wierd first you may want to check your disc make sure that there isn't any scratches. if clean check your laser If it is a blue or a green color then try cleaning it with a damp tip of a cloth. not too wet otherwise you will kill it all together. if this doesn't help then you will need a new laser. Check your model no. (should be on the bottom of the ps1) then find one on ebay or somewhere. they should be around 4 or 5 bucks and then change it over. the last thing is to get a new ps1.
Try playing something else. If you get a blank screen with a red 'no' symbol that says "Software terminated, comsole may be modified. Call XXX-XXX-XXXX", it means that your ps1 is modded.
it the video cord use the three way cord one whit yellow red white not the one whit five way cord green red blue red white useing this cord will do this you can't use hd video cord
OK you have the eye of the laser, and the actual laser diode. You can use compressed air to clean the laser diode (need to open the PSone) and you can use windex (window cleaner) with a q-tip to clean the eye (the blue circle when the console lid is open). If this does not work, your drive deck is gone. Sony used plastic to make these decks, so the gearing is most likely gone.
@zayedaltamimi keeps restarting by itself? Sounds like the reset button microswitch is arcing on itself. This is too dangerous for someone like you to fix, as it lies right on the main power supply inside the console.
@mattyredrock listen i think that the problem may the ps1 len or the cd if the cd has no problem go and buy some lens cleaner so in that case you d see the results
@DetonatorMax that may be a solution but u think thats the problen 7 yeras ago i have the same problem and all i did was to buy a lens and then the problem goes away
Dude, i think your problem is that the video cord (i think it's the yellow one) is unplugged. Mine did the same thing and when i checked the hookups, i just realized that my video cord plug was not plugged in. That would explain the sound, but none of the game showing.
try to start it up backwards like put the ps1 flat backwards and turn it on or try side ways or wrap it up in taowels it works that happened to mine years ago.
if you wrap it around in toweels and turn it on it works the best and just wrap it and have it on while wraped for 30 min
I've been playing playstation for 12 years and I've never seen one do that. Also I just found a PSone just like that at Goodwill with two controllers, three games, and a memory card for $12. Anybody, knows where i can get a Super Nintendo let me know.
hey i have a problem too but different i turn on my ps1 and it shows the white title screen with the sony sign then i goes to a screen with white squares and it shows cd or memory card and i cant get out. help plz/.
i'm having the same problem except no game music in the background it just stays on that screen! i can't play any games on it and it's the only classic game console i have!
Q-tip with rubbing alcohol (not to much) very very lightly then with the dry q-tip. I got one working with this method not to long ago. If it doesnt work check e-bay for a parts laser they are very simple to switch out. Good luck
I had a similar fault on my PSX and I used compressed air in a can . the type you get in computer shops, i got mine on ebay for £5. I have fix a ton of consoles over the years and the thing is it is usually just dust and dirt that is stopping them working. Watch a few disassembly tutorials on here get some cleaning products e.g comp air or switch/contact cleaner cotton buds and i think you'll get your ps1 running again.
get some lens cleaner and spray that lens cleaner on a clothe, rub the lens carefully and wait until it dries then it should work,or even some aftershave will work depending if it has alchol in it
@mattyredrock Ah. At one point, I was playing Klona 2 on my PS2 Original(which was released at the same time as the PS1), and my PS2 randomly froze. It might have been because I had been playing TV:OTR, or it could have been a Sony manufacturing defect.

I think the PS1 could just use some cleaning inside the system (not the lens).

I had a similar problem.
Mine doesn't read anything. Just stop in the white screen, and then go to the menu. (As if I didn't put a CD.)
Did u find a solution? Maybe we need to change the laser. The problem is... Where we can find a new one?
My english is a bit strange, but I think you can understand. Greetings from Spain =)

Oh another tip from the old days is turning the console on it's side or upside down while it loads, that worked on mine before i cleaned it .
Good luck n' don't give up :)

when i try to play, the screen stays on the same frame. but the music of the game keeps going! :( I AM SO CONFUSED. WHY WOULD IT DO THAT!
mattyredrock 2 years ago
@mattyredrock Ah. At one point, I was playing Klona 2 on my PS2 Original(which was released at the same time as the PS1), and my PS2 randomly froze. It might have been because I had been playing TV:OTR, or it could have been a Sony manufacturing defect.
@Haunted360 @zayedaltamimi
This console is called a PlayStation Original, not a PlayStation 2 X. But you don't seem to be confusing the consoles.

@mattyredrock here are some steps on how to fix your playstation
1. get a washcloth
2. wash it with water and clean off all the errors on the disc
3. reinsert the game disc
if this does not work use an airspray and clean the errors off the ps1
hope this helps you fix your ps1
