@SweetJaneofGoth These hippies had courage, many got their heads bashed and some were killed for protesting the viet nam war and for equal rights. They did change the U.S. How many women pilots, truck drivers, ceos, mayors doctors lawyers police and fireman, electricians etc were there versus today?
@raiderzog Like my grandpap says - "Tell that jackass if women are doing such a good job why the hell is everybody getting poorer and every corporation more corrupt than ever?" Don't you such luv grandpap? He's too old to give a shit about gender politics.
@SweetJaneofGoth All those kids drafted and sent to nam could not even vote,so they had no say in it. 1971 18 yr olds got the right to vote who was the driving force behind that. It wasnt the old status quo. You must be talking about people like Dick Cheney,Gingrich, oreilly and all those chickenhawks who used deferrments to get out of nam but now they want to be war mongers

@moekanz This isn't about whose rich, its about power. They control over 80% of the world wealth. If this isn't stopped, there will be a repeat of the great depression, only global and there will be mass poverty and loss of life.

To gronlaf. Let me qualify what I have said. The movements of those days did not "wake everyone" to the 'truths" but did wake up a large part of the population at the time. The majority of the people were talking and debating about what these movements were saying. Unfiortunately the CIA found drugs could hamper the movement and started their campaing importing huge amounts of drugs to stupify the people. All the way up to crack. I lived throug those days and saw the changes.
Amazing the strength of the reactions caused by a bunch of people simply dancing and having fun. But then, we kind of suspected all along that it would shock everyone.
To Review Your Choices 75: after doing considerable research on why our society "turned out to be They changed it into the world we're living in now: egocentric liberalism overkill. Well done" I can firmly tell you that it was not the Hippies that turned the world as you describe it. To further understand you should look up "The Century of The Self" and discover Edward Bernays.
I would have been the happiest person ever if I had been born in 1947 and died in 1992 or something, I just so badly wish i'd been alive for that time. now, at least in britain everyones becoming more and more serious, half the country is pensioners and the worlds probs never gonna be fun again... just too bad i was born 1996, I would have KILLED to be alive then.
The Hippies and all the other movements of those times were not naive. I lived through it. They did change the world. Maybe not as much as they would have liked to but they achieved many fantastic goals. One of which was to end the war in Vietnam. If it weren't for the Peace movement the war would have gone on much longer. The 60's changed many things in our culture, music, peotry, art, afety awareness, economic awareness, US Foreign Policy awareness and more. You must to be Naive not see that!
You're right. They did change the world. They changed it into the world we're living in now: egocentric liberalism overkill. Well done.
P.S. Should you ever run into Vietnamese people old enough to have experienced the war there, don't tell him it was pot-smoking students with a bad taste in music who defeated US aggression in Vietnam. Your point would be lost on them.
@vanderbiltst no they were not, its kind of oxymoronic to think anyone would have thought that. that movement coupled with others was an awakening of truth to the world and how things really worked. todays youth are facing the same level of a threat to their civil liberities but have become so indoctrinated with lies and falsehoods that they will not fight for their right to eat good clean healthy food, take a plane without being molested. etc...
I'm so so very sad to have missed those days, now I'm forced to move along with this generation, I'm really just hoping we go back, but it will NEVER EVER be what it was, and I missed it, grew up with parents who seen it, and wore the clothes but never did it, call them selfs hippies but dont know the meaning I would do anything to go back really...
ik hou hier wel van...de muziek en vooral die video...die vrijheid van toen......moet eigenlijk nu ook wel kunnen maar ja de wereld wil niet........maar de music is nice...very nice!
but im a hippie and im bringing bk the revolution of 1967!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH FREAK OUT IN PEACE N LOVE GO HIGH IN THE FLOWER MEADOWS MAN...
back in the early 60s with the whole LSD thing, it made us want to rebel against our elders and the traditional conservitave ways of the 1950s (my teen years).... is it so strange that our children rebel against us? all of us young adults in the 60s started the idea of thinking for ourselves and rebelling from "the man" except now some of us have become that dictatorlike parent that they themselves wanted to get away from..... are you one of them?(withinyouwithoutyou fadeout)
That part in Nice Dreams when Tim Leary gives them the "key" is funny ... about 67... For some reason whenever I watch Woodstock footage or read about the hippie movement or even when I listen to music from that era, I get a sense of despair. All those people with so much momentum and idealism.... but what is there left to show for it except for nostalgia... ?
@ausfoolia1111 LSD just turn your brain upside down. Everything that you saw is not real, it´s just that your brain is confused. Don´t fall for drugs. And yeah, i´ve been there.
i really wish i was alived in the 60s...all the free love and believing we could change the world. there was so much hope for the future. but that's all gone now.
I remember those years well. It was then when I had a naive notion that LSD would change the world for the better. As it turned out my best friend who was five years older than myself took a trip from which he never returned. He was a latent schizophrenic. For this reason I am in agreement with Dr. Albert Hofmann when he said that a person must be mature and have a solid relationship with reality before going on a trip. Minors and people with developing minds should not trip.
"Tune in, turn on, drop out"....It was that message By Leary which brought much death by drug overdose, suffering and a nations decline. I know. I was there.
Oh I may sound really uncool here bcos I'm too young to remember the 60's but drugs are for people who don't feel strong enough to change the times without chemicals. I'm all for peace and love and great music but drugs are a cop out but maybe I'm just too young !
no habra nada komo los 60s, la decada de la verdadera buskeda de amor y paz de una generacion hambrienta de estos 2 conceptos k pueden darle al mundo el mejor ingrediente k necesita, buena suerte...
i want to start the new revolution of the hippies with many other young people like me
i hope the 60s repeats its self but with moden inflants making it grooveyer
and it said the future will have holograms , imagine rainbows with colurfull flower power at the end came jumping out of computers and tv screens, and other media
il riusultato di anni di innaggiare a regole comuni forti paralleli ad uno sviluppo dell libertà individuli è scoppiata nella voglia di uscire dagli schemi fatta carne
The youth movement was a rejection of the global might-makes-right culture of kill thy neighbour for his wealth. It was an artful statement by the strong educated youth to the war culture: "You are filth and comedy" - and the whole the global intellectual base heard them, and agreed. They VERY much changed the world - along with others crying the same melody of 'oneness, or tragedy'. Now? Russia is changed, and many other peoples' groups. Few countries today do not want "piece and love".
this was a magical time; briefly; the media and tourists came in and ruined everything; and the hard drugs and crime made everything crash and burn....all they wanted was for everyone to love one another--they weren't just a bunch of dirty greasy hippies...they wanted another way to make the world a happy place...a positive time....now the ones that remain had to change from those free-spirited ways in order to survive nowadays...
I would definitely want to be apart of that. Rather than be some tight ass in a suit. Possibly many turned into a tight ass in a suit. But hey, atleast they had a time where they actually lived.
Thanks:) only kidding in my reply to your earlier comment., all comments appreciated. Been listening to your TRANCE LOVE AIRWAYS live. very nice vibe:) I'll check out more!
Hippiness was the gradual blooming of a wonderful idea...but sadly doomed to flounder ,corrupt and fail most especially because of the heavy drug experimentation. The drugs made people think that they were expending out but in fact were crashing inwards. Sadly, hippiness did not lead to happiness. Ironically most of the survivors of that era form todays young seniors who pretty much sold out in the end to everything they were against
@missionfarstar yeah, they grew up like, Nancy Pelosi, um, I mean like Michael Moore,,, Linda Ronstadt- wait maybe they didn't grow up but they did get old and fat
@missionfarstar no they havn't plus some of the top scientists of today all use psychedelics like Dr Kary mullins noble prize winner for the invention of P.C.R and theres loads more
@missionfarstar its gonna happen again, i can litterally feel it happening, (and no im not on drugs) a "hippy lifestyle" is gonna uprise again, jus look at wats happening in america today, its similar to the 60s only its alot worse.......i bet the second rising of hippies will be alot more diverse than it was in the 60s......and there will probably be less drugs, usually people learn from their mistakes you know
i want to start the new revolution of the hippies with many other young people like me
i hope the 60s repeats its self but with moden inflants making it grooveyer
and it said the future will have holograms , imagine rainbows with colurfull flower power at the end came jumping out of computers and tv screens, and other media
I'm glad all those greasy ole' "hippies" are gone. They weren't nothing but a bunch of dope smokin' rebels. Back in my day, we were doing the Charleston.
The hippie generation created the foundation for all music that were produced after 1969. Of course influenced by all music that were produced before 1966.
It´s just the circle of life and I remember this era as very positive besides of all victims of heavy abuse. So to all of you old hippie friends that didn´t make it:
There were a lot of people that did not survive the trip. The big bummer was, a lot went back to school and came out worse than the establishment that they rebelled against. They ruined the economy with their selfishness and greed. Did away with pensions etc! It was still a good time!
@candybeetch213 come to california, raves have taken over, but there is no message behind the ravers, there is just drug use and over embellishment in music

Without naive dreams, no world can be ever changed.
We are now seeing, in our times, what does it mean to have no dreams, no perspectives, no hope, no future.

Oh I may sound really uncool here bcos I'm too young to remember the 60's but drugs are for people who don't feel strong enough to change the times without chemicals. I'm all for peace and love and great music but drugs are a cop out but maybe I'm just too young !

Few countries today do not want "piece and love".
fuhmeregan 1 year ago 2
this was a magical time; briefly; the media and tourists came in and ruined everything; and the hard drugs and crime made everything crash and burn....all they wanted was for everyone to love one another--they weren't just a bunch of dirty greasy hippies...they wanted another way to make the world a happy place...a positive time....now the ones that remain had to change from those free-spirited ways in order to survive nowadays...

Hey Kids-Summer of 1966 was the real summer of love in SF before they Hype & tourst want-to-be's showed up.
To quote some one else who was there.
Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead.
"The Summer of Love was pretty much the death knell of what was happening,
of the little renaissance that we had in
San Francisco in the mid-1960s,
If you ask anybody who lived in the
Haight-Ashbury before the Summer of Love, theyll all tell you the same thing."

I would definitely want to be apart of that. Rather than be some tight ass in a suit. Possibly many turned into a tight ass in a suit. But hey, atleast they had a time where they actually lived.

@missionfarstar its gonna happen again, i can litterally feel it happening, (and no im not on drugs) a "hippy lifestyle" is gonna uprise again, jus look at wats happening in america today, its similar to the 60s only its alot worse.......i bet the second rising of hippies will be alot more diverse than it was in the 60s......and there will probably be less drugs, usually people learn from their mistakes you know
arab3515 1 year ago

The hippie generation created the foundation for all music that were produced after 1969. Of course influenced by all music that were produced before 1966.
It´s just the circle of life and I remember this era as very positive besides of all victims of heavy abuse. So to all of you old hippie friends that didn´t make it:

There were a lot of people that did not survive the trip. The big bummer was, a lot went back to school and came out worse than the establishment that they rebelled against. They ruined the economy with their selfishness and greed. Did away with pensions etc! It was still a good time!
