She would be better off going to an NA meeting, since "her story" involves drugs besides alcohol. NA in my experience tends to have many other advantages over AA as well.

How about just quitting drinking through your own power which is what you're doing in AA anyway, just giving AA the credit and learning some snazzy new slogans? There is no "working the steps", just taking control and responsibility over your own behavior. Period. AA is just there to convince you to give it credit for what you're doing yourself already.

Wow.... just read some of the comments on here. Very disappointing. As a 19-year sober AA member, I am sad to see so many negative comments from fellow AA's and others. The 12-step program works, for those who work it. Sadly, there are many who aren't willing or capable of 'getting it'. It's kinda like having cancer. Just because you get treatment, doesn't mean the treatment works 100% of the time. However, we do believe that as long as someone is sucking air they have a chance.

Despite not having much time for AA, which I believe to be religious indoctrination at it's worst, I still respect their wish for their members'anonymity. That is absolutely disgusting how they have pursued her out of that meeting where she is trying to get help.
I thought AA must remain free from the public,press, and films, least problems of money, property, and prestigue, divert them from their promary purpose. (I bet there are alot of celebrities in the california meetings.)

AA's book clearly states that the program will not work for those who are CONSTITUTIONALLY INCAPABLE of being honest (with theirselves, other people, and God). She will fail at life until she learns that all decisions have consequences, and so will ANYONE ELSE!
