and the job ... firefighter for ever

  • God bless Firefighters everywhere!

  • i love bein a firefighter, best frikin job ever!

  • @WillSmithsMom Dam straight

  • I believe the military, police officers, and fire fighters should be the highest paid jobs in America because they risk their life everyday for someone else. Oh and i cant forget about the paramedics and doctors which most doctors are paid good

  • nice video my granpa is a firefighter!!!

  • one of the best probaly the best tribute out there its amazing

  • that looks like a gas line let loose...that aint no backdraft

  • either that or it flashed over

  • @firefghter19 lol

  • That explosion at 1:00 looks like something BLEVE'd* inside. There's an initial blast wave, pushing the fire out the openings (container rupture), then moments later a second explosion and rapid combustion that ripples through the smoke (released vapours hitting the UEL when the initial shock wave recedes and draws in sufficient oxygen). I rather face a box of live ammunition than a box of rattle cans.

(*Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion aka Blast Levels Everything Very Effectively)

  • here in CA for the past few months i have noticed the public turning against firefighters. many police and firefighters are being laid off. some of the remarks in support of measure H in Stockton is just plane disgusting. but as history shows, it takes a major disasters for the public to realize that they do need firefighters. in CA that disaster will probably be an earth quake. its just too bad that its gonna cost so many more lives then it should.

  • Everyone like firefighters! they are the shit. Everyone hates cops they eat shit!

  • @zackswest1 shut up idiot

  • @RmsFootball75 its true though

  • do firefighters get paid more by their education and military experience? Please reply

  • @WavieeAlex No, but the military will get you more points on the civil service test.

  • Mmmm sound of that Q siren wrapped out... Get out of my way fuckers! Ha!

  • oh yeh duke air care support truck at 1:37 thats our second or third call after UNC air care

  • no better job in the world... even though im a reserve i absolutely love it

  • Is that Baton Rouge Louisiana fire dept. at 2:11?

  • Comment removed

  • @firefighter321123 SURE IS! Its A-1 out of staion 12

  • Hey,I am a 14 year old explorer...I just wanted to know what happened at around 1:00.Why did it do that. Please reply.

  • @firefighter321123 Most likely a ruptured gas line caused the explosion

  • @firefghter19 Thanks!!!

  • @firefghter19 not a straight up backdraft?

  • @firefghter19 looks like a giant back draft lol

  • @firefghter19 i thought it could be a big backdraft but a ruptured gas line does make more sense.

  • @firefghter19 its could also be the rear of the structure collapsed? Thats the way it looks to me.

  • @firefghter19 or maby backdraft?

  • @docman789 I don't believe it's a backdraft due to the fire that is already present. I'm thinking if it's anything other that the gas line that another room, behind the fire we see, flashed, or if it was an arson, there is a possiblity of a second starter or device the aronist could have planted.

  • @firefighter321123 Either that or could have been a back draft or a flash over

  • @Callmemrbest i dont think it was a backdraft cause that only occurs in the final stages of the fires life when the oxygen is depleted...this fire had plenty of oxygen by the self vent it did...it is a poss flash over thou

  • The explosion you saw was indeed a backdraft. No gas line inside that building would have been large enough to level the building as seen in the original video. It was not a flashover because it is impossible in a brick building as brick does not combust and also flashovers do not create that type of force, as backdrafts do. Also as you can see most of the flames come out, retreat, then the whole place goes down. The full video is on flashovertv under backdraft levels 2 story building.

  • @firefighter321123

I was 14 when I started the explorer program too. Now im 21 years old, full time, and loving it. It's a great job, stick with it, its well worth it.

  • @firefighter321123 Backdraft

  • Flashover baby!

Look it up on Youtube, it's hot smoke lighting up!

Something any firefighter do not want to get caught into.

  • Looks like BLEVE or smoke explosion

  • @firefighter321123 It could very well be a ruptured gas line, but smoke is an unburned product of combustion and at the right temp it will ignite and if the smoke is dense enough it then it will explode, such as what happened at 1:00

  • @firefighter321123 maybe even a flashover

  • @firefighter321123 :Was a Flashover , Very old structure, in Paris, TX , I saw it on discovery channel, maybe with theses informations you'll be able to find a complete video about it on the net.

  • @firefighter321123 i was kinda thinking the same thing.

    janesville, wi fire explorer 555

  • @firefighter321123 it wasnt a flashover or anything like that. The building fully involed had a top floor collapse that fell on to the lower floor causing them to collapse as well which blew out the walls and contents inside this fire occured in paris,tx acouple of years back.

  • @firefighter321123 complete structural collapse starting with the top floor. blewout the walls and the contents of the building into the street. Fire occured in paris,tx acouple of years ago.

  • @firefighter321123 it's in another you tube video it was a backdraft!
