  • LOL Gangland is playing in the background! :P

  • Your vid is popular on Syria

  • So we meet again, 240p

  • can u buy this wood at homedepo?

  • what wood did you use?

  • I like this video and I want to make a recurve bow but I wanted to ask what the dimensions are for the handle and anything else that I need to know to measure up the board.

  • great vid. I love the urinary track stuff playing on the radio. LOL

  • I see that you use a piece of wood 3/4 inch thick 64 inch long but how wide is the initial piece you started with.

    thanks jr

  • Awesome hat.

  • gangland in the bg?

  • how wide did you make the handle?

  • @max00speed About an 1 1/4 "

  • Wish I knew what your measurements were for the handle and such.

  • @oldschooldude2 yea same here it was kind of confusing not knowing what they were and where they were

  • i live in australia and i cant get these northern hemisphere woods like oak and ash etc.. do you know of any australian woods i could use that would work good?

  • @loadedClownZ Sorry I really don't. Just try to find a hardwood that's fiborous.

  • @loadedClownZ Australia huh? Have you tried Ironwood?

  • @TimusOminere no, but i do know of some good australian bow woods now. ironbark is common in my area so i should be able to get it. is it good?

  • @loadedClownZ I think it's in the oak family so it should be pretty sturdy, if you do try it let me know how it turns out :)

  • @TimusOminere alright but with the australian ironwood species its hard to find a straight grain but if i find a good board i'll make one

  • @loadedClownZ I know what you mean, finding straight grain yew here in Britain can be a right run around too!

  • @TimusOminere at least you have access to yew. look up 'medicinebow'. they sell straight grain yew staves but i think they only have pacific yew but pacific yew is still very good.

  • @loadedClownZ I'm making a spotty gum bow at the moment

  • @TheCatcherOfDeath spotted gum you mean. tell me how it goes, i've heard good things from that wood

  • @loadedClownZ I know it as spotty gum but same shit different smell any way yer ill let you know how it go's i will not be working on it until march when the wood has seasoned i might make the my first vid/vids for youtube (i need to pick up a video camera) oh and ironwood ( not ironbark ) is meant to be good same with juniper, oak, ceder, my grand father said to me that Brisbane wattle is what they used as kids umm but any hardwood is good

  • @TheCatcherOfDeath their is a species common enough here in nsw called ironbark because the bark is very hard but i dont know if its a type of ironwood, yeah queensland wattle trees are known as australian acacia and acacia is also found in africa which is what the african used and its very good bow wood but what do you think about spotted gum, is it good for a d-shaped bow which i what i want to make?

  • @loadedClownZ i know what ironbark is its common enough up here this will be my second bow the first bow i was making was out of blue gum i was half way done with the second lim of the stave when it snaped clean off about 5" from the handle so i dont know if spotted gum will be good my grandfather seid it has real long grain or fibers something like that ill make a vid of me makiing it im all so going to make a arrow out of spotted gum i might ty white ceder i nkow wear there is some

  • @TheCatcherOfDeath yeah, i made a muck around bow from an old sydney blue gum floorboard and lets just say i will never use blue gum again, i've heard from my neighbour who is a retired bowyer that spotted gum is our equivalent to hickory, he told me its good but i really want to make an english longbow so i dont know if its good for that, silver ash is good, its a type of eucalyptus, dont make gum arrows, just buy pine dowel rods from bunnings, pine makes good arrows

  • @loadedClownZ i will buy dowel to make arrows but im going to make the gum one just to see if the bow is good i will not really be shooting at a target with it

  • @TheCatcherOfDeath okay, you didnt tell me, is ironbark an ironwood or if its not what is?

  • @loadedClownZ ok sorry no ironbark is is not a ironwood, ironbark is a member of the eucalyptus family and ironwood is in the oak family so i was tolled by my grandfather i believe him he use to cut trees down for railway sleepers but have a look at Wikipedia yes i know its not the best info but its good does that halp you?

  • @TheCatcherOfDeath thanks bro

  • I love it. "Gang Land" is playing in the background. BTW how is the grain so posed to go?

  • @MTICadet2010 ahahaha i heard that too. good stuff

  • If I were wanting to make a full bow as well as a JR one so me and my little brother could both shoot, what alterations if any should I make to the design?

  • what is the wood

  • What kind of wood do you use ??

  • Thanks for the great videos. Really well done and very informative.

  • @ceris42 Thank you.

  • GO CHIEFS! Good to see a fellow fan on yt

  • Sir, could you please tell me the measurements of the board?

  • @kyoshintama Sorry that video was taken 2 years ago. I don't remember exactly. I think it was 62" long, and 2" wide.

  • @ArcherOut thank you, and yeah, great tute =)

  • @kyoshintama and how thick should I pick the board, sir?

  • wayyyy better than that dumb eHow bitch thumbs up to agree

  • what is the width of the board

  • thank bro for share...very2 usefull

  • how long is your bow?

  • chalk line might help you there with that centerline pal? nice video series!

  • what size of plank do you have there?

  • lemme get this right: so the fewer grain thingys u have on the ends of your board the softer the wood is? because im only 14 so i would need slightly softer wood for a lower poundage...

  • how long do you think that making a bow like this would take?

  • @GoStobe Just depends on your experience. This took me 2 days.

  • thank you for such a detailed video set.

  • @310mark13 Glad you enjoyed them.

  • hey man i want to build my own bow at the cottage this summer. anything specificly that you think is best for me to use (i.e woods, strings, length) anything will help me im lost on this one

  • i have tons of questions. first let me tell you want i want to do i want to make a scale bow from avatar that the navi use. from what i found its a long bow. so how would i make a replica longbow like the chiefs. next arows pretty self explainatory except feathers and broad heads then how to make one to fit me and be functional any help ?

  • To the guy who made this. Thanks! I've been reading a ton about how to do all this, but its great to just see some if it in action! Really helps to clarify what I've been reading. Thanks again!

  • @rsberrey Thank you. Glad it helped.

  • OMG*

  • 私は弓を作るのが好きなので、あなたの様な作り方を詳しく教えてくれるビデオは大変勉強になります。英語は良く分かりませんが見ているだけで分かりますし。

I like to make a bow . that video good to study ! Thank you.

    この英語通じるといいな

  • what fiber glass do you use to make a bow?

i made a bow but it snapped in half when i tryd to string it.... i think its becouse i did not have fiber glass to give it more flexiblity can you tell me what fiber glass i should use?

  • @MrOsh106 I don't use fiberglass much anymore. Just selfbow. The stuff I've used is 1/8 x 2 " x 6' fiberglass. I got it from my local bow supply store, but I don't use it really, so I'm not much help.

  • what fiber glass do you use to make a bow?

  • what are you using for string and what kinfd of wood

  • would it be possible too make one outta oak or any type of tree found in the piedmont reigon of north carolina? im tryin to make one without machinery.

  • Have you ever killed anything with your bow?

  • @GreenKid24 Yes.

  • @ArcherOut is it accurate enought to shoot squirrels?

  • @TNCamoHunter Sure thing, if you practice enough.

  • Da li mozas da mi kazes od cega pravis tetivu na luku, ako nije tajna, i ako pravis za prodaju kolika je cena? HVALA

  • @gale95kg Sorry, I only speak English. Can't read your comment.

  • @ArcherOut i think gale95kg is speaking croatian

  • anybody interested in this should buy or check out the "The Bowyer's Bible" series of books... theyre amazing

  • great vid sir! its VERY helpfull. ive been trying to make a bow for aes n couldnt fiure it out. tottaly cool

  • @wolflilania Thanks.

  • Wish I could have seen ur layout better.

  • where would the arrow rest be

  • you talk to much.

  • @jonysgal You type too little, and watch too much youtube. Have a nice day.

  • i have a question can use pine wood? or scrap wood from a junk yard?

  • what are the mesurements of the board?

  • i make mine outta osage trees their alot more durable if you make the bow strait from the tree and i think they look better but thats just my opinion do you sell your bows?

  • he's watching Gangland on the history channel, hahaha

  • About how much money does this cost to make?

  • What about oak

  • @GHSTTHERENEGADE Oak is ok, but you have to know how to tiller them correctly. It's a little tricky.

  • @ArcherOut I see well I do not have the tiller at all. I have no idea on what to do. I also seem to notice that the video lacks some aspects like the marking of the handle and a few other parts in your other videos.

  • @GHSTTHERENEGADE Sorry, but the videos are suppose to be just a general "how to". The videos would be much longer if I included exactly every step it takes. Chris

  • is this a 2x4 or 1x4

  • Is gangland playing in the background?

  • for how much

  • were did u get your wood from

  • @rednck100 A local hardwood store.

  • Thanks Dude! I'm gonna read up a bit more, grab some hickory and maybe use that hickory as a backing. I think it'll turn out pretty nice with the grain popped using dyes/sanding methods.

  • Is flamed or curly maple okay, or does it have to be a solid straight grain?

  • @DarthNako For sure, solid straight grain.

  • I just eyeball it.

  • Do you use a french curve for the arches, or do you just "eyeball" it?

  • Hi, can i use pine? Is it strong enough?

  • @eunicetayyb Sorry, but pine is way too soft. Stick to your hard woods, like hickory.

  • Traditional archery is the best thing ever

  • @smartman136, please do not do use willow, because its to wet, (waterside tree) and then is not very good at holding on the pressure. but if you let it dry long enough you might be able to make a bow out of it. you might be the first 1 who will ever make a shooting bow of it!! go try it!!

  • What do u think about willow branches?

  • @smartman136 Sorry, but I've never heard anyone make a bow out of that. My grandpa just use to whip me with those. Thanks,

  • @ArcherOut WHAT!?! harsh dude

  • Oak and Maple are what we use

  • i have woodshop this year and i really want to make a bow any advice?

  • @bunny153649 Be patient.

  • i made a bow befor it took me 45 min...with a branch, long stems, and fishing strings...it was decent, it shot bout 50-60 yards

  • hey i'm interested in starting to mess around with this stuff i was just wondering where do you get your staves at?

  • i found a REALY nice piece of wood in my woods a few days ago, the wood is very rich wood with very nice flexibility, although the draw aint aint to much it can propably shoot an arrow pretty far, it also has this little thick twig right in the middle of it so i can put the arrow on there and its bent just right so the rope will not be dead center like normal where the arrow goes slightly to one side, here it will lay just right,

  • thanks a lot for this tutorial i'm going to have

  • hey can you help me get started i only have oak

  • i also have been trying to make a bow but it breaks every time, what should i do?

  • Thanks for the information concerning selecting the wood. Very good explanation of grain. I did not know about that.

  • why did you mark along the thin side of the board (near the end of the video)? Did you use a band saw and cut two pieces?

  • #LOL

  • @thankyougodyay How was this video funny? lmao.

  • is that gangland in the background?

  • @scarycaldren That IS gangland. I think I saw that episode too.

  • what is ur email adress to comunicate with u because i would like to know how to make they 2 string attachers to the bow/how to attach the string to the bow

  • do you know where i buy that hickory wood??

  • can I make the bow from a plum tree?

    Is hazel good for bows?

  • Hi, im really interested in making my own bow, but I still have a lot of questions in it.

Could you give me any way of getting contact with you? I beg you please for help. Thank you for your videos

  • @falcozz I'm pretty loaded up with orders right now, but I can give you a few pointers if you want. Just contact me through my website e-mail. Thanks, Chris

  • @falcozz some of my questions where answered by poorfolksbows com no where near as pretty as archerouts bows but it does answer some questions and dumbs it down to where i understand it and i look at this vid and see things a little clearer

  • what would you recommend oak or maple ? its all i can find.

btw great vids thanks for all the info

  • @mpkennedy08 , Thanks and I would recommend maple for your first bow. Find one with as tight of grain as you have. Thanks.

  • @ArcherOut shit i already started using red oak. o well .

  • @mpkennedy08 oak not so good..elm and mulberry being much better, maple great bow too

  • fail at 2:18 lol great vid

  • can you make a bow out of any wood?

  • no, some woods are too soft.

  • Danke

  • i can't find any good wood :-( i'm from Belgium :-(

  • 5:18 its says cocaine and crack lol

  • OK i just went through all of the videos and I'm a bit confused here. Where do you start making the normal longbow and not the re curve?

  • type in "makeing a LONGBOW' or click on the makers icon.

  • I mean like a flat long bow

  • I just finished watching this video and if i were to make a long bow instead of a recurve would i do everything the same but not make the handle dip in the middle?

  • thanks

  • i'm currently making a bow but does the string have to be half as long as the bow?

  • oh no its about 3 inches shorter

  • where can u find yew nowdays??

  • Pacific Northwest. It's tough to find sometimes.

  • @ArcherOut I just pulled out a big yew in my yard, there are to staves about 6 feet long very straight would they work?

  • @karmapaintball HELL YES.

  • red oak.and oak really dont make good bows,.there too stiff.yew osage maple.mulberry.black locust,hickory.elm.great bow woods

  • Very much, no. It needs to be thoroughly dried. Doing it under a camp fire would make it too britle, and if you were able to do that, I'm sure the indians and the ancients would have done it that way.

  • hey i just cut down a 8 foot straight crepe myrtle branch and i skined it and carved it now im drying it would it work or is teh wood shit thansk for posting

  • I'm not real sure of what kind of wood that is, so I couldn't give you the right answer. Your gonna have to tiller that piece of wood after it's dried, which is several months. The ancients dried their wood for several years, before they made bows out of it. Now days, we kiln dry them.

  • lol the cops in the background

  • how wide is the board you are working with?

  • I think he said 3/4 inches

  • Thanks for the video...but...my broncos whooped yalls ass sunday

  • you all's*

  • In kansas its ya'll

  • you alls does'nt make sense.

  • with what kind of wood can i make it help me please

  • hey im making a crossbow.... but im going to be using a bow style for the limbs. any help for me(it isnt going to be a huge crossbow

  • Only advice I think I could give you is use fiberglass to back yours. As short as the limbs will be, it's going to be pretty difficult to keep it from breaking. Chris

  • Question about the handle, i am building a hickory bow for a woods class in school. I know you found the center of the board which is 32 inches. How big did you make your handle? you dont really say the measurement on it. it looks like 3 inches on each side, but please respond

    Steven

  • Hey buddy. Thanks for watching the video. You were paying good attention obviously. I didn't say. There is no rule. Just use your own hand. If you have big hands like me, it's about 5 1/2 to 6 ". Then just whatever it is, divide it in half, and go from one side of the center line to the other side of the center line. Good luck on your project. Chris

  • Thanks a lot, im using all your videos to make it also. Im not planning on using it for hunting, just to make it look good. When i get it done, ill comment to let you know how it when, thanks again

    Steven

  • Another question, how wide is your handle?

    Steven

  • Width is about 1 1/4 inch, maybe a little more than that. Thickness is about 1 3/4 inch. It just varies. If its a real heavy bow, it needs to be thicker. If its a light bow, don't worry about it.

  • Alright, thanks a lot man

    Steven

  • im confused on how you did the lay out of the handle.. did you measure 3 inches on each side of the 32 to make the full handle? or more? what kind of drawl weight are we talkin about? and does it differ with other types of wood?

  • No, you just find the center. Measure out half the distance of your handle, on both sides f the center line. Draw weight is up to you... .how much you want to tiller it. Yes, wood does make a difference. Some will be thinner at the same draw weight than others. Chris

  • i made a red oak bow at 60 lb,and that sucker broke in 2 weeks of use.

  • where can i buy a good staff? i am very limited on money, so i cannot really order anything really expensive off the internet. If you know of anywhere i can get some good staff making wood from like a hardware store or anything, please reply. Much respect, 13KT13

  • Do you mean stave or staff (as in walking staff)?

  • sorry for my typo, i ment stave.

  • Open your phonebook and look for specialty wood stores. Most cities have them. People that make fine wood working by wood from there. Wood for a bow really isn't that expensive. Just find a hard wood that's good and fiberous with a fairly low moisture content (between 4 and 10%). Your salesman there can tell you what % is in his wood.

  • im not really old enough to do that lol.

  • youre not old enough to buy a piece of wood? there's no age limit on wood you know lol

  • @Fearyourgovernment i realize that, but i was only looking for a store such as a hardware store, etc. or some place that is easily accesible. I have been trying for a long time to make them out of normal tree branches, etcedera but i found this very hard to do. so i decided that i might try a more modern approach, such as that provided in this series of videos. so again, not to sound rude, but does anyone know where i can get a good stave for making a bow like this?

  • I see... well almost any hardware store or lumber yard would have what youre looking for.. in my honest opinion though, I think it's a little simpler to
