As far as your observation at the 4:27 mark, The backup Firefighter does have his foot on the hoseline and is pulling upward. This technique is done to transfer the nozzle reaction to the ground so that the firefighter does not have to take all of the nozzle reaction. What causes the kink is the nozzle reaction when the bale is opened fully not the technique itself. The same technique is applied to both lines, only brand X kinks when you open the bale fully
The Brand X has less reach and is in the air less time, therefore hitting the ground quicker as a full stream before it is really broken up into droplets by the wind. As we all know, Smooth Bore nozzles are primarily for interior firefighting which is where we will get the full benefit of these characteristics that this equipment offers us.
At 4:20, you are correct, more water is hitting the ground with the brand X compared to the Key Hose. The reason for this is because the stream of the Key Hose is in the air longer and further due to its superior reach, therefore the stream is broken up into droplets by the wind and much of it is blown away instead of most of the water hitting the ground.
at 4:20, note that less water is hitting the ground per sq. ft. on the Key hose whereas the the Brand "X" as a more concentrated stream of water hitting the same spot...and at 4:27, the backup firefighter is forcing the hose to kink by holding his foot on it and pushing upwards...doesnt look too superior based on observations here.
