Great video but Mizzi could u help me with something. I am a anti clockwise skater and when I spin I can't seem to get the weight on your blade right so I always fall over because my back if the blade hit the ice or my pic goes into the ice. Also should I be spinning on right or left foot I am not sure. I do all my jumps anti clockwise but I am not sure which way to spin
thankyou so much !! I have been trying to learn this for AGES, you helped loads :-) please make more help videos. Could you make one for scratch spins? :-D
@MyFudginBrother So i take it someone learning a salchow is as experienced as someone learning a double axel? i would call up to flip beginners. but its all personal opinion. This point is that this is for people who are BEGINNING salchow.
this video is really goood :) iv watched some from professional skaters and i understood this one much more :) cant wait till monday when i can try it out! thanks x
i recently have come into to ice skating and i am getting coached i am very accident prone and i am very scared of doing a one foot land and jumping in the air will affect me in anyway or make me go for it more
How do you call it when you do a inside 3 turn, put your skate in the ice (I don't know how you call it in english), jump from a back outside edge and land on a back outside edge? Could you please help me with that one?
By the way, thanks for this video, it's been a great help !! 5 stars ;p
Can you make a loop help video? I have watched every one of them on youtube an I don't get it! I have been working on loops for maybe 2 months. But I don't practice it as much as I should.
The part I'm still struggling with is the 3 turn. I know it's a very basic move in skating, but I can't stay moving backward for too long after turning without overbalancing and putting my foot down. And if I do manage it, I don't have enough power left to swing my leg round and do the jump.
Have you any tips on how to improve a basic 3 jump?
Hi, i like your videos.. you really do help me.. i do have one problem though, i'm trying to learn how to do the mazurka jump, but i can't find a help video online anywhere.. is it possible that you could make one? Please let me know.. Ty <3
After you have done the 3-turn, use your free leg to swing your body around and kick UP.
Its hard to explain, but if you watch the video carefully, you will be able to see exactly how my leg swings through and kicks up. After the 3-turn you should kick your free leg up and jump. The swinging through part should happen naturally.
If you think of the backward inside edge as a backwards J on the ice, then you don't really need to worry too much about your leg coming thru. If you ride that entry edge as long as you can to make it look like a backward J on the ice, then you almost *have* to start bringing your free leg thru in order to complete the jump.
And it's an easy movement on a single. Don't force it or muscle it. Just ride the edge and it almost jumps itself.
Thanks for the video but how long do you need to hold the edge before you do the jump because I have had two coaches recently and they say different things. Also an alot of videos on youtube they do not seem to hold the edge. Please help thanks :) P.s your videos are really helpfull and I love the fact you jump CW lol
It depends on the skater, Dont mean hold the edge for too long. Just long enough so that its not rushed.
You dont want to do a quick spinny 3-turn. Thats why i mentioned counting 1-2-3and4.. Just hold it for a second, if you count the 3-turn it reminds you to hold your edges and not rush the take off.
The reason most skaters dont hold it, is becuase they go faster, but they will ALL count on the 3-turn. Especially with doubles and triples.
Yes, counting out the Salchow really helps. I tell all my students this. Lots of skaters rush the entry, but if they just count 1-2-3-4 as shows in this video, it makes a huge difference.
Also, I tell people to make a backwards J on the ice on the Salchow entry edge, so they know they're holding it long enough. If you're a right-handed skater, your entry should look like a nice big backwards J on the ice.
I'm just learning my salchow, and your 1,2,3-4 tip really helps!!! thanks so much :) xxx
