This is the first year I got into football, from 2000 onwards I've been devout ever since, however I don't recall this year too well. this was the last season before Janikowski came out of college... and it's so weird to see a right-footed kicker in the Silver and Black! My experience has basically only been with the left-footed Seabass.
Rich Gannon was elusive! Look at that crazy mobility! It doesn't show up on the stat sheet in terms of rushing yards, but it is absolutely beautiful to watch! I wish Carson Palmer was that elusive. I don't even think that Jason Campbell has that kind of mobility. Seriously, that's Michael Vick like, except Gannon wasn't as fast.
I agree. If you watch that last TD play, Gannon did soooo many things MAKE that play. One of the finest individual efforts I've ever seen,by a QB who used his legs to set up that pass.. An amazing display.
@raiders247online Gannon is prime example of how overrated Al Davis the football man is/was. He never preferred Gannon...not a big enough arm. But Gannon had intangibles off the board. A LEADER, the hardest worker, someone willing to challenge his teammates...they fell in line with him because he made it known that the b/s the Raiders did wouldn't be tolerated. Gruden was an awesome coach, but yeah...we wouldn't have had the success we had w/o Gannon under center.
@raiders247online It really was a fine individual effort. Rich Gannon was my favorite Raider when I was a kid and it pains me that I only have vague recollections of his play. Thankfully, your videos supplement my long-gone memories.
The most impressive part about Gannon's athleticism and mobility out of the pocket was his age! The dude was 34 here, and he continued being elusive well into his late thirties. His rushing TD in the 2002 AFC Championship game against the Titans sealed the deal!
If Timmy had been quicker it would have been a td. Crockett sucks..and to that guy beneath me that said Gabon would bee our couch....ah..no!!!! I like Gannon butt hue Jackson is our guy
See! THIS is football! Did you all see how Tim Brown caught that pass in the 5 yard line and didn't give a massive show boat(which he was entitled to)? New players need to take a lesson or two from old NFL.
Microcosm of that team though...Gannon had to overcome what, four drops on the drive. Plus, if Crockett makes that EASY CATCH, Gannon doesn't injure his shoulder on the ensuing TD pass...which led to his only real bad game of the '99 season against the Dolphins at home the following week. That '99 team...Gruden and Gannon had to impose its will on those Raiders who were still on Al Davis scholarship and it took that epic game at KC for them to really get with it. They took off from there...
Rich Gannon was absolutely flawless on that drive. Also, Tim Brown needs to be in the Hall of Fame. That guy was INSANE, even in his old age... So sure handed.... such good running after the catch.
Raiders!!! We got beat by the eventual Superbowl Champ in the playoffs from 2000-2002. Ravens, Pats, and Buccs. Raiders may have been the dynasty instead of the Patriots.
Gannon was a damn good QB for the Raiders. It's too bad that fat fuck Siragusa jumped on him in the AFC Championship & fucked him up for the rest of the game - Raiders could've won that game with Gannon (or at least a capable backup QB, which they didn't have) in there.
To continue my remarks about Gannon, I truly believe that if he had stayed healthy and Gruden remained our coach, the Raiders WOULD have one at least one Super Bowl. Gannon may not have been great before he came to the Raiders but he became GREAT in the Silver and Black and I would put him up there with Elway, Marino, Kelly, Staubach and others. What do all these QBs have in common? They all spent their entire career with one team. Imagine what Gannon could've done!!! Thank you Rich. U R GREAT!
As a Raider fan for over 40 years I can truly say Rich Gannon was one of the greatest QBs that has ever worn the Silver and Black. The Snake of course is the All-Time favorite Raider QB and no one can ever doubt the greatness of Jim Plunkett, both of whom are NOT in the Hall Of Fame simply because of the haters. There's even one guy who supposedly claims he's on the committee that votes on who gets in and who doesn't and he sez he will NEVER vote for "The Snake" as long as he's alive. Asshole!!!
Since I am here, and you Raider fans have such a great memory. Anybody remember in 2000 when the Raiders were winning 21-3 @ three rivers at halftime and blew the lead....
RIP--Eric Turner @ 8:10----I wish you young Raider fans understood that the Raiders didn't just show up on the scene when you where a "8 years old etc..etc.." This is a storied franchise..and it takes time and sometimes pain to get back to the top. Show some freagin balls and weather the storm, and quit hatin' on Al Davis. If it wasn't for his concept of what he felt the Raiders should look/be like you wouldn't know what to do with yourself. Respect the OG-RAIDERS---youngsta's.
yes indeed the good old days of the raiders, campbell is doing great at quarterback now but the defense sucks and tom cable is not that great of a coach
@sidprogrammer your willing to say campbell is good but defense sucks ... ha i think you need to watch the games again ... 6th rated defense .... you must not be a true raider fan
@sidprogrammer What say you now Sid? Cable is gone and we just signed Woodson to coach up the secondary. Complete overhaul of the D and retaining Seymour is a huge step to the dominating defense we had back then.
Ohhh man sweet memories! I remember this was Halloween weekend and I was eight years old and the game was blacked out so I had to watch w/e cbs game was showing JUST for the Raider highlights. This also reminds me of how much I love Tim Brown...I almost cried when I didn't see his name on the first ballot H.O.F. Still good memories!
@KingRaj91 I'm a Huge Raiders fan as well and I remember seeing this game. It was a great comeback. Rich Gannon was the best quarterback the Raiders ever had since Ken Stabler. That game was black out in your area back then? What happened they didn't sell out that game?
This video makes me want Grads to start over Campbell. His comparisons to Rich Gannon are there... The way he throws, the ability to avoid sacks and the fire he gave the offense.
I hope he gets healthy and can stay healthy, however with the current o-line I dont see that happening.
Typical Raiders though up until that point. If Crockett catches that ball, Gannon doesn't have to make another play...which caused a separated shoulder. The next week, he throws 4 INT's in a tough loss to Miami (only bad game of 1999) and that is the difference between winning the AFC West and being 8-8 that year. It's amazing just how much Gruden was able to change things considering that he didn't get to change the roster all that much. Too many 'scholarship' players
the reason i became a raider fan in the first place gannon and tim brown. and this is before i got into football

WOW! Rich Gannon should have taken Brady's spot in Super Bowl 46. That many dropped passes and he still led them down the field. HAHAHA!

Gotta love Gruden's response after the Zach Crokett drop, but hey if he caught it Gannon would've been denied that excellent play.
