I didnt drink OR smoke ciggarettes before smoking weed. Its been years and still weed is the only "drug" i use. it is not a gateway drug, and is much less harmful than alcohol.

Thank you for this. I do not believe that Marijuana is a Gateway Drug. I think that the whole term Gateway Drug is an excuse for those who want something to blame for the things that they got themselves into. Yes, Marijuana usually is the first drug that people tend to try, but the drugs people try are things they try on their own. They chose it on their own, and it's something they probably wanted to try long before they had ever tried Marijuana.

I'm surprised that you, a very outspoken vegan, would bash marijuana. It's a 100% natural plant, and can be baked in brownies, cookies, cake, etc., and also taken as a THC pill (although much harder to attain) as to avoid smoke inhalation.

It's really messed up that alcohol and cigarettes are legal but marijuana isn't. Honestly, so many horrible things can come from alcohol and cigs, but marijuana in its natural form is very safe.

Everyone who has the want or need for self medicating through drugs and/or alcohol has a reason for doing so subconsciously. Neurological imbalances, traumas, genetics, etc. We have to be smart,& in touch with ourselves early enough to recognize we have tenancies. We don't need a gateway drug because certain people, beyond a doubt are just flat out inclined to fill a void that they aren't aware exists but is there and they will try and fill with substance abuse, gambling, sex, shopping, etc.

I know many people that smoke marijuana and do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. I've done my share of non-harmful and some harmful drugs. I have not touched cigarettes. I smoke weed, takes some psychedelics which I have learned to be the least harmful leaving you basically unscathed. And I will drink alcohol on occasion, maybe ones or twice a month. And honestly, my life has hugely benefited from my experiences. As long is it doesn't get in the way or become a habit.

I have never smoked cigarettes or drank, yet I smoked marijuana a few dozen times. I don't consider weed as an actual drug. I mean sure, it does get you high and whatnot. But it can also be used for medical reasons (for example, for cancer patients or people with bulimia or anxiety, depression etc.). Everyone in my family does drugs. The heaviest of them. Heroin, coke, alcoholism, etc. I never wanted to touch any of it because I didn't want to be like any of them in any type of way. I don't care how "fun" it can be, I have a great time without any of it and I'm very proud to say so! My boyfriend is a drinker and smoker. He's starting to get worse with the pot. Smoking more, and more often. And spending more on it. Its a waste in my opinion, but as long as I know I'm making good decisions. :)

I agree with Devvable that you cannot get addicted to weed. I smoked for 60 days straight once and then just stopped for a few years. But when I stopped...nothing happened. Not so with alcohol (or even cigs) and watching that with your Mom must have been painful. But weed & hemp can and do SO much good too.

I def started with cigs, stealing my moms... dont smoke anymore.. but I didnt get into alcohol until i was like 22.. And I dont drink anymore either. Every now and then a beer with dinner. ANd Im a bartender.. Alcohol is one of the heaviest drugs ever.
My dad smoked pot and still does, and because of that I don't get to see him anymore. He used all his money on it. My mom had to work with a 2 year old at home and a baby in her belly. He was a nice person when he wasn't high or drunk, but he liked being high and drunk better than reality. Once I turned 4, my mom couldn't deal with it and we left. Thanks to drugs, I have only seen my dad once every four or so years. Thanks to my mom, I have a better life.

Actually, I know a lot of people that started smoking pot before they smoked cigarettes. And a lot of them started smoking and drinking at the same time due to a lifestyle change (going to college.) I think that pot itself is not a gateway drug. Because it is illegal, you HAVE to get it through illegal means, and that means coming into contact with drug dealers, who probably also deal different types of drugs. And their goal is to get you to try those other drugs.
Also, i have done all three. I am drinking a rum and coke as we speak....But dont blame the substance. Blame the idiots who go WAY overboard and smoke two packs a day, giving themselves and everyone else cancer, or at least the risk. The people who drink and drive, or drink too much and do stupid shit to put themselves or others in danger. Or the people who smoke marijuana and drive. @hnye There are no consistent effects of marijuana or alcohol. Alcohol can make people chill out and laugh a lot too. It can make people more friendly and social. While on the other hand weed can make people disoriented, anxious, nauseous etc.

I know this from seeing it, and from personal experience. When i drink i am happy, and laugh a lot, but i also sing at the top of my lungs, makeout with random guys, dance in the middle of the road, ALONG with all my drunk friends.

Also, I have neighbors that drink all the time and not only do they "look like it"...there are always late night and very loud arguments which are quite sad. I think most people don't drink with the idea of what the next day will bring. If they did do the water thing...it would get in the way of "their high"...imho.

The first drug people use is called caffeine. The second is often alcohol or cigarettes. Cannabis was actually commonly used medicine throughout the US until 1937 when Congress made it more difficult to use. I know many people that smoke marijuana and do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. I've done my share of non-harmful and some harmful drugs. I have not touched cigarettes. I smoke weed, takes some psychedelics which I have learned to be the least harmful leaving you basically unscathed. And I will drink alcohol on occasion, maybe ones or twice a month. And honestly, my life has hugely benefited from my experiences. As long is it doesn't get in the way or become a habit.

I don't drink. I got drunk Once, for my 16th birthday, and now, I don't like the taste of alcohol. I did smoke weed for a little while, but then I got bored of it. The only thing I do now, is smoke cigarettes. One thing people have to do, as adults, and as parents, is to Inform their children about all types of drugs, what they do to you, and what the side effects are. Informed Innocence, is what my mom calls it. And because I know about all about them, I don't want to do them.

I have never smoked cigarettes or drank, yet I smoked marijuana a few dozen times. I don't consider weed as an actual drug. I mean sure, it does get you high and whatnot. But it can also be used for medical reasons (for example, for cancer patients or people with bulimia or anxiety, depression etc.). Everyone in my family does drugs. The heaviest of them. Heroin, coke, alcoholism, etc. I never wanted to touch any of it because I didn't want to be like any of them in any type of way. I don't care how "fun" it can be, I have a great time without any of it and I'm very proud to say so! My boyfriend is a drinker and smoker. He's starting to get worse with the pot. Smoking more, and more often. And spending more on it. Its a waste in my opinion, but as long as I know I'm making good decisions. :)

I agree with Devvable that you cannot get addicted to weed. I smoked for 60 days straight once and then just stopped for a few years. But when I stopped...nothing happened. Not so with alcohol (or even cigs) and watching that with your Mom must have been painful. But weed & hemp can and do SO much good too.

I started out by popping pills when I was 12. Then i did marijuana, then i started drinking AND THEN came the smoking, even after i said i hated the idea of smoking tobacco.
Ive had really odd influences throughout my life.
But if there's one thing i believe in, it's rehabilitation of the mind. It's possible to redeem oneself from all of those things.
You can't always stop yourself from doing things just because you live in fear that things will absorb you. You need to learn to overcome.

My dad smoked pot and still does, and because of that I don't get to see him anymore. He used all his money on it. My mom had to work with a 2 year old at home and a baby in her belly. He was a nice person when he wasn't high or drunk, but he liked being high and drunk better than reality. Once I turned 4, my mom couldn't deal with it and we left. Thanks to drugs, I have only seen my dad once every four or so years. Thanks to my mom, I have a better life.

Actually, I know a lot of people that started smoking pot before they smoked cigarettes. And a lot of them started smoking and drinking at the same time due to a lifestyle change (going to college.) I think that pot itself is not a gateway drug. Because it is illegal, you HAVE to get it through illegal means, and that means coming into contact with drug dealers, who probably also deal different types of drugs. And their goal is to get you to try those other drugs.

@hnye There are no consistent effects of marijuana or alcohol. Alcohol can make people chill out and laugh a lot too. It can make people more friendly and social. While on the other hand weed can make people disoriented, anxious, nauseous etc.

@lt53666 - Sorry...but I disagree. Anyone I ever met drunk was obnoxious, throwing up or just plain looking for a fight. Anyone i ever met high was mellow and easy to get along with.

@lt53666 I dont know how many people you know, but every singe person i have ever seen drunk, and this includes myself, whether they are happy drunk, angry drunk, or stupid drunk, they are always loud, they dont think about consequences, and do what ever they want....
I know this from seeing it, and from personal experience. When i drink i am happy, and laugh a lot, but i also sing at the top of my lungs, makeout with random guys, dance in the middle of the road, ALONG with all my drunk friends.

@hnye - I did. I appreciate your honest post. And personally if I had my choice between getting drunk with what comes with it and smoking weed...it's gonna be weed every time. I'd much rather wake up the next day from smoking weed...even if it is way more than I would normally smoke, VS waking up the next day from a night of drinking and what-not. Peace!

@ScholarConsciousness Well, the best way to enjoy the morning after drinking, is to make sure your drinking water between every few drinks. cause all a hang over is, is dehydration.

@hnye - Makes sense...but I personally still never felt good the next morning, no matter how much or little I drank. Also, I have neighbors that drink all the time and not only do they "look like it"...there are always late night and very loud arguments which are quite sad. I think most people don't drink with the idea of what the next day will bring. If they did do the water thing...it would get in the way of "their high"...imho.

@ScholarConsciousness Well, those are the idiots that ruin it for everyone else. I do strongly believe that alcohol should be strickly monitored, and smoking cigarettes should be banned. Marijuana should be legalized and monitored. But the problem with that is the government would add additives and preservatives, and then it would end up the same a cigs. maybe people should just stop wanting to kill themselves and everyone else...

@hnye - I appreciate your position on wanting people to avoid destructive behavior...I do. But let's face it...you & I both know you can't save everyone. Quite frankly, I think if we get the government out of our personal lives and legalize EVERYTHING...take that money wasted on fighting the "drug-war", which is a joke in and of itself...which would be billions re-allocated btw...use some of that money (which wouldn't need be much) & educate & rehab centers. No-one should tell you how to live.

im not a pot smoker. I will never do it, but i think pot should be legal....cigs and alcohol destroy lives...pot just kinda makes you relaxed, you hear about crashed cars do to a person drinking an alcohol, but you never heard of a person in the news that got into a crash that was smoking weed, i think legalizing pot would decrease drug use (barbiturates, and stimulants), My advice, i think you should stay away from all drugs (Especially psychedelics), dont mess with those.
