The Icom 703 Plus and the Yaesu 817ND are two great radios. They are however, two different beasts. The 817 is compact, but no internal antenna tuner and only 5 watts max—a true QRP radio. The 703 is capable of 10 watts and has the build-in tuner. I wouldnt give up either one. ++But++ if I had to choose between one or the other, I would choose with the 703 since its the best of both.
Thanks for your comment. I think most of us that enjoy QRP find it much more satisfying when you're able to make a low-power contact while others are using a kilowatt of power. The highest power I ever run is 100 watts. Nothing more. But, I do really enjoy QRP-- and with code, you really need very little power anyway.
Thanks Marky. I agree. The 817 and z100 are pefect mates. Not sure if you notice the black duct tape that I use to keep the two together. 73 from Huntsville.
WOW! :)

Yes, indeed. QRP is much more fun than QRO-- besides, QRO takes too much battery power when operating mobile or portable. :-)
