I would love to get a permaculture farm up and running here on Vancouver Island one day to have students come and see a working apermaculture farm model!
Yes! What the peoples of the world need is infrastructure, orchards, irrigation, sanitation and trained native advocates for that community style.
Three years, and there will be food for all. Seven years, and the mangos will be plentiful. The children will grow strong and tall, with many grandchildren to please the last days of their culture's "transition" generation. But therein lies the rub. That Beezelbub of Expansion will by then own them.
Sponsorship is self-sustaining because it is supported through income generated by paying students to each specific PRI. This is money brought in from other locations by people wishing to come for permaculture training purposes. These people realize that a portion of the money they pay will be used to sponsor local training. Prioritization of those who wish to attend will be determined by the local PRI. The principle criteria should be who has the most potential to teach permaculture .
I don't understand how sponsorship is self-sustaining--this is not meant as criticism, I am just curious how much sponsorship costs and what determines those that apply and get it from those that don't, and who is paying for the sponsorships
@octohorse though my 100 percent support goes to this concept of life ,I do agree with you , why sponsorship if the Land is there already all we need is the information on the positive proven way of practice to do it ourselves , I reminding everyone here with the words of Mr Lawton " this is no Sky rocket science" anyone can practice permerculture everywhere
i was inspired by the permaculture ideas to raise a question that many children ask.. and many adults ignore.. why are there so few food bearing plants in public places on earth?
@wedieindisgrace I agree. My plan is to start off in urban districts through hydroponics. Also look outside, I don't know where you live, but probably there are some trees outside; purely ornamental in usage and positioning. Now image all of those trees in every district were fruit trees or food trees! There would be no more need for money and no more suffering! Everyone can be provided for with the proper application and use of current science and technology.
the why is easy... it's fear. Read "One Straw Revolution" and you will easily understand the ethics of why it should be done, and why there is down right fear by our world wide governments about it.
@ugotpimp It is doubtful Geoff would have the time to appear on every major news outlet. Also, permaculture is a revolutionary idea for our time, so widespread acceptance will take a while to achieve. Even if it never threatens armed revolution or the like, its precepts hint at a change of paradigm for many.
@ugotpimp Because it cuts deep into big business profits. You gotta know that profit is made of the problems and misery of others. No misery no profits...
@Josephjoel3 There is a way to have a "pay-it-forward business. There is a way to create heaven on earth right here, right now. There is a way to create a sustainable, ongoing, secure, residual income. Just have to open your mind a little. think outside the box a little. No, i don't go around & "sell stuff" Just help people, like you and me, make our dreams come true.
@liagarden At the time when I wrote that comment you replied to, I was a naive fool. I have now come to realize that mankind is not only headed for disaster but is right now disastrous. I no longer have any intention to help or save "mankind", which is only an abstraction, do you even know who or what you are going to save? A dream is a dream time to wake up friend and give up!
@Josephjoel3 I am an optimist, because I am a mother. I have a child, and I work for his life. I plant a tree so that his children may climb it's limbs and enjoy it's fruits for the next 60 years--I will not be here. U have no vision, my friend. I am building a family legacy--generational wealth. I went to art school in the 60's,sold crafts on the streets of Berkeley, Westwood, Laguna Beach. I lived for myself, my pleasure. At 35 I had a child. U don't do it to "save" mankind.U do it for love.
@liagarden I have nothing against anything you have said. Only that it will be the privilege of your child to maybe taste the sweet fruit, and that's a very big maybe considering what man is and what we are doing to the planet at the time that I am writing this. I wish you luck in your efforts!
5 stars by the way, I think this is a fantastic initiative and a way for people to use local knowledge to earn a sustainable living through education/ecotourism.
permaculture is an unnecessary term to me, since it seems like a subset of environmental engineering with specific motivations, but i share those motivations and am really inspired by Geoff
They did use two existing words though.. permanent.. agriculture... permaculture! "Sustainaculture" might have been a little less ambitious, but let's not forget it needs to be catchy too!
Hello, Im 21, from Seattle and have been reading book after book about my local plants and trying to grasp ways to create permacultural gardens for suburban backyard safety net design.
My goal is to learn all I can and use my website and design knowledge to create simple visual websites of design for my neighbors and others to understand.
I would really like to be plugged into a functioning permaculture program of any sort and was wondering if you would send me informational advice?
Imperialism: the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence.
So, the work being done is the opposite of imperialism. Nice try, though.

A single term is a waste of time in my opinion. Definitions get foggy due to people substituting single terms for their beliefs in their own words.
