  • #1 hit on the Billboard country chart for 1 week in 1974

  • @theonlymoo5e .. this song was #47 on billboard, but it was #1 on the country charts.

  • @jammymor yeah, #47 on the Billboard pop chart, #1 on the Billboard country chart.

  • Why do I get the feeling that a little idiot named Justin stole lyrics from Charlie Rich. It makes sense, because Charlie Rich has more talent than every other pop singer now. Surprising coming from a dude who's 14.

  • This is real music....Nothing compares to this today......from Country to Pop...

this is great music...from a beautiful voice... Mr Charlie Rich....sure miss him..

  • Take that rap and the rest of that crap and have a bon fire. I'll take smooth singing Charlie Rich all night long, anytime !

  • isn't this great

  • when country music was good

  • Yes, it was definitely recorded during his time at Groove Records, and it was a cover version as well (I'm unsure who did the original, but it also has versions by Tennessee Ernie Ford and Patsy Cline). It was unreleased until 1974; it went #1 on the Country chart near the end of the year, made the top 50 of the Hot 100, and appeared on the Easy Listening (now Adult Contemporary) chart. As always, Charlie put feeling into this, and the quality is great! R.I.P. 12/14/32-7/25/95

  • He had an LP album Called "She Called Me Baby" and I haven't found this song on any other LP or Cd, but I will keep looking. I guess this is my favorite.

  • Does anyone know if this song is on any of the CD's?

  • old patsy cline song charlie did a good job singing it thanks for posting!

  • Carska pesma.

  • may have done poorly on the pop c harts, but the silver fox hit #1 on the country chart in 1974......

  • Definitely love this album. Have the LP, actually all his albums. Used to listen to relax in evening after work. Great post, thanks.

  • My favorite song when I drank. Actually not so bad, now that i've sobered up.....

  • Wow, thought only the late, great Patsy Cline sang this song. This is as good a version as hers, a little different, but still a good one. Thanks for posting it.

  • THE BEST !!!!!

  • Patsy Cline does an AMAZING cover of this as well.

  • you sure this was recorded in the 70`s. sounds like it was earlier.

  • @bishopaz : This was likely recorded between 1963 and '65, during Charlie's (then) unsuccessful stint with Groove and RCA.

  • @nickellodeon55 thanks for the feed back.

  • @bishopaz - actually I'm not sure when it was recorded - according to the Wikipedia page for Charlie, it charted in 74 - so I just assumed.........

  • @frentzbravo7 The exact recording date is 4 February 1965. In 1974, when Charlie was having his big hits on the Epic label, his old record company RCA put out this old recording (produced by Chet Atkins) that hadn't been released at the time.

  • @frentzbravo7 .. this song was recorded in 1964 in nashville, but released in 1974. it was #47 on billboard, but #1 on country chart... great song.

  • @bishopaz ... you are right.. this song was recorded in 1964.. it was not released until 1974... the song was #47 on billboard, but was #1 on the country charts... great song.

  • tears comes to my eyes each time I hear this song.

  • Charlie's version is quite possibly the best, sung damn near perfect .

  • A very beautiful song!

  • How could there possibly be any singers today who will measure up to artistry of guys like Charlie Rich? Impossible, isn't it?

  • go check out One Eskimo...they did a damn fine remake of this

  • @gypsymomma41 One Eskimo is a great version. Also, Candi Staton does a great version too....

  • @Michele0403 ..agreed!!! Love the Candi Staton version! I should have mentioned that. :)

  • I truly love this song!! Beautiful!!!

  • how many ppl did this song?!

  • @jenene84 that's what i said. lol

  • Where are the stars now? Not one deserves that title among the new crop of clones.

  • Thanks for the lyrics! Such an improvement over the static-picture-and-nothing-else songs on here. I just heard Kandi today and have been exploring the different versions of She Called Me baby, and this is quite a rendition.

  • Ditto. Ditto. DItto.

  • @myself248 same here. I've listen to the original done by Patsy Cline in '63 then to Candi Staton redoing it r&b style. Kandi is great with Candi doing the chorus

  • @bestpal1 , Patsy Cline was not the original singer of this song.

  • what a class man this man was, a pleasure to have heard him

  • Sorry but tis son actually was a number one it went number 1 on december 71974 for 1 week. :-)

  • such a fox the Silver Fox
