this is what painting is all about ...good painting...rather than the trend to stiff and formal academic stylized....but then again ...it is also a matter of taste...

Okay...this is the type of painting I prefer as compared to the stiff academic formal style...but I guess we can learn from all of them...

This gentleman is extremely skilled and talented...They sure do get a great education in Russia.

I don't like this at all.

There are a lot of raw paints - too sweety "colors" from tubes - no colors, I mean no harmonized colors. Picture for a box of chocolate.

Want to know what I mean harmonized, look at

Monet, Renoir or Sezann or Valentin Serov, Isaac Levitan, Arkhip Kuindji.

They were truly talented in color and tone.

This man is not only talented. Please, I feel peeved when people say things like painting is a blessed talent, its god given. This man probably spent years to study and perfect his craft. I would not call him talented at all. He is highly trained over years of blood sweat and tears. Recognize that and respect him. =)

I won't totally disagree with you. But god given talent has something to do with it too. I am a photographer and was good with the camera from the first day i picked one up. As a Painter though, I am absolutely useless. With training, I'm sure I can get better. But in photography, I didn't need any.

@disndat11 However it's practically impossible to know the exact percent of talent & hard work in one's art. Some weren't born with so-called talent but managed to achieve great artistic success through years of training. It simply takes more time.

Plus, talent takes so many forms that we can't fully recognize all of them. Color sensitivity certainly counts, but doesn't thinking play an important role, especially in modern art world? Art is never simple.

@killbeebee We're actually studying at uni what and who is a gifted and talented person....he's gifted (he "seems" to be a natural at painting) and over the years he's trained himself and become talented!! Thats one way of looking at it. :)

you should do dvds cuz you are the best, even my art professor didn't teach me these techniques, the way you mix colors and the light and dark shades and the spontaneous brush strokes...you are amazing i can't get enough of you, 4 years in an art school didn't do much for me as this 4 and half minutes did, thanks!
