The arrangement is certainly worse than when Queen does it, but Roger has always sung it in this key, and on the Queen+Paul Rodgers tour they played it in D, as they do here.
All singers have different voices. I Want To Break Free suits me best in F#, a whole step above the original, but that doesn't mean I am better than Roger or Freddie.
@trumsolon Roger has never sung this, Freddie did. As far as I know. But Roger always had a higher voice than Freddie, so, the fact he's dropping the key means he's getting old.
Are you a guy or a gal?! 'cause singing this song in F# for a man has to be quite hard...
@TheMarkKnight If you can sing it in its original key when you are 60 (when this was uploaded, he's 62 now) then good for you but most people's voices do change when they get older. Bruce Springsteen is a good example, but that doesn't change they fact they are still good singers
thekeyboard guy is Paul Carrick from ACE back in the day? and the piano players gary brooker this concert was a small audience got some good tunes on it there just not on here
Well, you know, as far as I remember, Freddie also sang I Want To Break Free live in D major rather than the original E.
