RIP Oskar Werner and Simone Signoret. Both passed away within a year of each other. He was 62 and she was 64.
I wish the whole film was on Youtube. I wish it was on TCM too. :( I love Oskar Werner. I first saw him in Fahrenheit 451 in which he played Montag and then I saw him in Jules et Jim (translated Jules and Jim) after loving his performance in Fahrenheit 451.
Rarely would Hollywood would allow such a couple on the screen. ( By Holly wood's standards, they are middle aged ha! ) ..but it's this very uniqueness ( for films) that adds to the chemistry . And their truly incredible performances....They say actors are seeking truth in their performances? Oh my lord, the well spring of truth pouring from Simone and Oskar ! Some of my favorite scenes of all films.
It would be great to see some more clips from this wonderful film. Oskar Werner was on top form...Saw Simone Signoret in Madame Rosa on tv some time ago....one of the best!!
I love the scene where Oskar Werner embraces Simone Signoret when she's reading to him. It's so tender, and loving and totally believable...It always makes me sigh.
The chemistry between them on this film was awesome. I always wanted a man to respond to me the way Oskar responded to her in this film. You wont believe the fantasies this movie produced in me at such a young age.

@richl Same here. I'm surprised that I remember so much of this film even though most of it was over my head.

Definitly this tandem Signoret-Werner save this movie, their work is the best of this film; of course with the music of Enest Gold.
