  • one of the greatest actors ever

  • This movie, and especially this scene, is a huge influence on my performance work and writings. Craziness in the (dead) flesh!

  • Beware!!! Now this is true art! This is true talent right here! Bela is a legend yes he is

  • Beware, beware

Beware of the Big Green Dragon that sits on 4chan

He eats pervy boys, slutty gals, and evil does alike

    Beware, take care, beware.

  • Spooky

  • Favourite scene ever

  • I always thought he says : Beware of the Big Green Dragon that sits on your toaster.

  • Zoiks!

  • WWhhhaat?

  • only bela logusi can be this EPIC

  • Bwahhre..bvare...BVARE OUGH DEH BEEEG GRRRRIIN DRAGHGUN DAT SIZ ON UR DUR STIP...............HE EETZ LIDL BOIZZZZZZZZ

The green eyed dragon with the thirteen tails

  • I love this!

  • This is fkn excellent

  • I wish they had this Bela in Twilight

  • @iamck Pahaha, if only xD

  • @iamck Twilight does not deserve to smell his shit!!!

  • @ternaldo Agreed

  • poetry

  • Ed Wood > David Lynch

  • Before Tommy Wiseau claims the position of worst film maker, he must defeat Ed Wood.

  • @DanRaccoon AND THE OTHER SIX EVIL EXES

  • What the hell has he been smoking?

  • @WolfySnackrib666 he was doing morphine

  • @T3RRQR Yeah, I know, I saw the movie. But seriously, my question is still valid. That old guy is way too energic to be on morphine right then. Must've been smoking some funky stuff!!

  • @WolfySnackrib666 Touche

  • @T3RRQR Baby snakes

  • @WolfySnackrib666 It's a verifiable historical fact he was a morphine addict.

  • @terminator847 I agree, I know and I saw the movie. But still, one must ask oneself the important question "What the hell has that Bela Lugosi been smoking?!

  • @WolfySnackrib666 He wasn't smoking anything, he just wasn't really that bright, that's why he agreed to star in these atrocious films. Actually, this made him famous, since he's the the only to actor to have starred in both the best movies ever made and the worst movies ever made.

  • @terminator847 Well duh, he's not bright. He is dark as hell! Darker than the inside of a coffin on a moonless night. Bela Lugosi, count of darkness.

  • Totally cool. Legosi is a treasure. He is an icon, he's a genre all to his own.

  • Sometimes awesomeness comes in the most bizarre of shapes.

  • "He made junk brilliant." <-----Bela's tombstone

  • he's hot

  • @MetrazolElectricity Goddammit, YES!!

  • I can't fault Ed Wood. If I were a director like him, I'd get Keith David to do pointless speeches for my movies. lol

  • @EternalGuardian07 absolutely

  • BEVARE

  • just for the clinical INSANE!!!!!!!!

  • bevare

  • Wait, PULL THE STRINGK, PULL THE STRINGK!

  • I can't believe I've actually managed to watch the whole 'Glen or Glenda' movie :D

  • bivèrrr

  • EPIC WIN

  • Now I will have nightmares with the green dragon, every night.

  • @BillyBuddBay Oh, don't worry. The big green dragon only eats little boys that are somehow composed of puppy dog tails and...BIG FAT snails...

  • "beware of the big green dragon that sits on your doorstep" LOL

  • @MakaveliWiklund no he said beware of the big green dragon that sits on your toaster

  • @luigiblox no i have the movie and i know for a fact that he says doorstep because it has english subtitles

  • @MakaveliWiklund no matter i heard toaster

  • @luigiblox whatever just admit that i was right and you were wrong

  • scarier than karloff.

  • Rest in peace old man.

    altought my mom loved Carloff.

  • Some beautiful lighting, surprisingly!

  • Bee ware

  • beware the big green dragon that sits on your toaster?

  • Somehow the speech made perfect sense to Ed Wood! Lets face it...If Bela was alive when Wood directed 'Orgy of the Dead' he would have played a role in it!

  • @hairyhand NO

    BAD MENTAL PICTURE

  • CombiChrist used this monologe as a sampler on their first record! :D

  • actually, this scene is quite genuinly creepy (largely due to Lugosi's delivery, of course)

  • Now Christopher Walken takes Lugossi's place

  • PULL THE STRINK!

  • bivèèèère!!

  • bevarrrreeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Bewaaare. *_*

  • @LordGarvals noOoo! It's "beVarrrre"!!! xD

  • I have a t-shirt that says this whole quote.

  • Maybe it's me, but I think that Bela looks likes he's having fun. It's like "Hey, all you out there saying, 'look at poor Bela Lugosi, see how far he has fallen'. Who's getting paid for this? Who's up here on the screen and cashing the checks, huh? Sure, it's bad, but hey, I've earned this! Until you create an iconic cinematic image, shut up and watch me work." Just my opinion.

  • @insdmia I believe Wood paid him $1,000 for 5 hours of work on this movie. Not bad back then. And Lugosi needed the money.

  • @insdmia That's why I love Bela Lugosi as kind of an anti pretentious Hollywood figure

  • es una pena que no pudo ser valorado mientras vivia

  • MaxErnst. No luck for Bela in town.

I like that ratman Morphium shit.

  • I dunno why but my friends and I find this movie hilarious. Its actually the favorite at all my parties

  • The intro to the Combichrist Vater Unser Combicritters remix

  • The dragon, I believe, is a metaphor for what prevents Glen from being a man. The dragon "eats little boys" and "puppy dog tail and big fat snails."

Although, they say "snips and snails" through the rest of the movie, which goes along with the rhyme that boys are made from, "snips and snails and puppy dog tails."

Therefore, since the dragon eats what makes a boy, he is eating what makes Glen a man.

    Does that make any sense?

  • @10truefreak01 no. but you get a gold star for trying.

  • @communistrecords As long as gold stars are involved, I am satisfied.

  • @10truefreak01 Sorry man, makes no sense at all :)

  • @10truefreak01 To me, that makes a great deal of sense. I've never thought of it that way, but now since you explained it, I understand this quote more now. Thanks for explaining. :)

  • IT EATS LITTLE BOYS

  • Haha I love this line, I sing for a band and when we enter the stage this sample plays on the PA

  • @TheHorrorAnthem

If it's audio sample, would be able to you sent it to me via e-mail if I give the address? I'd definitely want that.

  • umh.... What the fuck are talking about????

  • BIVER......BIVER

  • PULL THE STRING

  • Bela, I wished you worn me earlier, the damn Dragon raided my fridge D:

  • Yea, I ignored him when he said this, thinking it was just the heroine addiction talking.

I'd better find that damn string he was talking about before I make the same mistake again.

  • This scene was actually kidna creepy in a bizarre way until out of nowhere "Pull the string! Pull the string!" Still even in Wood's films Bela Lugosi rules.

  • his face at 0:31 . That's what I'm talking about!

  • Lugosi's face cracks me up (not an insult,)

  • BeeVare...BeVare....

  • "Beware! Beware! Beware of the big green dragon that sits on your doorstep. He eats little boys. Puppy dog tails and big fat snails. Beware, take care! Beware"

    HE WAS A GENIUS!!

  • awesome.

    just awesome.

  • thanks Bela. I'll have an eye on him.

  • I read somewhere in a recent book or article that Bela Lugosi was the most malevolent actor in Hollywood.

In a recent Dallas Morning News article about the new Philip Glass score for Dracula, the reviewer spent less time reviewing the new music, then belittling Dracula as full of bad acting, low budget, and laughable special effects. Actually four of the actors were from Broadway, maybe five, and David Manners a popular lead from Paramount. And it was a prestige movie, but Depression era.

  • Ya know, this speech makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but DAMN does Lugosi sell it!

  • I was thinking the same thing. Really, the man could act with his face like nobody's business.

  • I get "Big green dragon at your doorstep", but I didn't get anything else. I think the "Big green dragon" is supposed to be the concept of people judging Glen, while the fact that they're at his doorstep shows how close everyone is to finding the truth, and how just walking out of your comfortable place of refuge could destroy him.

  • im going to save you alot of time and tell you not to try and disect ed's film lol.

im pretty sure he was aiming for something deep and meaning full but ended up with bizzare and creepy.

  • If a director tries to make something deep and meaningful that comes off in a way not how they planned, I would think that's the perfect kind of movie to dissect. Why try to dissect a movie whose intended message is clear? Rather, more effort should be put into looking into things that aren't what they seem.

  • i dident say whose message is clear.

this film has a message and its that you shouldent judge people for who they are.

you're trying to find meaning in dialouge that was rushed, written and shot in a matter of days. do you really think ed had time to care about hidden meanings in the dialouge.

you can look at any film and try and speculate what its about and probably come up with 1000 different theorys. you're just wasting your time here.

  • It may have been rushed, but that doesn't mean they put this in the movie for no reason. I already know that this film has a message about judging people. Knowing that, you can look at the dialogue seen here and try to make an observation as to what it means.

  • are you serious?

you have seen ed wood movies right?

tell me what the stock footage of bison means, ed made films nobody understood because he dident have the talent to convey his messages. im not trying to discourage you from seeking meaning behind cinema. i ofen do the same, im simply suggesting you're wasting your time.

  • I don't know what the bison mean, admittedly. But I think there's something you should consider here. The comment I made, where I suggested some things about what this dialogue might mean, was made a month ago. I'm not actively deciphering this movie.

  • @Naikorasu The thing is. If a movie fails in delivering it's message then the movie itself is a fail. Actually...Ed Wood's intended messages in his films were pretty obvious. It's just his lack of talent or budget (or both) made his films either laughable or incoherent.

Also, not all deep films that go as planned are obvious or easy to dissect. Gattaca....great example. Another great deep film is Syriana.

Ed Wood is worthy of a laugh. Not worthy of a 20 page analytical paper.

  • I didn't make a 20 page analytical paper, I made a passing comment as to what this might mean.

  • @Naikorasu Well I was exaggerating. There are a million ed wood fanboys that over analyze ed wood movies and claim that he is a genius. Know what? Maybe he is. But it doesnt change the fact that his movies are one of the most incoherent crap ever made. He's pretty much Uwe Boll's level.

However, the fact that so many film makers have made fantastic films with less of a budget than ed wood doesnt speak well for his talent

  • I'm with Naikorasu. OK, the film is cheap and laughable, that doesn't mean it's below being analyzed seriously. It may not be about what Ed meant to convey, but what he DID convey. This speech is fertile ground for Freudians, despite it's lack of poetic refinement. And the way this film really touches a nerve in the gay and transexual communities says something for it. These people, in general, are no more stupid than average, and this film is ADMIRED in those circles. There is much to discuss.

  • @Steve99jp66 Ummm...not really. You want to see a film that REALLY touches a nerve in the gay/trans community? Watch Brokeback Mountain or The Crying Game. These movies are fantastic and actually manage to convey something meaningful coherently. If there is anything to be analyzed from Ed Wood, it's how it failed to really say anything and why. That is about it. Again, compare this film to Brokenback mountain or the Crying game, then you'll see how insignificant and bad this movie is

  • I didn't say it was great art; BBM & TCG are certainly better films. But GOG is well liked in the gay & TS communities, despite what you say.

This film CAN be analyzed and deconstructed. For example, a TS film opening with a child's fable? THAT MEANS SOMETHING! (Don't ask what, it should be obvious). A TS story being 'guided' by dark forces? Again, Freud could have a field day. A 50s TS film with 'horror' undertones? I'd say that says something about being TS in a very conservative society.

  • @skarules111

Yea this dialog wasn't really the best hahaha!

  • @twb176 He does. This is kind of remarkable compared to the way these lines were kind of mocked in Burton's film. I don't think they were making fun, but it would have been good to play these lines straighter.

  • excelente.

  • I really cannot divine any sort of sense from this... But it doesn't detract from the fact that Lugosi is fantastically electric.

  • god bela lugosi is real scary in than movie

  • I thought he says PULL THE STRING after this?

  • no,he says that about 5 minutes into the movie

  • You know lugosi was not a bad actor but he was in horrible movies.

  • PULL THE STRING!!!!!!!!!!

  • John Charles Thomas:"And always on the front door mat,

    A most ferocious Dragon sat,

It made such an awful shrieking noise

So all you little girls and boys...

Beware, take care," -That's the doorstep part. The only version of this song on You Tube is WEAK. The original was quite good.

  • The Green Eyed Dragon with the 13 tails was written in 1926 and sung on the radio By John Charles Thomas in the 30s. I've heard it. It's amusing. The Thomas version is not available on You Tube. His other stuff is. "Beware, take care of the green-eyed dragon with the 13 tails. He'll feed with greed on little boys, puppy dogs, and big fat snails. Then off to his lair each child he'd drag and each of his 13 tails he'd wag. Beware, take care, and creep up on tip toes."

  • bewhäääär

  • eeeeeeeeeeeh, am i the only one who thought that sounded retarded

  • Fuckin /win

  • Most random movie scene of all time.

  • this will make a very nice ringtone

  • p-....p-.....PULL THE STRING!!!!

  • that makes no sence lol, "beware of the big green dragon that sits your doorstep, he eats little boys" wtf? lol... you gotta hand it to ed wood, he trys hard and doesn't give a rats ass what people thinks lol

  • @sikokiller12 he said toaster not doorstep

  • puppy dog tails! big fat snails??? WTF? LMFAO!

  • From An old Nursery Rhyme about what are little boys are made.?

Boys are made Slugs and snails & Puppy Tails,Girls are made Sugar & spice and all things nice

  • The moral of this story is to never become a cross-dresser, or else Bela Lugosi will fade in and speak nonsensical stanzas to you.

    Also stock footage of bulls.

  • Comment removed

  • @Isaacian27 Maybe then I *should* crossdress then! :P

  • @Isaacian27 Maybe I *should* crossdress then! :P

  • @Isaacian27 If that's the case, I gotta start crossdressing! Damn that would be awesome!

  • Damn that poor old dude must have

been buzzed up with opium. Wood

    turned Lugosi into the laughingstock

of the movie business. Can't your hear

the directors behind his back: "Hey,

    they need a hunchback dog-catcher

over at Paramount." "Go get Lugosi,

he'll do it for $10 if he gets to wear

    his cape!"

  • BRAVO!

  • a timeless classic...

    *BEVARE!!*

  • Love love love love love love love love. <3

  • DRUGS!

  • pure hungarian vampire from Transylvania

  • The Green Dragon scares the shit out of me!

  • This is pure genius.

  • Please green dragon go away!

  • I haven't been lucky enough to see the whole film but this scene's use of lighting and tone seems the best out of all the clips of Glen or Glenda? I've seen. What is clear is that Ed Wood struggled with gender identity issues throughout life and his decision to create and base the film on his own experiences of transvestism was incredibly brave, particularly in the 1950s.

  • bevaare! xD

  • Ez nagyon ijesztő!!!

    ---

    That's very scary!!!

  • AWESOMEEE!!!!!!

  • wheres pull the string?

  • Pull the string is earlier in the film.

  • this is classic

  • Beware the Jabberwock my son!

  • Brilliant

  • PUPPY DOG TAILS

  • he eats little boys! =D

  • He could hold the attention of the audience regardless of the film quality.

  • I really don't understand what does "a big green dragon", puppy dog tails and big fat snails have anything to do with the main plot.

Either way, Lugosi's the film's saving grace.

  • What are little boys made of?

  • awesome, Bela.

  • big fat snails LOL! medium snails are no good?

  • Well, for one thing, this IS the original Transylvanian Dracula for us..

What is most impressive about this is that, within such a fractured movie, this performance stands out even though from what I've heard,Lugosi was improvising...

a testimony to the genius in this man... those eyes tell so many stories...not just the mess that is Glen of Glenda, but also the story of Lugosi, a man who knew the darkside all too well..and portrayed it in a genius manner

  • epic.

  • He looks like teethless here. Maybe it's due to his old age.

  • He was drug addicted..probably he had no much teeth...

  • look at his pictures before talking shit

Bela never showed his teeth not even in 1931's Dracula

    best regards,

    TARANTULO

  • Comment removed

  • You are a very polite person! In any case I did'nt say certainly, I said probably. And then, if he had not teeth yet in '31...probably it's 'cause he was drug addicted since '31 ahahah!!!

    Best regards

  • I just can't stop looking at this clip. His innunciation of each word is poetic and lyrical.

    Oh, and bevare.

    Take care.

  • No no, it's not beware...it's bevare!! BEVARE!!!

  • haha bevare!! -take care!

  • Ed Wood's movies are memorable for both the good and bad. Sure he's "infamous" for making a steady chain of "bad" (but hillarious) movies, but none of them are in the IMDB bottom 100. Now THOSE movies like "Manos: Hands of Fate", almost all the MST3K alumni and Gigli are a REAL pain to watch!

  • I just love his face at the end when he says the last BEWARE...

    Epic!

  • he eats little boys LMAO

  • AWESOME! Beware...

  • The movie is a mess, but Lugosi is the film's saving grace!

  • this 33 seconds actually made my cry

    what a genius, I can't believe it
