  • I liked this album more then Fungus amongus and Science but only by a hair. They definitely went light on this album, alot lighter then Light Grenades (no pun intended :P). But the songs i do like on this album (thieves, in the company of wolves, adolescents, and isadore, definitely out weigh the songs i didnt like or thought were average. And for that i give this album a 6/10. This album does have a lot of good bsides nobody really knows about though, Hold Me Down and Rebel Girls.

  • I wouldn't say it's their best album. Good songs here and there, but I only have 2 other of their albums 1999's make yourself and 2001's morning view. I haven't really heard a lot of incubus. I really like drive though

  • @trdidion Not their best, not their previous style, but definitely good. You'll have to follow their music throughout their years to truly divulge into their music. They will take you on quite the journey my friend.

  • i think you've been watching too much porn

  • I love this album, but I think that this review is right on with Switchblade being out of place. Incubus is becoming more mature in their sound and they are going in the right direction but I do think they can get a little more dark and creative with their sounds. Great album though.

  • Im a die hard Incubus fan. Ive listened to them since their beginning of their music adventure. I'm going to be totally honest. When I first heard this album I was so disappointed. But, I felt like I never gave it a chance. I listened to it once and completely did not give it a chance. After listening to it over and over. I fell in love. I felt like INcubus wanted to do something like Morning View and keep it mellow. In the company of wolves reminds me of a song from The Doors. "This is this end

  • This album got me hooked into incubus.. Weirdly enough, this is my second favourite album. Awesome review though!!

  • I love your reviews. Although I don't expect a review video Sammy, cause well to be honest, this is a year old question. But well, what was your thoughts on Iron Maiden's latest album The Final Frontier, if you've listened to it? I'm just interested in your opinion, that's all.

  • completely agree... until you get to know the original and friends and lovers theyy seem like fillers. olny thing, i could not disagree more with your switchblade ideas. i think it's one of the best songs on the album (and no, im not one of them heavy incubus fans) and fits perfectly after in the company of wolves (which i think the forst 3 minutes sound like pink floyd, haha, just saying...)

anyway, great job man, keep it up!

  • Hey good job man, I don't know if you're a musician, but i'm impressed by your insight with the music. Looking forward to more reviews.

  • I really didn't like it... Light Grenades is GENIUS, this sounds just like meh...

    =/

  • So whut if they turned out to be less rock n' rollin in this album. What important is that they are growing. Music is not just about rock and roll and headbanging, geez!

  • The album would be better if they added Surface to Air and dropped every track except Company of Wolves and Defiance.

  • Fungus Amoungus

  • in other words, i hope Incubus continues to evolve in this direction. Bottom line, however: they are a great, talented band Before, Now, and I'll put my chips on After

  • Sorry, but your conclusion was the complete opposite of what I am/thought:

I only listened to their singles before. But when I heard this new album I had to copy get it. I'm a big fan of this more mellow album and Incubus is now one of my favorite bands BECAUSE of this album.

  • light grenade was better, and that say all, morning view was awesome...they never sound like rhcp, at least for me, becoming a pop band, doesn't mean to be mature, just a couple of track are decent on this album("Isadore" for example), i mean that the sound is ok...but old albums were better by far.

  • This guy is an idiot!!!!!!! Really you didn't see this album going in this direction BEFORE reading reviews?! Listen to Earth to Bella and tell me that song would not fit perfectly in this record. You are like I said an idiot. Listen to the music. This album has all the remnants and influences of the old incubus. You take any one of these songs and put it on a different album with the exception of Promises, Promises, and it would fit perfectly. THAT is why this album is amazing Music IS contrast

  • THE New Incubus Album was Great! I enjoyed this Record.

  • Dude totally agree with you on every point... I subscribed lol... thats how much i liked this review... specially the point you made about "In The Company of Wolves" i totally see what you're saying about the whole entering the den in the middle of an orgy thing... i could easily picture that, or maybe even a scene from the movie "Eyes Wide Shut" its hard to explain but the line "It was the longest night of my life" completely sets the mood... Awesome Review!

  • This album is so different than the others. I think that's good though, that the band varies what they put out and changes their style. I like how I can listen to S.c.i.e.n.c.e when I'm in a certain mood or ACLOTM or this album. I'd rather have them put out such varied albums, than put out science-esque records four or five times.

  • THIS CD SUCKS Im a fan of the old incubus ...blah new cd sucks lame shit bring back SCIENCE and make yourself

  • Adolescents is still easily the best song on the album. The album is average at best, relatively stale though

  • I haven't heard the new Incubus album, but I feel like I have. Great review, been watching or in the background for weeks.

  • Is this a good album, no. It's fucking amazing, and i love each and every song. But my favorite song is still Isadore<333

  • I think your retarded and i fucking love this album. one of incubus's greatest albums. Thieves is so great.

  • thieves, adolescents, isadore. the entire album is amazing but those are the best in my opinion. one of my favorite incubus albums

  • Really good review man! I agree with most points, except, I think The Original is a fantastic track.

    Well Done.

  • Brandon Boyd's solo album is much better.

  • you analyze music way too much.. o__o

  • @iwillbiiteyu That's what a reviewer does.

  • Sup Sami,

Nice album review, hope you do more in the near future. I like that you're spacing out reviewing albums (when you really feel you have to dive into), it really shows your individuality.

Honestly, the album to me... it one of those albums where it's good, but falls in the category of "in the mood" albums (not saying it's sucks, far from it, more like when you're in that mood to play it). I still enjoyed this album though.

    \m/ Rock It Out !

  • 1. thieves 2. defiance 3. company of wolves 4. the original

  • This guy is an idiot.

  • not sure why all the negative critism on these comments.... the band has aged and evolved into more gentle melodies progressing over the years. Their Science years are gone people. Same thing goes with 311.... grassroots, music, and blue are history. These bands are getting old and dont want to play that fast funk style rock anymore. The new Incubus album still has the sound that made them famous. They just excluded distortion from this album altogether.

  • Aerosmith and Van Halen are in the process of recording their next albums. Do you think you'll review those albums when they eventually become available.

  • man i dont even listen to incubus and im enjoying this review!

  • hahahaha LOVE your album reviews bro!!! Awesome job!

  • The song if not now when sounds like fucking u2 or some shit, however I don't mind the rest of the album, I am quite a fan of Defiance, and ofc company of wolves. I don't think the foundation of this album is strong enough to hold if up however, it does not feel solid nor consecutive like most incubus albums. I'd give it say a 7/10.

    Morning View ftw btw.

  • R.I.P. Incubus

  • good, good album

  • personally i like this album alot you do make alot of harsh points but its been 5 years a bands gonna have changed their sound, i do think the album is a slight weak point but only because their previous work was so amazing. i have thought of your points before and i think some can be dismissed if you be not being that critical but i think some are worth noting. one thing, friends and lovers if you listen to what they do, i think you could appreciate it alot more. The album has high points.

  • he has reviewed two albums of my to favourite two bands

  • I thought switchblade was well placed. It showcased the bands new set of extremes. Def not THE best album overall, some of these song will be remembered forever! KEEP IT UP RIO!B YOUR AWESOME!

  • "3 minute and 10 seconds holy shit." :)

  • I would take incubus over RHCP any day

  • @zorth42 ehhh that's debatable. RHCP has been much more successful, mainstream and otherwise. I mean everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I like both bands, but RHCP are much better than Incubus, whether it be their old funky stuff or their Stadium Arcadium stuff.

  • @kreuzer12 ive always thought rhcp'S lyrics were just plain retarded and even though there instrumentation is good I just cant take it seriously with anthony kiedis saying whatever comes to mind first, and thats what I cant stand about RHCP

  • i actually kind of enjoyed this album, but thats comming from someone who has hated pretty much every incubus song i have ever heard before now.

  • I agreed with what you said for the most part and we had similar reactions when we first heard the album. However I cringed when you compared them with RHCP about their funk sound which I don't hear whatsoever in their previous albums. I must say that this album has definitely grown on me especially the first opening tracks and I respect and admire the band for evolving and creating new songs. I kind of figured the band would head in this direction after Light Grenades.

  • @akaxlotus

You seriously didn't hear the Chilli Peppers on Fungus Amongus? The album reeks of them, especially songs like Hilikus and Stink Beneath the Line.

  • @tristessa56079 I heard more Mr. Bungle influence in those songs personally.

  • man idc i love everything incubus. i cant wait to get this shit

  • I like when u do a review u should do more(:

  • Why have you said nothing about The Radiohead TKOL Live from the Basement that's out now?!?! Haha I know we're some Radiohead Junkies.

  • I didn't like switchblade at first for the same reasons as the reviewer described but as an old incubus fan i appreciated the "heaviness" of it. Yes it does stick out like a sore thumb in the album but as a single song its not that bad. What got me into the song was the metaphor...dig a little deeper than the music in the song and you find some fun lyrics..

  • In The Company of Wolves is the song that made me respect the other 7 songs that came before it & I'm actually a huge fan of Switchblade. It's very catchy and it was nice to hear the hard Incubus again but presented in their current phase. However I agree about the placement, I think if it was placed after Adolescents it would have been a tad settling. But for what it's worth, I'm still a fan of the track and the album grew alot on me. Definitely not the best Incubus album, but its a worthy one

  • he said...umm, about the old incubus... "rhcp wannabe's, AND INSTEAD..."`; jeez, not cool.

  • i really have to listen to that song "in the company of wolves" now after that massive talk up, sounds like a good one.

  • also, im not a fan of incubus, and sir, you mess with the nit picky part of my brain when you say in-que-bus, its in-cub-us

think succubus and replace the su with in

but on to the point again, they always seemed a bit light for me. and i know someone just got an aneurism when i said that but they just seem to be in it for the shits n giggles to me, and you gotta be somewhat serious about any art form or, well, it will just suck

  • i like the guitar in thieves, the message is pretty damn overt, but its not a great song

  • Will there ever come a reviewspecial in an constand rhythm on any day of the week ? Thanks for the aswer .. You do a good job ! RockItOut !

  • GREAT album. bad incubus album. if you know what i mean

  • Good review

  • Interesting review.

Can't say I really agree with it. I mean, you say it's a good album, but save a few songs it doesn't sound like you think it's that great. You say most of the songs are filler to pretty good. And the one you REALLY seem to like you even say you don't care much for half of it!

Personally I thought it was great and beautiful. Giving all the songs time to grow on me I think there's no filler.

And I disagree on Switchblade. It's upbeat, not heavy or rockish at all.

  • YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • when i heard this album i was i was really fond of it , I've got their entire discography and i like all of their stuff and if people cannot adapt to change then they are very narrow minded

  • Didn't hear it, and never will. Because I know what Boyd has become: a whiny love struck ego-maniac. It started with the song "I miss you" from Make Yourself. And it just got worse and worse with every album after. Morningview was good, but that was the last good album they ever made and WILL make.

  • Tell you the truth, I don't like it very much. Only because I'm a S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself fan. I'm surprised you didn't mention how much you hated Light Grenades....

  • this is possibly the chillest album they've made. I love it.. it's so relaxing. Incubus never disappoints me.. vote up if you guys agree

  • I like that you only review albums you want to review. It makes the reviews more personal and in-depth. Great job man

  • @edna23 thanks. I'll next be reviewing a new album from Yanni....

  • I love how you have not covered anything about the red hit chili peppers which are bigger and better than most of the bands you've covered lately,

    LAME

  • @gussxp well he had metal music news, and then this music review which took over indie rock news.

So im guessing he'll talk about the new chili peppers song on next weeks main news episode? as the RHCP came out only a few days ago. and plus, in my opinion, its nothing special, rather boring.

  • @MinusNineMusic

but like stuff about incubus....really cmon...

the chili peppers have been around for thirty yeaars, ten albums, even took home several grammys IN ONE NIGHT!.. the new album is the shit and was spread worldwide in over 30 countries in theatres...uhhh dont see any of these bands that succesful..rather boring.

  • I have to agree with everything said in this video

  • @RockinConor wow. First time that's ever happened. haha

  • Please do this for I'm With You

  • I'm a die hard Incubus fan. I got into the band, thanks to my brother, back in 1999 with their album "Make Yourself". After that album, I bought the albums before that, and started buying the albums after that. After listening to "If not now, when?". I fell in love with it. I'm more of a fan with their "soft" mellow stuff more than their "harder" stuff. If you're a TRUE Incubus fan, you will love this album without even trying.

  • @ZachPilotProductions A true fan of any band isn't afraid to criticize them. I don't know what happened to Brandon Boyd, but his voice is incredibly annoying now. I can't blame Dirk Lance for leaving; it must have gotten boring for him.

  • @jbond311: Couldn't agree more. I still love Incubus just as much today as I did when I first got into them but just because I love most of their albums doesn't mean I'm gonna give them an automatic pass just because their name happens to be Incubus. If they make a bulls#*t album, I'm gonna call em out on it, and this album and Light Grenades sucked. Some people are just sheep and would probably buy any album with the name of their favorite band on it and say you're only a true fan if you do so.

  • wonderful review man thank you!

  • Also for example.. look at what aaron lewis is doing, he decided to do the slow stuff on his solo album and stick with harder stuff under the staind name, because thats how they began, and imo that was a smart move. When people see a name of a band they want a familiar sound. If you want to completely change that. Go under a different name.

  • Say what you want but that shit was worse then light grenades, which at least had one decent song.. this album is terrible and I'm very open when rock bands change.

I guess my problem is, if he released this as a solo album, it would be ok, but its under incubus!! The same band that created make yourself morning view and SCIENCE!! I'm just saying when I think of the name incubus.. This isn't the first thing I think of. I think of pardon me, certain shade of green and wish you were here.

  • @416nWild Yeah but what makes it so bad if they decide to move in a new direction?

Incubus have ALWAYS mixed things up from album to album. They're known for always changing their sound. I mean the transition from SCIENCE to Make Yourself is crazy! And then Make Yourself to Light Grenades is a leap. And now Light Grenades to the new album is their latest style change.

Chances are their next album will be even more unique! That's just another reason to love them. They never get stale!

  • @DoubleO711 You have a good point.. except that Brandon Boyd isn't switching it up that much. If he wants to switch it up. He needs to switch up the vocals, and switch up the production, maybe the guitars and the style every album.. I mean you don't go to something as rocking as science was and switch to the same style you've been doing after make yourself. Maybe he can mix in a lil country on one album, indie rock on another, go back to funk and maybe add some hip hop elements. idk.

  • Comment removed

  • @DoubleO711 And he did do that on Crow at least so I applaud them for that. except that album wasn't too good. But LG sounds like a watered down morning view to me and INNW sounds like a watered down light grenades. Instead of watering stuff down be more creative, and stop trying to be so slow and low key all the time.. maybe then incubus will be a better band.

  • @416nWild Well if you think this new album sounds that much like any previous Incubus album then I'm afraid you're not listening close enough.

Yes you can compare some of the softer songs from the past few songs to these songs, but even then there are differences. You're just looking at it in a bit of a black and white way I think. Yes the songs are soft like some of their past songs. But they sound much different still.

They don't have to switch genres to sound different.

  • @416nWild Incubus have been making melodies for like 10 years now. It's just with If not Now When is like listening to 7 or more songs like "Mexico" That's really how I feel

  • yeah that wolves song is good, I'm glad I watched this video cause I was not impressed with the album at all but that song is a step up.

  • do you actually listen to all the music you do your news videos on? Cuz, thats A LOT of music

  • @CliffUSAF yup. Have to but its not a chore. Its fun

  • Hey, you are awesome at reviewing! I would really appreciated a review on the Chili Peppers upcoming album :D

  • @benn7070 haha we'll see

  • @RockItOutBlog we'll see? you know you will

  • That review took an interesting turn for a few minutes there.

In The Company Of Wolves is pretty rad though.

  • its ok but not great

  • I miss the indie rock music news. :-(

  • @schultzisaiah it'll be back next week

  • dud the new blink stuff SUCKS BALLS!

  • Incubus. If Not Now When. Forever. (music starts)

  • another great review, man.

  • @safe0sam thanks

  • the folder reminds me of the new Dream Theather album...

  • Nice review. You should do these more often.

  • @bigassdrums15 haha. Thanks

  • You have to review Im With You (when it's out) Sami!!

  • wil you review "I'm With You" when it comes out?

  • @ps3duder not sure. Maybe. We'll see

  • Best. Song metaphor. Ever.

  • you went on a sexual tangent i lol'd ill have to listen to that song!

  • You should do more of these album reviews instead of indie rock news

  • @garbagewazhere He said he wants to leave that to The Needle Drop, even though the reviews here are just so great. I'm guessing we should expect one maybe every couple months or so.

  • I think it's a good album, no album is perfect, this album is no exception to that rule and I personally feel that Make Yourself was their best album but I still find it good to listen to!

  • it isn't that great, nothing really goes anywhere special it just stay in alt rock with the exception of in the company of wolves and switchblade (but switchblade is crap anyway)

  • i JUST came back from seeing them..it was AWESOME

  • Linkin park had a similar problem with there album

  • You should keep with this pace of album reviews, Sami. Reviewing every once in a while about albums that either matter to you, or you have something to say. Great review, if I could make a suggestion, I would maybe give visuals that go with any references you make. Like when you talk about older Incubus songs or albums, show their cover art picture (or maybe even music video pics). It would just be a little change up from just a constant visual of this album's cover art.

  • @CitizenCane92 good idea. Thanks for that.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought Light Grenades was Incubus' worst album... then I heard If Not Now, When?. This really takes the cake. I've loved everything they've done from Enjoy Incubus all the way up until ACLotM & everything after 'Crow' I've hated. They haven't evolved. Radiohead evolves from album to album, but Incubus has undergone a complete identity change. It's like they've forgotten who they are or are just ashamed, to the point where now they're simply unrecognizable. This album is dull & disappointing.

  • @mikeylikesit100

Agreed (although I like Light Grenades). It seems like they despise their former selves for creating music like S.C.I.E.N.C.E, Make Yourself, Fungus. Even when songs were soft on MV and MY, they had so much life and power to them. They've shown enough of their soft side, they should make some harder tracks (since they're so "against" doing the same thing twice) or make some memorable soft tracks.

  • Haven't listened to it yet. =X

  • What I've heard of the cd I like... Out of Thieves, Switchblade and Friends and Lovers. Thieves is my favorite, I agree with basically everything u said about switchblade. I really dig it but I am a die-hard incubus fan so if brandon recorded while sitting on the john with a kazoo I'd like it. Can't wait to buy the album.

  • love this album, easily their best since morning view. its good to finally see them embrace their new sound. very concise.

im in love with almost every song.. defiance sounds like something right off brandons solo. i agree with you about switchblade, but outside the context of this album, its terrific.

ps.no u tit. megalomaniac wasnt supposed to be political, thats just how random ppl interperated it.

    but yeh decent review sami

  • i thought the album was very redundant, had similar songs aside from in the company of wolves, thieves and adolescents. Other than that the rest are pretty forgettable

  • First off I'm a diehard Incubus fan and I'm madly in love with Brandon Boyd...I absolutely agree with the image you got from the breakdown in wolves. It's the best song on the record but after a few spins I appreciate every song. Morning View will always be my favorite but I love this album and how different it is. Burning question: Have you heard Surface to Air or Rebel Girls? They're both b-sides and they're terrific. Neither would fit the album's theme but they're brilliant.

  • Are you a musician sammi? They way you describe songs is in a way I've only heard other musicians describe songs and I appreciate that being a guitar player myself. You should do more album reviews.

  • @JustinSimm90 i'm an occasional musician

  • I'm kinda bummed that you didn't review Wasting Light. This one's pretty good

  • Your review makes me really curious to hear it, especially being a new fan that liked adolescents.

  • @BloodyPaperclip, well incubus has always been much heavier than this new album, so i wud not recommend this new album as a start, instead I would go with either Morning View or SCIENCE.

  • This was really well done awesome job

  • @SHADOWCLONE177 thanks

  • Dude, love your reviews i'm a recent subscriber that randomly came across your channel and i've been loving it ever since.

  • @xXdeadkidXx69 thanks a lot!

  • I like the album. It feels like a stripped-down grunge record. Yeah I might pick this up, really.

  • soo instead of Indie news...you review the new Incubus album...great.

  • @Brendan528 I gave everyone a heads up that this was happening.

  • @RockItOutBlog fair enough! as long as the indie saturdays come back, my fav episode for the riob.

  • So there's a song on the album that can almost get you almost headbanging? Headbangingception?

  • Isadore, Defiance, and Adolescents are my favorite tracks on the album. For some reason though, I find In the Company of Wolves to be boring though, Idk, I guess I have to let it grow on me.

  • i personally really enjoyed this album, but i couldnt agree with you more about switchblade.

  • I've actually never listened to Incubus, what songs/albums do you recomend to start me off?

  • @BloodyPaperclip I asked the same question earlier. Still no reply.

  • @BloodyPaperclip start with earlier albums. Science, Make Yourself and Morning View. Then decide what direction you want to go from there. Earlier or later stuff

  • The first tiem i heard this album was incubus lpaying live on their hqlive stream and i thought it was meh, but i bought it and after a few listens i cant get some of the songs out my head like thieves and promises, promises and the original. Its like a crow left of the murder and light grenades, for every good song on the album their is a below par one. Funny how since ben kenney joied the band thas the case, but its not his faut his solo stuff is the shit

  • The album is terrible. Admittedly I do like the harder Incubus songs but I also like the slow stuff. Incubus writes great slower songs, but unfortunately this is full of very lackluster slower songs. I think they ripped off way too many bands' sounds on this record like Pink Floyd, Coldplay, U2 just to name a few. Their originality is straight up gone with this release. I hope they come back with a much better record next time around.

  • just heard it today and i loved it, every song, In The Presence of Wolves is epic as hell

  • Bloody awesome review! Like you i have been listen to it for a while now and i do agree it is a good song! but Switchblade is a kick ass song!

  • @novastunna Switchblade is by far my favorite on the album. I wish they wrote more songs like that.

  • @novastunna I have to agree with you there! Like Sami said tho it does not fit with the style of the whole ablum.. but i am happy that it is on there!

  • the album was to boring

  • @epicsam11 No kidding. There was 1 moderately paced song on the album. I don't know what happened to Brandon Boyd, but his vocals are terrible now. No aggressiveness whatsoever. This band kind of dropped off the map for me at this point.

  • my opinion is STOP WITH THE GREEN SCREEN PLEASE!!!! it does not look good at all.

  • @navebucketdude I appreciate the opinion

  • Comment removed

  • cheer up big fella!

  • It's really not good it sounds like incubus mixed with maroon five and 200O's U2

  • Radiohead, Incubus, and Coldplay ARE NOT rock. They're wimpy crap, and all blow

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd You don't have to play pounding riffs & scream in people's faces to do great rock. Melodic/slow =/= wimpy. You sound like the kind of person that skips a song after 5 seconds for not blowing your mind with its heaviness. Learn to be patient & maybe you'll be able to expand your musical palette a little more.

  • @maalbe987 - I didn't say you had to. However there's a difference between GOOD slow and melodic and just garbage. Incubus is just garbage. As are Radiohead and Coldplay.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd Like them or not, you can't deny that all three bands have tons of talent, but if you don't like them, that's fine.

  • @maalbe987 - "tons of talent"???? lol. No they don't. That's something they've been lacking. TALENT!

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd Just so we're on the same page in this little flame war we've got going here, how would you describe Radiohead in a nutshell?

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd how the hell are radiohead and coldplay garbage? i'm almost afraid to ask what kind of music you listen to

  • @palbo4 - lol. How the hell are they not. If I explained about how atrocious they are, I'd be here. ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd oh wow you're an idiot. radiohead is one of the most influential and original bands of all time. coldplay is almost just as influential as radiohead but maybe a little more formulaic. just because YOU don't like a band mean they're garbage...people on the internet are so stupid.
