in english it is "this one is how much money?" so in chinese you just say "this one how much money"? same as my other post. why do we omit "shi" from the sentence?
i've started writing a book, and um actually the more correct way would be "How much money is this one?" or even better "How much does this (one) cost?" "this one is how much money?" is kinda baby-ish.
多少 duo1shao3 acts as an adjective describing 钱 qian2. In Chinese, I think adjectives are kind of like verbs as well (i.e. 大 means big, but you don't need to say something 'is' big - 是 shi4 would be unnecessary).
When 是 is used with an adjective, it indicates a kind of emphasis (e.g. 他很高 = He is tall ... 他是很高 = He IS tall (implying that you're contradicting a statement someone made earlier)). I'm not sure what 这个是多少钱 means.
hi benny! im a filipino, im here in singapore working and my officemates mostly are chinese, i am easily learning your teaching technique, hope to learn from you more!
I don't know about others, but from my standpoint as a Cantonese speaking American is that it is so much easier learning it by just changing some of the sounds of the words. The pinyin help, but not as good as when it is actually spoken. I personally have a dislike of pinyin, thanks for the videos though.
Ni hao benny!! So Why did the number change from er to liang??? you said zhe ge duo shao qian. then he said something i couldnt hear. You said Zhe ge liang kwai qian, Why is it not Zhe ge er kwai qian? Do all of the numbers change when you are talking about money?? Xie xie, Zai jian.
Yes indeed! Many Japanese actually learn Mandarin easier than if they were to learn English, as they can ready many of the characters! Ma Ta Ne! Benny

Xie xie, Zai jian.
woxihuan515 4 years ago
2 is a tricky number in chinese, when its used with mesure word, we say "liang", when it's usd as a single number, we say "er" for example:
liang kuai qian = 2 yuan (kuai is a measure word for money)
liang bei shui = 2 cups of water
liang ge ren = 2 person (ge is the measure word)
