i never can get over just how damn -big- this bird is... There's a video somewhere on here with a really good perspective of one of these birds airlifting a Cat D-11 (minus blade an tracks) into a remote mining site. The MI-26 makes the bulldozer it is lifting look small, and it just -hangs- there, steady as a rock, while the ground crew is working on the rigging. This is what they should do to it. Put a side door on it so it can carry troops, instead of the wide windshield it should have an Mil MI 24 thing going on, with a gun underneath controlled by a co pilot. Also, i think they should put sub wings on the sides with missels. Anyway, i think i would be cooler with my idea. take a look at Yak-24 helicopter (Nato name "Horse").

The Yak-24 flew first time 1952... the Ch-47 1961. Just saying... ;)

As for the V-22, Canada took the fame for first tiltrotor with the CL-84 from the 60's, another "not so American as you thought" idea...

I have heard about Lockheed hiring some guys that worked in the Freestyle, but I do not even know it is true.
