  • I love the way the soothing ambient music goes so well with the smooth, graceful swimmers. The soundtrack to my butterfly would be something like the Village People's YMCA.

  • I am completely in awe of people who can swim like this.

  • i dont even know how to float in water why am i watching these videos? -.-

  • Their feet arent together!!!!! My coach tells us to wiggle:3

  • I LOVE THIS STOKE, in practice I would only do Butterfly! :D

  • no fear by tactful

  • i stil practice this stroke, i feel it so hard

  • Thank you. This video was great. I appreciated the under water and surface views. Made things a lot clearer to me. Extremely helpful.

  • AHA!!! that's why I always drowned doing my so called "BUTTERFLY" the mistake of me was I was flipping my foot and I easily get tired now I know It was just a simple dolphin kick?! sorry I'm still learning it's hard to learn alone... :))) haha

  • kontinuierliche Armbewegung.

  • hi! first, thanks for the video!! clearest of all the butterfly stroke videos ive watched so far.

    just a question, whats a "fin"? :O

  • @chern1172 check on the website, you will find the answer ;)

  • @chern1172 A fin is a training tool to develop your kick. You get monofins to help with butterfly kick and short scuba like training fins to help with flutter kick. I'm almost sure that Finis actually came out with fin that helps with breaststroke kick but I've never seen it in the flesh only online.

  • hey,i just wanna thank you for this amazing video,i have learnt this stroke thanks to the video and now i managed to swim the fly for an hour.

is it normal to feel a bit of pain around the hips and lower back when doing the kicks?

    thanks

  • beautyful!

  • I never feel bored to see her BeautyFly...

  • This clip is really good for learning. Very practical and details. Thanks for posting.

  • waaaa hands movement is complicated

  • Using this video ive managed to get the hang of butterfly in 2 weeks! The only problem is I still struggle with the breathing. I have to breath every 2 stokes ideally but then I find it hard to keep going. Breathing every one stroke is too exhausting. Means I can only do one or two lengths before stopping. : /

  • its mostly upperbody strength and technique and once you get it right then you'll know when your ready.

  • Umm you have to keep your legs together when you do butterfly stroke lol

  • I love this video it helped me improve my butterfly

  • 1 person still can't do it! =_=

  • After watching this video, I think that I can fix my errors this afternoon, when I go swimming. So excited!! \^0^/

  • This is a really helpful video for beginners, but if you want to make fly a heck of a lot easier, don't bring your arms all the way forward. Bring them forward so that they are about a two feet apart and then pull. Just focus on your kick mostly though. Your arms are only put in to keep you balanced. Just put all your strength and muscle to your dolphin kick :)

  • How is this not the first video that comes up when I searched "How to swim Butterfly"????????????????????????

  • Alot of people who teach this don't know how hard it is to do the butterfly. But I'm glad this video shows you the steps. Getting yourself to learn the kick and get your arms out of the water is not only very difficult but exhausting.

  • And just what is the point of butterfly? I know that freestyle is designed for speed, backstroke is designed for distance, but what would you use butterfly for?

  • @YouthFreedomFighters To torture the souls of swimmers everywhere. That's its purpose.

  • @YouthFreedomFighters I'd also like to know! What are the advantages of Butterfly over other strokes? Thanks so much for posting this video, I'm going to practice my dolphin now!

  • i can do the butterfly stroke great i just cant get air

  • this video actually helped :) im swimming my first buterfly in my first IM and i feel alitle better thanks to this video

  • @everybodyswim1 how far should your head dive back in after recovering your hands ??

  • I always wondered how deep you dive your head in after recovering hands. Is it better to have more amplitude with hips coming out of surface or less amplitude with entire body stay close to surface of water?

  • help pls.

for the dolphin, what angle should i be bending my legs for the kick? is 90 degree too much? i already know how to put my legs together for the kick, i just don't feel like going fast enough. i still go faster with freestyle kicks, even though the dolphin should be the fastest in water. so i know i'm doing it wrong. i'll go watch dolphin tutorial vids now. but any relevant reply would be appreciated.

  • Not too long (because too heavy) not too short (because not powerful) Standard/Medium size would be perfect and don't forget: Fins are just used to make you feel the dolphin kick movement, so you don't have to use strength so much.

  • whats this song called ?

  • @CANDYSKATER

    Tactful - No Fear

  • I find this video extremely helpful. I thank you greatly!

  • her style is extremely bueautiful

  • This is the best butterfly stroke video in youtube!

  • I wouldn't even dare attempt this stroke. I would probably last 10 metres before reverting back to front crawl or breast stroke. Great video though.

  • Beautiful video and style. Keep the good work! :)

  • cool, I was just wondering how get better endurance of this storke? I can only do 40m and then I get tired and can't lift up my arm. I was thinking of working on back muscle. Would that help?

  • @392023001 absolutely!

  • this is perfect. notwi completely get it

  • The thing about butterfly is that you have to learn it's accually a really relaxed stroke.. Just flow with the body.. Also your body follows your head so keep your head in the right directions.. Train a lot, that's just the best thing to do.. It never works perfect the first time.

  • After a couple months of endurance + patience + this video, now I can swim butterfly.

Before I dive into pool, i watch this clip, memorize every bit and then drill in the pool.

Thank a lot and i am really enjoying the pool now.

  • @realrascal Good job! I'm happy to hear that ;)

  • what's the ideal height for swimming?

  • @TheLeilisa This depends on the length of the pool you are swimming in. If the pool is Olympic sized then the ideal height is just under 50m. Basically the taller you are the faster you would be able to swim.

  • @TheLeilisa This depends on the length of the pool you are swimming in. If the pool is Olympic sized then the ideal height is just under 50m.

Basically the taller you are the faster you would be able to swim. Unfortunately you can't change your height to make yourself a better swimmer so you need to practice instead.

  • @turmin8or thanks. There is this product named" helpo growth formula" that i ve been using it for weeks, and actually can see the difference when i look into the mirror. Hopefully i will get over 6ft

  • thanks for the video, what is the songs name?

  • why does my head starts to move first? lols. so hard.

  • I have to do this on tuesday, hopefully i don't look like a drowning worm!

  • Well done, good tutorial. Now I just need to practice!!

  • im 17 and i just realize that i like swimming as a sports. and it frustrates me cause i dont have much time to practice and join competitions :(

  • One more thing to add. To avoid hurting your neck while adding the stroke, try to do dophin with arm beside your hips. You should be able to breath without your arms. It seems that your strokes are merely a support for your kicks thats the reason why dophin kicks is the most important part of the stroke :P Cheers

  • I hope that this would be helpful for others in the future. From my experience, I picked up Dophin kicks while kicking off the walls. Then underwater dophin. When you get to a point where you can control your speed underwater, when you can do it sideways or facing up, you are ready to work on your strokes.

With the strokes, please do not make the same mistake as I did. You make your first half of the strokes AFTER you kick not While you are kicking. Same with recovery.

  • @SeeDipFu Thanks for sharing your experience!

  • @SeeDipFu Thanks! I'm trying to visualize this advice..,.showing this proper movement on a video would help too (and showing incorrect coordination to contrast)...Great video. I'm getting there! Butterfly is my favourite stroke, but I'm still quite weak. :-)

  • good stuff.......hey i swim the butterfly too......(i used get 2nd or 1st in races)

  • Also, i'm not an absolutely amazing swimmer, but i found that once i got the arm movement correct, my whole body just naturally followed - undulating with 2 kicks at the right time and everything. Just clicked - felt completely 'with the flow', wasn't even thinking. Didn't even think it was as tiring as Frontcrawl and Backstroke. Keep trying everyone, once you get it, you'll definitely know and get that 'something just clicked' feeling.

    Happy swimming :) s'all fun :D

  • This video is VERY good for anyone wanting to learn or perfect their Butterfly.

I'm 20 years old and had NEVER even tried Butterfly before (cause it's the kinda thing that makes you look like a right idiot if you can't do it lol). Joined a Swimming Club and the teacher made me do it... looked like i was doing doggy paddle and drowning lol.

Just had a Sprint Swimming meet at the club... and after watching this video... i pretty much nailed it apparently :)

  • Hola! estoy aprendiendo a nadar mariposa asi que voy a probar a ver que tal me va y les cuento. Gracias por el video. Saludos!

  • If you start practicing the butterfly stoke, make sure that your legs, knees and feet are always touching each other.

Also, it's not only the legs and arms you move, it's your entire body. So move your hips up and down, and your legs will automatically follow.

Your head should be facing the end of the pool (where you're swimming towards), in order to maintain a perfect streamline. Also try to breath as less as possible.

At last: when your arms are in the air; keep your wrists stretched.

  • My dolphin kick is pretty strong but there are times that I swim slow and there are times when I go really fast. Why is it so?

  • this is the most helpful butterfly stroke video i've seen so far. thank you!

  • wow...dead spots!

  • That lady swims marvelously, makes me like wanting to swim right now !

  • Thank you so much!

    I became completely know . .

  • very useful... broken down the stroke very well, cammera angles are great

  • Would it help me to improve my dolphin kick if ill will practice with sport flippers? I've never been in swimming training but I think that i have strength to practice this style. I think that my body is going at bad angle because of kicks what are 50 dolphin and 50 frog style :D. sorry about bad english. What could i do to improve my bf?

  • @IcarusThe1

1/ Try to practice dolphin kicks with fins, so you won't make any frog kick.

2/ Fins are just used to make you feel the dolphin kick movement, so you don't have to use strength so much.

3/ try with fins-> step 1: dolphin kicks, step2: dolphin kicks+ arms breaststroke step 3: change your arm breaststroke in arms butterfly. If you can do step 2, step 3 won't be difficult for you. Finally, try without fins. It's very easy, you can do it;-)

  • @everybodyswim1 thank you for you advise! subscribed.

  • @everybodyswim1 what is fins?

  • @Khongorts Thank you for your message. I will buy fins and try the butterfly.

  • @everybodyswim1 What size of fin am I supposed to use? I have long fin and it was not easy at all... Shorter works better than too long?

  • Wow! This is really helpful! Thank you! You are awesome and cute too.

  • great vid

  • Helpful, thanks!

  • that pool is deep!

  • I really appreciate the fact that she was showing a Dophin kick +breaststroke. I am one of a few who (was) able to beat front crawl using breaststroke(one of the slowest swimming technique of all 4). But I was never able to pick up any other technique at all. Since Dophin kick is what takes the longest to learn, I can combine both so I can learn how to use this beautiful Butterfly stroke. Thanks for sharing.

  • That first girl has a nice tight booty! MMM!

  • can someone tell me the background sound of this video?

    thanks

  • Wow thats a really good S pull with her arms

  • her arms are going too far back, makes you more tired

  • Why use breastroke arm to practice the first kick ? What about doing one arm stroke to practice both kicks at once ?

  • I am a butterflier so i know how to do this.. i just showed my cousin this and she is getting better!! Thanxs soo much!

  • i think this video is really useful and nice. Thanks for posting it :)

i'm currently learning the butterfly and am at the breaststroke arm-dolphin kick stage...somehow, there's a tendency for me to lapse into the breaststroke kick at times though and when it happens it hurts my ankle somewhat.

  • @ngsansan If you want to learn faster and feel the good movements, you can practice with fins. Fins are so useful when you learn butterfly;) Keep it up!

  • @everybodyswim1 Thanks! From a non-swimmer a few months ago, i've grown to love swimming and enjoy its benefits.. will keep perservering at it :)

  • I definitely agree all the way. Since I haven't swam competitively in more than 2 years, I bought a pair of fins. After 3 days, they are already paying off big time. :D

  • @everybodyswim1 yes but if you use fins remember to stretch stretch stretch or you can get very bad calf cramps that take awhile to heal

  • I really like all your vids, thanks for sharing!!!

  • I agree that she could add a kick to her stroke. Good job!

  • This video has helped my lap swimming so much! Thanks!

  • can someone tell me what the name of the music

  • helpful thanks. i like the breaststroke part with the two kicks. im going to try that first.

  • Me too

  • This is a helpful demonstration. I definitely recomend doing lots of practice with the dolphine kick, it really helped me out.

  • great HQ quality, thanks!

  • Thanks good video.
